PlayStation 5 has shipped 17.2 million units worldwide and PlayStation 4 has shipped 116.8 million units, Sony announced in its financial results for the three months ended December 31, 2021.
A total of 3.9 million PlayStation 5 units and 200,000 PlayStation 4 units were shipped during the three months ended December 31, 2021. PlayStation 5 shipments were down 0.6 million from the 4.5 million shipped during the same period the previous fiscal year, while PlayStation 4 shipments were down 1.2 million from the 1.4 million shipped.
Here are a couple of additional statistics:

  • There are 48 million PlayStation Plus subscribers as of December 31, 2021, which is up 0.6 million from the 47.4 million subscribers during the same period the previous fiscal year.
  • PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 software combined sold 92.7 million units in the third quarter of fiscal year 2021, which is down 11.5 million from the 104.2 million software sold during the same period the previous fiscal year. 11.3 million units were first-party titles, which is down 7.7 million from to the 19 million sold during the same period the previous fiscal year. 62 percent of software sales were full game software digital downloads, compared to 53 percent the previous year.

Keep on chuggin, PS4. If Sony has some brains they'll keep producing and (maybe) get that down to $200 but I know I'm being stupid... I mean, who wants another PS2 situation? Surely NOT Sony!

Well I guess we could have stopped saying the PS5 was selling at the same pace as the PS4 a while ago. The chip shortages sure are a bitch.

Obviously still going well, though.

Really pleased with mine. It's quiet and powerful and the first game I've played on it has been legendary.

BTW, anyone looking to score one should follow Jake Randall on Twitter/Youtube. That's how I ended up getting mine. Dude is a legend. Fuck the scalpers.

Sony Group Corp. fell as much as 8.6% in Tokyo on Thursday after cutting its PlayStation 5 sales forecast and announcing weaker-than-expected results from its gaming division over the holiday period.

The company slashed its fiscal-year outlook by more than 3 million units to 11.5 million PS5 sales and also warned that supply and logistics challenges will persist through 2022. The strong performance of its movie division, led by the latest Spider-Man film, and its image-sensor business driven by Apple Inc.'s bumper iPhone sales helped offset some of the harm, but investors were wary about the long-term prospects of the key gaming group.

"It is going to be very tough for Sony to better these earnings numbers next term even if there were no structural changes occurring in the industry, especially if we fully come out of lockdowns globally," Amir Anvarzadeh of Asymmetric Advisors said after Sony released its results on Wednesday.
