I was gifted a Quest 2 a while back but refuse to make a Facebook account so it's been unusable so far. I periodically started checking the app when Meta announced that you wouldn't need a Facebook account this month and today I was able to create a Meta account. I'm excited to finally get to play this thing!

So they just changed their name and suddenly you're ok with signing up?

Same company, same soulless, exploitative, globalist corporatism but hey, I guess that rebrand did wonders.

I had some old burner fake account I made years back for something.

I kept waiting for the day when they demanded I prove my identity and shut my account down.

Before you had to have a Facebook profile verified with a government issued id. Now you only need an email. It's not even close to the same thing.

An email account is a lot better than government ID, but in Australia at least if they ask for your mobile that is connected to your government ID anyway.

Okay, I'll assume you're not just trolling @VlaudTheImpaler, please let me know what billion dollar entertainment company isn't "soulless, exploitative, globalist".
Don't take it too hard mate. It's just amusing since you seemed to be taking a stand on making a Facebook account before but are just fine with Meta when, as it's been pointed out, it's the same thing. You are still supporting the platform and are creating avenues for them to hook you into giving them the same info you didn't want to in the beginning. It's always sad to see someone stand strong and then cave.

I wish people would just be honest and say that they want to play games more than taking a moral stand and admit they finally got you. I'd respect that more because making flimsy excuses could cause others who are trying to hold fast to cave in as well thinking they still have some moral ground to stand on.

Realistically, most people only have so much strength and energy to dedicate to taking a moral stand on certain things, especially if those things are more insidious and not so in your face like a lot of moral/spiritual issues people face. So they do what they can do as to stay sane. For instance, there are things I take a stand on in one area where it might make me look like a hypocrite in other similar areas I don't. I just don't dance around it.

In these recent clown years I do tend to take more of a stand on a lot more things, media in particular. It was hard at first but as I found that I was able to live just fine without certain things I'm actually much happier and feel way better about my life.

I was never making a moral stand, I just wasn't giving over digital copies of government documents to play a game. I wouldn't do it for any video game regardless of the company.

I don't really care what companies do tbh. But if people want to take a victory lap, go for it.
