Thread: PS6 leaks suggest 8K @60 FPS and 100% AMD

The latest comes from YouTuber Moore's Law Is Dead, a reliable tipster who previously leaked details about Sony's long-rumored PS5 Pro with beefed-up internals. In a recent video, Moore's Law is Dead claimed to know with "100%" certainty that Sony will continue its partnership with AMD to power the PS6 and PS5 Pro. The chip will boast a speculated 4K at 120fps and 8K at 60fps gaming experience, sources said.
Adding credibility to this rumor is another report from YouTuber RedGamingTech, who claimed Sony wasn't even considering any vendors other than AMD to power its next-gen consoles. The PS4 and PS5 each packed the AMD Jaguar and Zen 2, respectively. Before the PS5's 2020 release, RedGaming Tech said, Sony discussed making the switch to other chip vendors, the most notable of these being Nvidia. However, the company ultimately decided to stick with AMD for several reasons, including ease of backward compatibility and an already dedicated custom solutions team
And developers will release games at 1440 P at 30 FPS.

4K 120fps to 8K 60fps doesn't make any sense.

8K is Quadruple 4K, not twice, so if it can push 120fps at 4K it would only be able to manage 30fps at 8K.

This is the same dumb-arsery that means people think 4K is only twice 1080p, and not understand why ultra high definition is so much more demanding than just high def.

Not sure what is more wortrhless the rumor or that Toms Hardware "article" on it. Literally NO DETAILS. Just "yea there will be a next PS console and it will have better performance that the current PS"

Fucking DUH!!

Also no one would be talking in such stupid terms as "4K at 120fps and 8K at 60fps gaming experience" at this point in development. Yes you would have targets on what it could be capable of (like how the PS5 is capable of 8k!) At this point they are likely talking with AMD about what is on their roadmap and where they would like to start a bespoke variant of the CPU/GPU. Maybe some rough performance targets and memory size.... but even that will alter greatly over the next few years as the markets changes.

For reference, when I first started working on the PS5 (2018 I think) we were still targeting an 8+TF performance target. Then when we saw MS was targeting 12TF we had to find ways to boost performance and ended up increasing the clock speed and were able to get it up to 10.28TF.

The next gen will be more about ray tracing/path tracing and a full movement to it, not about pushing resolution. We'll see even more use of ML upscale like FSR to achieve resolution needs.

Hopefully.4K is already a pointless endeavour, and is just used to make the screen an unreadable cluttered mess while performance dies on it's arse.

Anything above 1440p is a luxury devs should only dip into once everything else works flawlessly, and can be utilised without hurting performance.

and when final fantasy vii part 3 launchs on ps6 this little bitch will be only capable of running the game at 576p/60fps 1080p/30fps maximun

Ill add this. When talking "4K at 120fps and 8K at 60fps" all you are considering is the A/V output protocol. So in this case, it just means HDMI 2.1 or better. So again its a fucking duh kinda thing as the PS5 already had HDMI 2.1.

I honestly doubt it will be more powerful than a 14900k/4090 combo even if it releases in 2026 or 2027, so I'm calling BS on this one.

Maybe it will upscale to 8K at 60 FPS from a base resolution closer to 1440p, but certainly not anywhere near native resolution.

Nobody has an 8k TV. That would be a total waste of resources

My dad does but I get it, there is probably less than 1% of all TVs at home in Europe and North America which are 8k. I guess the idea could be supersampling, future proofing, that kind of thing. But it WILL NOT be on a budget home entertainment system, definitely not next gen. Maybe in the 11th gen or at best 10th gen refresh for some very specific games or apps but unless something dramatic changes, like complete AI takeover (AI generated frames, AI graphics etc.), I don't see it happening.

I'm playing at 2k and going back to 1080p is a huge step down in quality. I wish that 4k would become a new standard in about 5 years, 1080p is just not there anymore.

And xbox might have intel inside apparently.

I sure hope so for my portfolio's sake lol plus it would make an interesting comparison

Hopefully AMD or Sony will come up with a tech that will be as good as DLSS from Nvidia. FSR is destroying image quality to the point that the FSR artefacts are even visible in shitty low bitrate YouTube videos.

Also, physics. Please go all out on physics.

Sony already has a their own (highly) customized version of FSR. Its what they use on the PS Now streaming. We were working on it to support PS5 streaming to (more consistently) get 4k visuals.

This is so dumb. Not only does that not sound impressive, but also:

PS5 after all these years has no meaningful exclusive that makes use of the new power, it's all outdated gameplay that could run on past-gen consoles just as well. Where's all the nextgen-games? All the power just is wasted on resolution and framerate. Fuck that shit.

PS5 will be remembered in history for being a placeholder for PS6.

I think he is not a reliable tipster. He said the PS5 Pro would release last year but they instead put out the PS5 Slim and PlayStation Portal, a lame overpriced console accessory that no one asked for. Just like when people thought Nintendo would launch a Switch Pro but it was the Switch OLED.

Also, the PS6 is 3 to 4 years away from launching so I doubt anyone knows anything concrete until Sony themselves start sending out dev kits. And even then what really matters are the games, which we probably won't see any truly next-gen experiences until 2 to 3 years into the PS6's lifecycle.

Hasn't it been said that this supposed leaker is a fraud and not reliable? If so, why bother with anything they say? Even so, the supposed leaked stuff is stuff that would be basic knowledge based upon past system advancements.

And those not excited for a PS6? Of course you shouldn't be. There is fuck all for software at this point, so I'd be worried about people who *are* excited for a system with no games currently announced.

Just enjoy what we have now and the upcoming releases and don't dwell on stuff that doesn't matter in the long run.

That's the problem: There is nothing to enjoy now in terms of games tailor-made for PS5 or Xbox Series X.

At this point with how long game dev takes, you're better advised to skip one hardware generation each time. PS4 -> PS6 -> PS8 etc.. Only then you'll have meaningful software to experience a noticeable jump in ambition.

Honestly all this "power" talk is boring. Look at this shitty generation where like 95% of the games have been held back by last gen and the other 5% barely have taken advantage of the hardware.

remember Sonys talk of we believe in generations lol

with modern consoles basically being pc's all games now are scalable and the ps6 will be hampered by the ps5 user base being so large when the ps6 arrives. sony will not want to loose all the money from previous gen sales. we prob only be getting full true this gen games in the final year or two of this gen.

8K support and 8K TVs are just dumb. 4K adoption is still underway, and there's literally nothing cool about 8K. All the best TVs are optimizing picture quality at 4K and even bringing AI upscaling on-demand to the market. I'll buy a 4K OLED with AI upscaling way the hell before I'll even think about 8K.

This is the same talk they had about 4k 120fps for this generation. Sure a few games might take advantage of it, but its going to be pushing low graphic levels.

The games that would take advantage of it would be basic at best, lots of features cut out of the game graphics wise.look at how ray tracing was hyped for this gen and it's a very basic form of it and they have to drop resoloution and alsorts to achieve it at decent levels, mostly dropped FPS for it to

Y
8K??
Im still using a 1080p TV 🤣
We need more good games not higher res screens , still feel Im not missing anything not having a current gen consoles

You need an intervention lol

Even at 1440p, the jump in clarity and detail is pretty big. 1080p is very smeary. Once you upgrade, you wouldn't want to go back tbh.
