Thread: PS5 Owners Want Xbox Games

So the Xbox games are at the top of the preorder charts according to this article:

What this tells me is twofold:

A) Microsoft is truly retarded for ceding their software lineup to Sony, as this appears to have been on the verge of paying massive dividends. If they'd hung in there and simply released games without talking stupid shit about how you didn't need an Xbox, they'd be doing a lot better right now.

B) Sony fans are starved for content. So starved that they want Xbox games because they just don't have shit to play and are fucking tired of Sony's Remaster Everything strategy.

The takeaway? Sony and Microsoft are both retarded. It's hard to tell which one is the more.

I don't think it's a matter of "starved". On any console in any generation, there is always interest in what the other box has, and ports from one system to the other are almost always met with interest.

What, are PS owners supposed to boycott the games because of console wars or something?

The fact that the Xbox titles are topping the preorders list to me says PS owners are starved. What has Sony released this quarter to be excited over? In fact, what have they released since Astrobot hit last Fall? I totally say they are starved. I don't want them to boycott the games; I'm saying the overwhelming interest in the previous competition's offerings over what Sony has coming is telling.

I haven't turned on either systems in ages. PS5 for Astro Bot. Series X I don't remember. I really should trade them in before the value plummets

PlayStation is a mainstream box. Most owners aren't all that into the console wars. Indiana Jones is a mainstream property, and Forza is probably better-known by the public than Gran Turismo. Why wouldn't they get high preorders?

Aside from that, I agree that Sony's first party has faltered. But so has Microsoft and Nintendo and third-party AAA. Seems like across the board there are fewer games from the big devs. Sony's repeated failures with GaaS and their halfhearted second attempt at VR aren't helping either.

I haven't turned my Xbox SeX on in a long time. I play Overwatch 2 on PS5 because PS5 players are scrubs. I'm waiting for a good FPS to come out so I can play it on Xbox.

Sony and Microsoft are both retarded...and also evil.

Nintendo is evil...but not retarded.

Sega seems to be getting smart and haven't done anything evil recently (like attacking fans and video game preservation the way Nintendo does). Too bad Sega isn't in the hardware game anymore though.

i think its more the fact that sony console owners are starved for AAA games

if you look back to the ps3 era they had 144 ps3 only first party titles in the lifetime....ps5 as of today has 40
there is a direct correlation from when Jim Ryan took over to the output of their first party studios....the more xbox games sell on the playstation the weaker it will make sony in the long term

I don't think that A was an option.

There is no way to cover the huge costs of all these projects only with their Xbox and PC sales.

These Activision Blizzard studios were only sustainable because they sold their games on all platforms. PlayStation being the biggest. Turns out you can't keep the same costs while not selling your games on the platform that makes up like 30-60% of the sales of a videogame.

If they wanted to skip PlayStation, Xbox would've been forced to significantly cut people at those studios, making the projects smaller in scope, which would impact the games of course. The whole exclusive games thing became difficult, even Sony was forced to sell on PC.

And even hanging on to them as exclusives, they couldn't generate enough growth to ever make up for the lost PlayStation sales.

Yeah, this generation has been lousy for decent AAA releases, and Forza and Indy are at least decent from word of mouth, which I'd say is the biggest factor, but there's also the fact that the novelty factor of access to 'forbidden fruit' in previously unavailable platform exclusives is a very real thing we have the numbers for thanks to the Insomniac leaks.

When Playstation first ported their games to PC, they were insanely desirable to PC players, selling gangbusters and letting shortsighted 'platform agnostics' declare the era of the exclusive to be over, but with each release the novelty wore off, and while not a steady decline, some games outselling previous releases still, there was a obvious drop off in interest as time went on and having another platform's exclusives stopped being a novelty, to the point they're starting to bomb.

I don't even know that most people are aware these are Xbox games. I mean, we do because we live and breathe this shit, but the average person who doesn't take it all that serious and just wants something to play? I doubt it. But to me this just proves Playstation owners are hurting for content; they want something to play and here's something that looks good and isn't another remaster and they gobble it up. There used to be a time when one literally could not keep up with all the content coming out and I'm afraid that ship has sailed. The Playstation 5 is more like the Station 5.

You can't be the biggest publisher in the world while also keeping your software off of any platform with the compute to run it, it just doesn't financially work. Given that these decisions have made MS's gaming division more profitable than at any other point in its history, it ain't changing for grown men in their 40's who want to relive their childhood console wars on the playground.

MS has always done this, turning competitors into partners, and profiting after they fuck up a few times.

I haven't bought any yet. I have been interested in HiFi Rush but, I actually forgot about it until writing this. I will likely grab Forza on launch. I played it briefly on launch with my since sold Series S.

Question for anybody who knows MS behaviour around the Forza Horizon series. How long do they keep features online for?

There's no excusing away what Phil Spencer did here. He asked people to invest in his ecosystem and then spat in those same people's faces. If you knew the best Xbox games were going to wind up on PlayStation why would you ever buy one? If you can just have all the exclusives for both on your PlayStation what would ever be the point of investing in Xbox?

I primarily play on my PC. But the point is Spencer sold Xbox fans on the Xbox ecosystem and all the games that were coming. 10 years later there's no exclusives and they allowed the Series S to kill the X.

Yup, they sure did make those statements. But clearly that isn't the case anymore, and many of the Xbox games are now available on PS and Switch. The good news is, our Xbox still plays all those games and future Xbox Game Studios games, as will the next gen Xbox. And there isn't a wait to play the game, and for those that are interested in Game Pass (I'm not), they are there day one as well. All my game sharing will always work with my son for our games, achievements will continue to grow, and Xbox is releasing more games now than ever that will be there day one and on the subscription service.

