Rate Phil and his achievements as the leader of the Xbots

He is a likeable guy, so people seem to have a hard time holding him fully accountable. But he's been there a long time and has made many major decisions (I assume). He didn't steer the ship in the right direction.

Whether he had pressure from above and couldn't fully fulfil his own personal strategies and visions, we may never know. But it kinda doesn't matter. You have a leader and the group has failed under that leader. Any other company would have dumped him by now.

That's why I am confident Phil is doing exactly what Microsoft wants him to do. His persona is a part of that role. Microsoft sees no reason to dump him.

Don Mattrick's only sin, in the eyes of MS execs, was failing to hold up the paper mache dam. If he had been a smoother snake, he would still have a job at Xbox.

To be fair we all gave him the benefit of the doubt for years and years more than we should have. We're all responsible to be honest. He didn't do anything offensively bad that's the problem, just a decade of ineptitude. He had charisma, but little else.

Job Ryan got it in the neck like six months in. We all failed team green lol.
 
As much as people are up in their feelings, replacing Phill will do nothing but put an accountant in the hot seat.

"Why don't they copy PlayStation," you mean remasters, zero risk taking, and an 8% profit margin to show for it? Not to mention fucking their customers over at every opportunity.

How many more years of fucks ups, expenses and job losses shall we give him?

Honestly even a money man will at least get these numerous studios under control and outputting regular content.

By accounting logic Tango, and Arkane Austin should have been shit-canned the moment MS bought them. The last game Arkane Austin even helped on that turned a profit was Dishonored 1, and Tango has never turned a profit in its lifetime.

I fully expect MS to go full 3rd party soon, while still providing hardware in the same way their Surface division operates. Open up the console OS to accommodate other storefronts, open up the Xbox OS to other partners, and merge the Xbox store with their Windows store for people who have huge libraries. Sony will follow in 5 years or so, as they always do.

The old ways are done, there is too much profit on the line to service only 1/10th of even the market leader.

Uhhh who is this "we all"?

When he took over Mattrick's job in 2014 and folks desperately wanted to Believe, others pointed out that Phil had been in charge of Microsoft Studios since 2008 and a part of the Xbox brand since the beginning. Phil presided over Fable III and Fable Journey. Phil presided over Ensemble's closure. Phil presided over the Windows Phone gaming division.

Remember when people thought Phil would turn the Xbox One around? Remember when people thought Phil would turn Kinect around?

Sorry, but there's no "we all". Xbox fans gave him the benefit of the doubt for years, but it turns out it wasn't just "Sony ponies" who doubted him.

"We all" as in the general consensus. Compared to other executives, he was generally well liked. He got more of a pass also because he was seen as more of a gamer. As mentioned Jim Ryan had alot harder time, for a lot less.

We all know what its like when a higher ups position becomes untenable i.e Don Mattrick, Phil never got anything like that kind of unrest.

Personally I didn't mind him. Definitely cost sunk fallacy though of when he would turn Xbox into a entity capable of regular and critically acclaimed release cadence.

I had a good laugh at this. Thanks. Goes to show how fucking bad Phil is at his position. The guy bought all these studios and essentially has a monopoly, and yet he still fucked up significantly and failed. It gets better. Phil blamed all of these shortcomings.....on CAPITALISM!

As much as I love my Series X and can list various reasons why its my console of choice, I can't fully defend Phil or the direction Microsoft is headed in 2024. Theyve dropped the ball so hard, and I keep cheerleading them on regardless. Its a console/platform with so much potential, and I just don't see what theyre doing overall.

Im a PC guy at the end of the day, and have been since I quit being a Nintendo retard in 2015 or so.
