Was just able to nab a MSI Shadow 5080.

Is this a solid brand? I don't like the way it looks at all but I won't be looking at it with it inside my case. But I was purposely trying to nab one of the models that were as close to MSRP as possible. I just worry about re-sale value.

The cards do seem to be coming in stock at a pretty quick and steady pace today.

A 5080 is a 5080 at the end of the day so get whatever you can get your hands on. They all have the same level of customer service from my experience.

RIP EVGA :(

Msi is a good brand. Theyve several models. The suprim is the best msi model.

What is interesting regards the 5080 is that it seems it has a lot of headroom for overclocking. This has been seen in 5080s from many manufacturers. But i dont like manual overclocks, the nvidia autotune app is said may automatically overclock without voiding warranty. 10 to 15% fps gains are possible with overclock.

Btw make sure you get gpu z and check rop count. Like 3 to 5% of 5080 are missing rops and this deals significant performance loss.

Ps

It seems the 5080 may even have 32Gbs memory chips that nvidia ordered downclocked to 30Gbs but while some apps allow unlocking this performance until official support comes from Nvidia I wouldnt push that far.

Yeah, seems like the 5080's were heavily underclocked. I got 450+ on the core and 1000+ on the memory. Looks like I can push it more as my temps don't push past 65

For certain operations and parts of the computing process, not overall performance increase.
Not only that its not like nvidia is running high ray path tracing. Nvidia only calculates with low ray counts a fraction of the scene and ai denoises and completes the rest of the image. When denoising is combined with DLSS it is likely nvidia is getting 5x to 10x higher perf than brute force path tracing. Even if what these guys say is true without ai perf it is meaningless figure.

So, I am really happy with the SIMAGIC Alpha (15nm), that thing is surprisingly heavy! And I am glad I got this rather than the alpha mini.

I mounted it on the Next Level Racing Wheel Stand 2.0 and it is super sturdy, there is zero flex or movement, even when the wheel is going berserk during crashes.

Using the castor wheel holder, my chair does not move at all.

Played some Dirt Rally 2, WRC Generations, Assetto Corsa Evo and Project Cars 2 and managed to detect and configure wheel and pedals just fine.

Only thing I want to get is 4 angle brackets so I can also secure it using the side screw holes and mount it more securely on the metal surface. Will visit a hardware store tomorrow and see if I can find them.

Glad the two grand was not a waste!

That looks awesome! Must be really immersive.

Also, I remember you said you paid quite a lot for all of this but how much was the frame? Because, in case you're handy, it looks to me like I could easily build that frame out of structural pipe fittings and conduit for super cheap like I did with my arm-wrestling table...

HdKmhP6.jpg
uhfB6Iz.jpg

All you need to adjust the fittings is a hex key and they slide until you tighten them. Then it's nearly like they're welded until you loosen them again. They have fittings in 45 degree angles as well. Only tools I used where a tubing cutter and measuring tape, so it was super simple. And if you need to secure anything to it you just drill holes through the conduit and use bolts and nuts. (I drilled halfway through and threaded the holes for mine because I have a threader but I'm probably just going to drill all the way through and do the nuts and bolts for safety) People like using my table because it's heavy and sturdy so it's really hard to tip. Really cheap as well. Probably around ~100 bucks to make a frame like in your pic.

Anyhow, I've always wanted a steering wheel and HOTUS setup. That's probably next on my list of expensive purchases and I'd always planned on building my own frame. Have you tried racing in VR with a setup like that? I just saw optimums new video and thought of you're new rig. Also got super jelly lol.

Weird how it takes so long, didn't you buy it weeks ago?

Also... What will he the first game you'll check out with that beast?

Originally it was bought from Amazon ES via a bot, but it was sitting there for weeks. This one I got a few days ago via Amazon UK. Easier for me warranty wise.

The only issue is someone who ordered one last week, actually got a scam Trio card. The PCB has been swapped for a different card (easy tell was no bios switch and board extending into the cut out part of the heat sync), that was bought direct from Amzon as well. I will be filming opening up the box! lol.

First game wise, I think I'll bounce around a bit. Returnal, Cyberpunk and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth will be my first ones I think.

Yeah, it's night and day compared to the G920! Need to be careful not to accidentally break a finger!

