Finished up Chapter 4 earlier today. It was way more impressive the first time and this was probably the most noticable in terms of quality shift. I don't pay attention to the LGBQT+ community much because they're annoying, but undoubtedly they have had their hand in this remake's writing. I don't recall the entire original TTYD word for word, but it wasn't this watered down in its writing like the remake can be

It is unfortunate. The changes can be very annoying, because I knew that the changes came from the woke 'writers' given the go ahead to make the changes. I know what they say, and they all parrot the same phrases, topics, things so it's not difficult to tell immediately when you come across some of their dialogue. Chapter 2 was smoothed out a bit better than in the original. But Chapter 4 definitely had a couple of hiccups in quality as far as the changes in writing went. I don't want to point out the NPCs and characters because going into that would spoil the chapter itself, but Chapter 4 has diluted writing that ruins the tone and some of the jokes. Chapter 4 in general was way simpler than I remember it being. For some reason I thought it was a lot longer and more complex than it actually is. As for the changes, I'll have to watch a compare and contrast video or two to see how much was changed in this game. The original is definitely better, all the remixed tracks on the OST haven't impressed. In fact, many of them do not match the tone of the game

It's a shame that I was able to detect these mundane writing habits that all the strange folk online at ResetEra repetitively use, in one of my favorite games and one of the greatest games of all time, no less. Don't get me wrong, I'm still enjoying this game. But with Chapter 4 at some points I could tell that some DEI writers had their hand in this specific chapter and it ruined the flow plus the overall atmosphere. Instead of being immersed I was like c'mon man, why? Their role in infiltrating this game has put a damper on TTYD's greatness. Earlier today during the Nintendo Direct, there was a phrase used for the latest Splatoon 3 content that annoyed as well. NoA needs to be put in check. I'll let you know if there are any other chapters that were tampered with going forward too

Cannot wait to experience Chapter 6 again. I'm not there yet, about to start Chapter 5. After finishing this next level I'll probably attempt to get to level 60 in the Pit of 100 Trials, explore more of Rogueport of course, and then prepare for Chapter 6. It's so unique, that chapter, it's amazing. The first time I played it, it flew over my head. Was too young to appreciate what happened. It's like the David Lynch of Paper Mario levels

During my first time playing through Chapter 3, I never went back to make a comeback as the Great Gonzales. I don't even remember Prince Mush in the GC version. Just goes to show how easy it was to miss details. I'm thinking about going to the Glitz Pit to fight my way up the ranks, earn some star points, and see how Jolyne and the other fighters are handling the ring after everything with Grubba. It's going to be nice seeing a new opponent who is most likely as tough if not tougher than Rawk Hawk

One of the funniest moments in the entire game is when Crump insults Flavio. That line was hilarious. I don't know how Intelligent Systems does it, but these Paper Mario games definitely have jokes if nothing else

Just boarded the Excess Express about thirty minutes ago. So excited to finally be at this level. Might be my favorite chapter in the entire game, it's definitely in first or second place. Overlooked and underappreciated lvl

Finished the game the other day. This was really good. Badge system was good, though somewhat made putting into HP and FP somewhat pointless until the final boss. Lots of interesting chapters and set pieces throughout. The partners were good, my main guy was the Yoshi and I love that they have dialogue for the partner of your choosing during cutscenes. Story was surprisingly enjoyable with decent world building and mini stories that really helped that final scene and boss fight really land. The music was also excellent with each chapter having it's own battle theme and just quite a few bangers throughout the game.

Honestly the only bad thing I can think of is the back tracking and I can only imagine how bad it used to be in say chapter 7. Seriously? Go to ice city, backtrack to 5 towns, go back to ice city, go to the city you didn't go to, then go back to the ice city and to rub the whole thing in your face, the guy you're looking for is there and was looking for you.. They made this somewhat bearable with the warp zone (which apparently wasn't in the original) but that is bonkers that they did that.

Other than that, it's a very good video game.

What's your ranking of the levels or chapters in TTYD? And did you enjoy Toad Town in the original Paper Mario more, or Rogueport in TTYD as a central hub?

This was my first Paper Mario so I don't have an opinion on Toad Town but Rogueport was pretty good imo. Pretty lively and they do a good job of making it feel like a actual lived in space rather than a spot to talk to npcs.

