Thread: One Piece |OT| People's Dreams... Never End!!!!
Official Thread
Yeah it's difficult to rank the Straw Hat Pirates, they all put their all in and fortify the crew in their own ways. Each member of the crew is either strong as fuck, versatile enough to be irreplaceable, or a combination of both. But I'll try to rank my favorites. My list tends to change slightly every year or two anyway. Note that Jinbe could be higher on the list had he been an official Mugiwara earlier in the series

1. Luffy
2. Roronoa Zoro
3. Franky
4. Usopp
5. Chopper
6. Sanji
7. Robin
8. Jinbe
9. Brook
10. Nami

Wanna place Jinbe higher to be honest, but can I? Although he put in massive work at Marineford, 3D2Y, Fishman Island, Whole Cake Island, Wano — is that enough for me to place him above Robin, Sanji? Not sure that Jinbe has earned that just yet…

I want to like Nami more, and I do appreciate her, but she has to be at the bottom. Amazing character. But her weaknesses as a fighter must land her at the very bottom. It actually feels wrong putting her at dead last, but it's probably justified. Brook vs Nami for least effective SH is a great discussion waiting to happen. Someone has to be last, after all

Where in this first post of my response to you? To make you change my name to Softensoul. If it's sarcasm I missed it.

I have not said anything about people posting about disliking the live action - that's a matter of personal opinions. As for Gantz live, you liked it great!(This is not sarcasm). I've never seen, so no comment.

My conversation with @Dacon is about the discussion surrounding that live action. Which it seems we still are misunderstanding each other.

Im joshing with ya soften 😁

Don't know who's derailing OP discussions. My reply's are specific between live or anime or manga. Manga is obviously ahead so I try not to spoil for the non readers.

I literally in that post say I wasn't specifically singling Dpad out, and it was a general complaint.

We don't have official Live Action One Piece thread. There's the thread that talked about the LA trailer.

and people have been using the thread as a live action general anyway.

I thought this thread about all things One Piece.

It is, and nowhere did I try to police it, I think you just wanna be combative.

Outstanding chapter. Kizaru gripped by Luffy like he's a fucking action figure? This is an Admiral we're talking about, and this guy is looking like he might be on death's door. He'll probably find a way out, but Luffy is treating him like a toy doll in Gear 5th right now. Kuma versus the Holy Land and Fleet Admiral Sakazuki steps in to fight. Not sure how Kuma will reach Egghead unless his allies scoop him up but the next chapter should reveal what transpires nextI would think. Very exciting battles beginning here

I haven't watched the anime portion, but the fight in which you're referencing takes place in a war. Versus a creature who could be considered one of the most menacing and powerful villains in any manga or anime

WAIT

So this anime has the longest fight in anime history?

21 EPISODES LONG????

How the fuck does that even work?

Because, there are so many major characters fighting at same time. Haven't seen the anime but in the manga each chapter dedicates or give updates of other fights. By middle to end of the arc or anime seasons each fight would start to end and some mini story arcs start to get resolved. Then Luffy vs Kaido would be last to end. In story time wise is short but telling out the story obviously takes more episodes.

Edit: This isn'rt like Goku vs Vegeta or Frieza where it's only 1v1 for whole season or 2 seasons. 😱

Not at all, this is just a discussion of a disagreement on a subject.

For me it's hard for me to decipher context and intent being written. I thought our discussion was civil. If you thought I came off too combative, that was not my intent. Especially my first response post.

We are both One Piece fans, but just disagree on the live version. To me I prefer One Piece Manga>Anime>Live Action.

Live action can be its own thing since the medium is so different. I thought it was good enough and it captured the essence of One Piece. It can also be a gateway to get more fans into One Piece world that we enjoy. 👍 😊

The live action has reignited my interest in watching the anime again. It took me about 2 weeks to rewatch up to Thriller Bark(Almost 400 episodes) of One Piece anime on Netflix. Netflix has been slow dripping the seasons.

Thriller Bark is still ass especially Gecko Moria 😂. What save the arc is Kuma, ending fight and Zorro/Sanji.

Alabastar still great. Water 7/Enis Lobby still got me teary eyed.
Robin"I want to Live", Bye Merry and Franky(rewatching got me to understand his character and appreciate him more)

I had stop watching around Fishman arc, reason was anime was slow and I had already knew what was going on in the Manga. But now I want to to see those arcs I missed animated.