The frame was £200 so not too bad. I dont have a shed or garage to do metal work, nor am I particularly handy with these things tbh. But the frame is surprisingly solid. I just did not want a full rig with seat, as it takes way too much space and needs a dedicated spot.

I pulled my Nvme from my old system into my new one and it worked straight away like nothing changed, only needed to re-enter the licence. I went from one Ryzen chip and Nvidia card to another though.

I'll do research on it. My PC is a sort of workstation. Would have to reinstall dozens of programs.

Most people do a clean install but I haven't bothered the last couple of times and have been fine, Windows is good at handling it these days.

Otherwise just copy and paste all of the old systems' program file folders, windows folders, User's folder etc after you've done your fresh install of Windows and the programs you need to get everything back to how it was.

Gaming laptops are such a scam!

A 5090 laptop costs easily more than 4k. While the mobile 5090 delivers desktop 5070 performance. It's so misleading and overpriced.

So I'm thinking I should get that slick 9800x3D for CPU. But I need to pick a cooler and mobo for it. How do you choose one? Their naming conventions are just random numbers.

My current one ASUS Z370-P was good to me, so I need at least the same feature set, except 3 m2 slots instead of 2 this time. No less than 4 SATA slots as usual, a spot to insert a sound card and lots of USB outputs. Probably ASUS.

I'm not saying you should buy it, I only bought this mobo because it had a 30% discount at the time and had all I needed, I don't actually know how it compares to others.

I picked up an Asus ROG B650E which has what you describe - 3 to 4 NVMe slots, 4 Sata ports, three PCIe slots and about 10 USB ports. The onboard sound/DAC ain't too bad either, has a 120Db ratio and 32bit/384Khz support.

Also just using a fairly cheap ThermalRight Phantom Spirit air cooler, the hottest my 9800X3D has peaked under stress testing is 81C and that's without the fans being at full tilt.

I stumbled on that mobo during my search. Appears quite expensive but looks like I'll have to get one. Should carry me through next 5 to 10 years. I'll take a look at that cooler too. Thanks.
@HE1NZ Oh, if you do decide on a 9800X3D, make sure you get RAM that supports a speed of at least 6000 and timings preferably no higher than 30 or 32.

RAM scares me. I'll have to replace all 64gigs with DDR5. Last time I checked they were still quite expensive.

My new AIO is keeping my 13600k so damn cool, I need to look at ways to lower the pump voltage but I couldn't do it in the BIOS so far. Running at well under 60C basically all the time during gaming.

Or I'll look at some overclocking.....

Current line up looks like this:

ASUS ROG STRIX B650E-E GAMING WIFI
AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D BOX
Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 Black
2x Kingston FURY Beast Black [KF564C32BBEK2-32] 32 ГБ [DDR5, 16GBx2, 6400 MHz, 32(CL)-39-39]
2000 GB M.2 NVMe Samsung 970 EVO Plus [MZ-V7S2T0BW]

Questioning if I want to buy 4 sticks of 16gb or 2 of 32gb. Low timings appears more common among 16gb sticks and these supposedly more stable, but I might want to get 128 total in the future. But I guess replacing the whole stack won't be too hard.

Also found out that one of my m2 SSDs (512gb) won't be compatible with the new mobo, because it has SATA in its name. It looks like any other m2 drive, but apparently it uses an outdated standard.

I'm going bankrupt.

I don't know why my newest PC has this odd quirk but it's starting to piss my off more than it should.

Whatever I have the volume set to on any particular device, I have to set it to an even number otherwise it just feels wrong. Retarded, I know.
But for some reason, every single time I boot up my PC, it always starts with the volume on an odd number one digit lower or higher than what it was set to before shutoff. Why is it fucking with me like this?

Completely forgot this game comes out today. Another Sony PC port with zero marketing and apparently not a great port but better than the first one

I have zero excitement for the Sony ports anymore. Barely any scaling above the console versions, way too high hardware requiremements, performance issues, visual bugs. Fuck off with that shit.

I would go with two sticks. When I was putting mine together I swear people were talking about how finicky the ASUS boards are with 4 sticks. I have two 32GB Corsair vengeance in mine and have had no issues.