I plan to continue buying PS Studios games on my PS, and Xbox Game Studios on my Xbox. If by chance the next Xbox does indeed include Steam support, then I will go down to a single console for the first time since owning an Atari 5200. I will keep my PS5 Pro around in case there is an old game in my library I want to access though.

Owning PS5, Steam Deck, and Switch covers more than a single PC and all three together are still much cheaper to boot. PC isn't the be all end all.

Instead of scrapping consoles entirely, just don't buy the redundant ones e.g. Xbox.

I love my Xbox and PS. Millions of us are happy with Xbox Game Studios games and the respective hardware. I don't find either of my consoles redundant and both are great fun.

Then why recommend just getting a PC?

I like having multiple machines too, fwiw. If someone gets use out of it, I'm not one to judge.

And Sony could easily resurrect their older IP's from PS1, PS2 & PS3 & give them newer branding, like Cool Boarders, Jet Moto, Motorstorm, Intelligent Qube, Syphon Filter, Jak & Daxter, Arc The Lad, Dark Cloud/Dark Chronicle, Ape Escape, Sly Cooper, etc.

But they don't want to do that. They would rather chase the tired old trends of AAA gaming with photorealism/hollywood graphics & live service gaming.

But NeoGAF said that Xbox has no games, and if they had games then they would buy one.

I don't think it's that black and white. I'd say only a few Xbox games would sell well on PlayStation. I mean, a few released on PS and only the pirate game and CoD are selling, the other ones fell totally flat and bombed hard.

And I don't think the latest first party Xbox sales were great outside of a few ones. Starfield sold well initially but fell off hard. Hellblade 2 bombed. Very quiet around Indiana Jones and it didn't set the world on fire at all.

Forza sales on PlayStation will be interesting but sales are always low when a game releases later on a different platform when the initial hype is gone.

There are a number of things that put me off ever getting involved with PC gaming again and one of those is that I always see people complaining about terrible PC ports.

The true path next gen is actually pc and switch 2 …..Microsoft already knew it …Sony will get dragged into it even if they don't like it or not…the market will literally be pc/cloud/switch ……the days of dedicated boxes are long gone

I mean you just said the 'true path' involves a Switch 2, which is the only console (or hybrid console for the pedantic) that still has full exclusives and makes games instead of chasing trends.

Plus Valve is also poised to be making a dedicated console PC in the style of their Steam Deck handheld PC, which will be a dedicated gaming box for 99.99% of people that buy one.

Both Xbox and Playstation would be perfectly fine if they didn't make shit games that compete with AAA third party titles and then release them on every platform, so there's no reason to own their hardware.

If the XSX had as many fantastic games you could only play on that console as the early 360 had, it would be selling amazingly, just like the 360 did. If Playstation was knocking out as many bangers as the late PS3/PS4 had, and you could only get them on the PS5, no one would be saying it's only worth buying a PC and Switch 2.

Hell, the absolute state of PC hardware pricing and utter incompetence on display with PC port optimisation should mean that consoles are the clearly superior choice to game on. The current management of both Xbox and Playstation have had to dedicate years of time to making the worst, most short sighted and stupid decisions possible to end up as unappealing as they currently are.

Playstation doesn't really have great racing games though so I think Forza is gonna sell pretty good.

To be fair though, PC gamers are more sensitive and complain more if a game doesn't deliver all the extra PC stuff that you don't get on consoles. Many console games with issues out there, but the user base is way more accepting of the shortcomings.

Like, console gamers have been plagued with the super shitty, noisy, crazy artefact ridden FSR2 that completely destroyed image quality for many multiplatform games. Something that PC gamers won't accept and they'd complain hard about. Depending on the quarter, AMD has a GPU market share of around 10-17% because of stuff like that. Other stuff as well. Lower draw distances, pop in etc. Console gamers have way lower standards overall.

That said.... Yes there are some shitty ass PC ports. But it's getting better after a pretty bad period in the first years after the new console launches. Vast majority of ports are at least decent.

I don't mind bad PC ports, but what got me out of high-end PC gaming is the overall lack of big AAA exclusives built for high-end hardware. For the most part, PC gets console leftovers but with higher frame rate and LOD. The days of big AAA exclusives like StarCraft 2 or Crysis are long gone.

PC is a great low/mid tier gaming platform with a ton of excellent indie options, but it ceased to be a AAA platform over a decade ago.

Forza is such a better series than GT: The True Insomnia Reliever. I think Forza is going to sell really, really well.

Or, the Ponies show tribal behavior trying to protect their brand and the Gran Turismo series, causing middling sales for Forza.

It would be dumb. But possible.

Funny thing is, yeah PCs get all the triple A exclusive games from Xbox and PS5, with high-end cucks getting the best version of these games. But instead of getting exclusive triple A PC games, it gets all the experimental weird and sometimes innovative indie stuff. So.... The lower tier stuff. Which is ironic.

And visual novel dating sims. Oh the gay anime dating.

Excited for Indiana Jones based on good things I've heard on Dpad. Only issue is that the Expansions are gated behind very pricey Editions, though I dont think anyone currently knows how good said expansions will be.

Forza 5 looks great but would have been nice to have 2 which was set in a Europe, 3 was set in Australia and 4 was in Great Britain. Videogame music/car/Hollywood movie adaption licenses are the worst.

Halo, Gears of War and Rare Replay Collection would be awesome assuming they don't fuck it up.

Ori Games would be nice.

No Rest for the Wicked is confirmed once out of early access and is not a Microsoft exclusive but it's by creators of Ori who made two of the best received Microsoft games over past few years and is shaping up to have a lot of potential provided they can keep up gigantic updates like their upcoming one.

I say a Fable and Fable II Remaster for multiplatform would be nice. Not expecting much from the new Fable but I've heard Fable and Fable II are pretty good.
