Thread: Pokemon Legends Arceus on Switch - Are the Tech Criticisms Justified? (Digital Foundry)
Timely video. The gameplay seems solid, but when you compare the graphics to other open-world games like BotW, Xenoblade 2, and MH Stories 2 it falls (very) short.

I hate to say it so close to launch, but I'm wondering if it would be better to wait a bit for a potential patch. Nintendo has actually done a decent job of patching performance issues on Switch games so we'll see...

It's good to hear that handheld mode performs "just as good" as the docked mode if not a bit better, since this is the way I'll likely play it.

Some of the far off scenery in the open world is just straight up inexcusable alpha/prototype-level placeholder levels of hideousness. Like, not even jokingly N64 level (albeit higher resolution).

With that said, I do like the look of the game and its art style. It can be visually attractive at times.

And this is what is meant by the rendering pipeline not being efficient or optimized. Like, I think it's clear that they made good progress working on this game. In fact, the colors and details in close to the player are pretty good. It's not quite to "PS4 quality" but it's good for Nintendo Switch. Their pipeline simply isn't handling objects at a distance efficiently. I see many similar issues in BotW, but that game manages to mask it pretty well a lot of the time except for the bad guys--those you can land on without knowing about them till the last second.

i personally don't give a crap. Any new game out can run on a ps3 or even 2. there's hundreds of vids with a game like nier automota or doom eternal running on a ddr3 system and the settings are on high.