If I had to rank the chapters in terms of enjoyment it'd look something like this;

8
3
5
4
6
1
2
7

I had fun with all chapters and the only one that I would say might actually be bad, would be chapter 7 because of the insane backtracking. Chapters 1 and 2 are interchangeable, they're good, just felt like they weren't super interesting and the bosses were pretty easy. After those two chapters I was caught off guard by the other bosses doing more damage than I thought they would and had a lot more fun fighting them as well as the regular enemies.

Finished Chapter 6 the other day and I thought it was a good change of pace to shake things up. The first time playing it was better, because there is no way you could expect any of that to happen the first time. But that level sure is a looker. Toodles the Toad might be my favorite character for that stretch. Or maybe Heff T? Pennington was also hilarious

Chapter 7 was never anyone's favorite I don't think, and now I'm remembering why even when just at the beginning. All these Bob-ombs near Fahr Outpost can barely speak. A bit of a cop out when the NPCs are intentionally dumbed down in such a way that it describes their entire character

I guess TOTK is better than I give it credit for sometimes. Whenever I play a game, the craving to play more Zelda usually sets in before long. Even with a game as good as TTYD, the craving to play TOTK is still there

I have to agree that Chapter 7 has some ridiculous backtracking. The strange part, is that I don't even remember having a problem with it in the original... Tbh, the second to last and last segments of the game never had a lasting impression me. I'm at the final stretch of the game now, and it'll probably go by quickly. I never completed the Pit of 100 Trials but now Ilwith what I know it might be a piece of cake

First playthrough ranking differs from Remake ranking
Currently this is my overall ranking of the chapters:

3 >> 5 > 6 >>>> 2 > 1 > 4 > 7 (still need to finish 7)

Completed TTYD about thirty to fourty minutes ago. Chapter 8 and the ending is so much better than the original. Night and Day. The one thing that I was really hoping for was for Nintendo and Intelligent Systems to smooth out the rough moments in the game where things got a little dull story-wise. And they did. The ending wasn't perfect, but it was definitely great and I truly appreciate the effort to close the game out strongly. In the original, the ending was very flat, tbh. But in the remake, several chapters were improved and the finale was spectacular. Presentation was much stronger this time around

I still want to do an entire write up on Chapter 6 eventually because that is such an unorthodox level in the game. Loved it in the Remake, but you can't beat the first time playing that level. There was a Boo in the original Poshlet Heights, I think it was actually Lady Bow? She wasn't here in the original at the same location... And from what I can recall, Poshley Heights in the original looked better with its grass and maybe even the overall aesthetic? Maybe I'm not remembering that right though, maybe they were near identical? Well in any case, I'll have to set aside some time to reflect in that one of a kind level. This is just me and my brain working here, but I believe that level drew some inspiration from EarthBound in a way and that Chapter 6 also paved the way for other rpg levels. There's a board in Mario Parry 8 that seems to have drawn inspiration from TTYD and that same level

Can you spoil me about the ending of the game. What was different?

Can you spoil me about the ending of the game. What was different?
In the original TTYD, when you fight the final boss there is a series of cutscenes of some of the characters you engaged with over the chapters. It was very gloomy and spacious, half-hearted even. For sure it was. Half-hearted and when it happened the characters were kind of like lifeless and dull in their cutscene. Especially Rawk Hawk, he was just kind of there and did next to nothing when he was shown and knew something terrible was going on

In the most recent TTYD, there is a fully fleshed out ending. Everything is cohesive and tied together, the credits are different too. It feels like the adventure came full circle. I'm big on endings, because they ideally should try to wrap up the game and encompass the experience that took place althroughout, what they give so that the player can fondly look back and be reminded of all that happened and the importance of it all. Something that is substantial and genuine in the way of, this is the final 5-10% of the game and it was done right, and it was done well. It sucks when the the end of the game feels like a project's end for the developer and is blatantly rushed or lacking completeness in every facet of the way. Endings to books and games should be one of the best parts. The ending should try to imoortalize the story and its characters if it were strong enough to leave that lasting impression. All too often, games just kind of end and you can tell the developers just wanted the game to be finished abd off their hands. That's how the original TTYD ending felt, it was a bit more abrupt

