Overclockers? :sneaky:

Did the BIOS Flashback to update the motherboard with no CPU, worked perfectly. Installed CPU. Just put XMP on, lowered fans, everything else left at stock.

35c Idle temps on my 420 AIO. I'll be limited how much I can test without a graphics card. I wonder how high I'll be able to boost. 5.3ghz is a given for nearly all of them.

It feels good to have a PC again boys. Time for some 500fps MS Calculator.

Solitaire going to be getting put through the wringer

I ordered a new case 😅. What can I say it's lego for adults lol. Nice relaxing afternoon tomorrow. This matches the fans I've got already (only will be two 140mm in the back rather than two 120mm currently. Ordered the argb accessory kit as though, though that is on pre order. Total for fun purchase rather than needed.

That looks nice!

I'm so glad that I don't care about my case. It's under the table and I don't even think about it. Great cooling, good case, no issues.

It's a slippery slope. But on the plus side doubles as my Christmas tree 🎄 . I currently have orange flame set for Halloween, I need to change lol.

The 140mm fans and 420 AIO keep the system really cool and Silent. The cases are my version of your Mice! :)

Been using big flat screen TVs instead of PC monitors since 2005. Finally upgraded from a 55" 2017 to a 65" 2024 LG Oled because I wanted VRR, since I'm very sensitive to bad frame times, stutters and juddering.

My goodness VRR is beautiful, it's so silky, all of those games that used to hitch, judder, stutter, they're almost entirely smoothed out, it feels like games are running 30fps higher on the same hardware, it's hands down one of the best upgrades I've experienced in gaming.

One of the first games I tried with it was BeamNG since it runs like ass on a Ryzen 3600. Though the game often chugs in the high 40s and low 50s, it's now actually playable and enjoyable.

I've also used tvs as monitors for a long time. The fact we are upto 4k 144fps with Gsync is amazing. My new tv can go up to 1500nits as well, which for an OLED is huge.

Oh so there's a Series X like case for your PC. @Hostile_18 needs to make a new build I guess.

The power button on the floor would be a deal breaker. I'm also brining in my NAS "in house" so PC has to accommodate a couple of 16tb drives. Plus I have no limitations on which 5090, I'd surely have them with this. Lastly I have 4 nvmes on my board.

All that been said I have loads of time for small form factor PCs. I might make one someday.

Audio is my thing at the moment. You should see the absolute units I'm hooking up to my PC/Cinema lol.

New toys installed;

LG G4 77"
Focal Theva Left, Right and Centre speakers
Focal Theva Stands

Also painted the wall and wall mounted the TV.

Nearly all voice activated, including colour changing lights. Need to look at the PC RGB, but that's a battle for another day.

Nice! How do you like the Focal speakers? I have Focal headphones and they're incredible.

Early days (like installed yesterday) but a big improvement. I'm hoping to add in the Sub later this month, and the rears next year. I defintely feel more immersed in the soundtracks.

Getting a G4 is insane lol. About as top of the line as a tv gets

Yep I almost went with a C4 but thought I'd pay the extra grand for the massive difference in peak brightness. I use my tv for home theatre, gaming, work, youtube etc daily so with how much I use it, its a reasonable investment.

Yeah I got the 55" G4 as well a couple of months ago. I thought the same as you, for another £500 the quality jump from the C4 seems to be totally worth it.

Plus it was on sale plus I got a £700 LG surround system for free (which sounds great btw and connects seamlessly). All this for £1800, it will last me a decade hopefully.

Microsoft really needs to fix their gaming related Windows shit. The DirectX 12 debacle and this here

If they just release SteamOS on PC I'll never go back to Windows. The basic OS hasn't changed in a decade, yet there are still bugs and issues around.

Pretty interesting

Seagate's biggest-ever hard drive is finally here, coming with 32TB of capacity courtesy of the company's new HAMR technology

Exos drives based on Mozaic 3+ were initially released to select customers in small quantities, but now the general release is (nearly) here, thanks to mass production. Coinciding with this, Seagate silently published the product page for its Exos M HDDs, which includes a 32TB model using the shingled magnetic recording (SMR) storage format and a 30TB model using conventional magnetic recording (CMR

Good for data hoarders, though no idea what the price point on these will be, though presumably, it will become everyday consumer-affordable over time.

How long until we start seeing more TB's of storage than GB's of VRAM becoming the norm?

Might as well just do it now. I read the same statement a lot online, so there appears to be confusion of what SteamOS is and what it can and can't do, so let's explain the situation: there's nothing inherently special about SteamOS outside its specific tweaks for the Deck, otherwise, all the bells and whistles of SteamOS can be easily reproduced in any other distro, since pretty much everything that makes gaming work nicely on SteamOS (Wine/Proton,DXVK, Gamescope, MangoHud) is all open-source and isn't locked to SteamOS. They're just a set of tools that can be installed on any Linux system. So you can easily install something like Bazzite for example (which has the above components installed out of the box) and get a basically identical experience to what a SteamOS public release would be like.

Actual hold-ups that I think are what one should direct their attention to when deciding when to switch away from windows (and not wait for Valve Time to release something with the number 3 in it) are things such as:

Nvidia to stop embarrassing themselves and have more than 3 devs working on the Linux driver.

Multiplayer game companies to stop being so pissy and flip the switch that says "enable Linux support for the anticheat".

A few smaller quirks like HDR, multiple displays etc that seem to be basically there from what I read (I play games with HDR for example just fine here after a couple tweaks), and I suspect just a few months of now they'll be completely sorted so that they work out of the box.

In general all of the issues I mentioned can be improved in short time if the relevant parties decide to care enough. But gaming on Linux is already here and it's a pretty great experience, provided you don't play fastfood games with questionable anticheatd like cod or League of legends, or whatever is the rage nowadays.

That is good to hear. I have linux on my PC already but I'll probably try something like Bazzite to make things more streamlined.

I haven't switched to Bazzite yet myself as my install is working fine and I find the concept of starting over and reinstalling any OS daunting.

I do however use Kinoite on my work laptop, a cousin to Bazzite (it has the same streamlining and OOTB benefits but it's made for general use and not gaming like Bazzite) and it's fantastic for my work needs. This 7 year old laptop that doesn't "support" Windows 11 works like a dream now, much much faster than when it used to be on Windows 10.

I just place my tower behind my monitor (it's where my modem and router reside also)

After turning it on, it's not like there's much else to do with it, and my ultrawide and KRK Rokits take up enough space on their own
