Thread: Phil Spencer claims PlayStation wants to grow ‘by making Xbox smaller’
Hint: And that's what MS is building towards.

In-before your fanboy reply: MS didn't have the luxury of joining the video game business when Sony did. No other company than MS could entered the market and survived for as long. Now they're finally done waiting for miracles and acquire the needed studios for a healthy future.

tl;dr: Fuck Sony
It's ok man, your Xbox Defender Premium check is in the mail. Complete with Phil calendar:

They didn't release a single triple a game this year. Sorry the text adventure pentiment doesn't count. That was made for 40 bucks and a bag of funyuns. If that's "fine" to you or anyone I'm not sure this world has any hope left.
And it has ten times more creativity than any of the mediocre Marvel movies or Ubisoft simulators that Sony makes for its consoles. Sad!

This dogging on Pentiment has to stop. Yes, its not AAA, but its a fantastic game. Lets play games and not assume quality on their budget and somehow elevate status because its $70 at the door.

Nah, Elden Ring is stomping them both.
Of course it is, for good reason.

Also not an Xbox exclusive.

My point here is Microsoft hasn't done jack shit except release increasingly mediocre versions of Halo/Gears and slightly better versions of Forza. For years, and years. They can make big promises and not follow through and folks still defend them. It's amazing.

Two GOTY contenders in Horizon and GoW just off the top of my head; Microsoft has literally nothing.

Imagine dogging GOTY level games and making it seem like nothing is a better choice.
Goty is bought by Sony for years, unless a new Zelda releases. Game journalists love their slightly interactive movie-games that don't take effort nor time to complete.

The company that is worth 1/10th of Microsoft (the company that literally buys studios instead of developing in-house talent) buys GOTYs?

Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

I wouldn't say that Sony buy them. However, there is an inherent problem with the TGAs in terms of the sort of games they tend to nominate and reward when you look at the criteria. @Arkam touched on this in another thread when he was discussing the TGAs after the show.

They put a great deal of emphasis on graphics, Voice acting, etc etc and that naturally favours your typical linear movie game, with high production values up the wazoo over something that's a lot broader in nature. Couple that with a nominating jury comprised of more of a mainstream focus versus a gamer focus and it's not much of a surprise that only highly marketed titles get much of a look in. Unless there's already a critical consensus around a title, or it's been heavily promoted, Neither the Guardian nor the LA times are going to be bothered to play it.

Can movie games be fun? Sure. However, beyond the technical aspects, I don't really see them pushing the medium forward unless they couple that with innovative gameplay and mechanics.

Elden Ring won game of the year from most places that I've seen. Including "normie" places like IGN. So, your whole statement is dumb as balls.

Yeah, but FROM knocked it out of the park. People were sceptical that they could successfully pull off an open-world Souls game and they delivered.

And Nintendogs got a 40/40 from Famitsu. You must be a dumb-expert, looking at your arguments.
You realize your second sentence (somehow bringing up game journalists from a point of talking about Sony buying GOTY...?) has nothing to do with the first?
That's why I wrote it right after the other sentence ... lord, give me strength ...

OK. You're fucking with us. You can't be serious.

Farts, if you can read this, remember to mash the keyboard with your palm. Hyperventilation is no joke. The German ambulance service has the big-boy wagon ready to dispatch if needs be.

Your socialised medicine ward has an Xbox Series X, a Game Pass sub and free ice-cream to help with recovery. They wanted to frivolously spend your hard-working taxpayers' money on PS5s and God of War: Ragnorok, but #GoodGuyPhil flew into Bavaria as soon as he heard the the German healthcare system was about to miss out on #TheBestDealInGaming and personally saw to it that the number of Game Pass subscribers went up.