But now the game has an ending where everything is kind of goofy, fun, more informative, and gives characters their time in the limelight whereas before, I don't think anybod that took place. I honestly just remember being kind of confused about the entire story but in the Remake it's all a lot clearer and better explained. All the plot twists stuck out and landed better this time around

I'll have to find an original ending and the Remake ending on YouTube and bring then here for fans to compare. I just know for a fact that the Remake hit a home run this time in that regard. The original's ending takes second place here, no question

This is one of my favorite chapters. I think that out of all the chapters, this one by far had the best aesthetic and almost perfected what Paper Mario should look like, level for level. Maybe I just like trains for some reason too. It's also such a great level because it is the complete opposite of Rogueport. You're in the game playing as Mario this entire time and you're constantly in the slums or the sewers when not adventuring. So this level is the ultimate juxtaposition here in that regard. It's nothing truly luxurious however, because that would entail that everything is fine and well off. But it's not. You see the greed. The exorbitant greed of the characters. And what happens to them on the train? They are consumed by an equally greedy fiend. Smorg was suffocating. And those characters riding on the Excess Express were consumed by both greed and Smorg. They became the same monster at one point, and lost their humanity for a time, until Mario came in and set everything straight

I think there were eight bedrooms for the passengers. The most luxurious ones being the higher numbers, from what I gather. So Mario was actually in a great position thanks to Don Pianta. The first time I played the game, I remember a Shy Guy on the train? Maybe not though. The diary portion caught me by complete surprise in the original. I think I wasn't saving as often as I should have in the game so that first time was a shocker lol. But out of all the rooms, it's hard to say which one was the most enjoyable. I really liked visiting the Business Rattooie, Toodles the Toad, and Heff T. but the others were alright too. The chef is so weird in this level, and then there's that ditzy Toad waitress who perfectly matches that aura of rich kid in a wealthy area working her high end job

The first time I played the game, I was too young to appreciate the pit stop at Riverside Station where the train staff would stop to get some fuel. For many years, I kind of saw that as a very deserted and almost eerie place. I liked the Western scenery they had at Riverside Station and there were countless wanted posters so you already know that even though the place was deserted, that anywhere Mario and company goes in this game is bound to be plagued by some kind of trouble

Poshley Heights is brilliant even though it's so short lived. In the original I swear I remember a green Boo who I'm pretty sure was Bow. But in this Remake, not there. The Remake of Poshley Heights seems to have cut out some material for sure, because it was very bare. But that is also the point. Not everything is what it seems. These passengers are all very rich, some of them returning to their homes in that part of the world. But when you get there, it's so plain and vapid as well as missing something. That's exactly how those extremely well off party of town or cities feel though. Things seem too perfect, yet they are lacking... It's a very bizarre energy and aura to experience. I love the Penguins in the Paper Mario series whenever they're in the games. And I remember the grass being a lot better looking in the original? Maybe I'm forgetting. The hotel in Poshley Heights sucks lol. I liked the hotels in Super Mario RPG but this was an actual hotel and yet, it was just an elevator trip into a room and then forced rest. Kind of a letdown. You would expect a much finer experience there at Poshley Heights. But again, that place as nice as it looks all about appearances. Not depth. The entire town of Poshley Heights takes a look into the lives of the rich and all that they have and the duality of all that they're missing

Going from Chapter 5 to Chapter 6 was a great change of pace and an excellent transition. Bold and daring adventuring right into mystery and the pitfalls or maybe just downside (depending on how you view it) of wealth. Extremely nice touch adding Doopliss and the Shadow Sirens. I think that Chapter 3 is still the best that TTYD has to offer and might be in my top three favorite chapters in the series. At the very least it's top five for sure. Chapter 5 is great and my second favorite in TTYD. Chapter 6 receives third place among all of the chapters in TTYD, but this is also the chapter that I appreciate the most

Wow, there is a beautiful remix of the Super Mario Bros. underwater theme that plays during the presentation of Chapter 3: Of Glitz and Glory

Unfortunately, this track doesn't appear to be uploaded to YouTube? I'll have to search further into this at some point. This is the best version of the song I've heard yet