Thank You! Echiiro Oda you've entertained us for over 20yrs.

Chapter 1094 spoiler (image macro):

I remember a poster on GAF, who was a big conspiracy guy, talked about how One Piece had a hidden message and was actually heavily based in conspiracy theories. He got banned after that when EL started the purge with getting rid of "crackpots". I cannot remember his username though.

Also, please ignore one certain part of the macro lol it does not make sense with the pentagram it is being compared to. Or maybe it does, considering Japan does have an anti-Semetic streak.

Some more thoughts/ramblings from 1094:

The most common theory is that Saturn is a spider yokai like the ushigumo. I think he is meant to be Baal, who is also often depicted as a monster with the lower body of a spider. He is the first king of Hell, the first demon in a lot of grimoires, so it may make sense that he is the first revealed.

So is it a Devil Fruit? He has the awakened Zoan cloud ribbon, but even with mythical Zoans we have not seen something like the summoning circle. Given that summoning and occultism/Satanism exists in One Piece (e.g. Brook getting summoned by cultists) it is entirely possible that this is an a literal occult (hidden) system that we only got a peak at, or a gift of Im's power.

That makes me wonder about something else - we keep hearing about the Sea Devil, but what if that is just more World Government propaganda like the "Gomu Gomu no Mi" was? Memetic warfare meant to hide the truth, maybe even to sabotage those who carry the will of the "Sea Devil", the Devil Fruit users by making them believe the sea is their weakness. As we know, belief and will manifest in One Piece, especially when Joy Boy is around.

The Gorosei also seem to be literal devils/demons, so what if the "Sea Devil" is actually a Sea God? The WG divided the seas and limit movement between them, with the Red Line and Grand Line like ropes to constrain it. Maybe Im is the real Devil.

Just got to Amazon Lily on my rewatch. Luffy got violated and he didn't even know! Haha!!
They're still mushroom down that, gotta pull it off, what's those two balls, gotta pull that too!!!

Start of Summit War, Saboady devastation is even better watch for this time. The stakes seem more intense now that I know what's to come.

Even tho I know what's coming the show still hits you in the feels!

Not sure how strong Saint Saturn is, being a Planetary Elder and all but it seems like Jewelry Bonney did some damage. Similar to when Zoro managed to slice Kaido, except less painful. Purely in speculation, by the looks of it in the panel… I'll estimate that blow did about 4-6% damage to Saturn

His facial expression shows fury if you look in his eyes, and he did lose some blood. But this guy is supposedly a defensive god, so he is probably filled with hate after being struck so early after his arrival. Next chapter we might see Bonney's full wrath and ability in battle

I think I psyche myself out. 482/483 didn't get me. But it's the subsequent episodes made it more emotional! 😭😞

Summit War was/is a great arc both Manga/Anime. Bob Chan the MVP of this arc 😂 👍

Timeskip, not a fan of Nami art(less under boob please) don't recall manga looking like that. Robin is ok but like her look in Water 7, missed Miss All Sunday look(cowboy hat). Like new look of Luffy, Chopper, Sanji, Brook and Zoro. Franky is too much a Mech but I started to like it later.

Fishman island and Punk Hazard, I liked it better when reading Manga. But coming off Summit War Fishman island was not going to live up to that. But we do get overall world building and lore of void history.

Side note**The issue that Robin is the only one that knows about history** and she's most endangered from World Government. But the crew seemed to still be oblivious of that danger**. There will protect her no matter what though!

Punk Hazard itself is not good but being start of Dressrosa is ok. Caesar Clown should not have been that tough for the crew. It may have been drawn out too long for anime. I recall liking PH in manga.

From here on is where I left of watch anime. Off to Dressrosa, this will be a good one to watch. Loved the Arc in Manga.

Oda reveals the full backstory of the Kid Pirates:

Kid, Killer, Heat, and Wire were born in a certain island in the South Blue unaffiliated with the World Government, which was ruled by a criminal gang that acted as its royalty. The island was subdivided into four districts, which each had its own local criminal gang, each led by the four aforementioned characters, with conflicts arising on a daily basis. In spite of that, Kid and Killer had been childhood friends since they were young. At some point Kid and Killer became close friends with a girl called Victoria S. (Shirton) Doruyanaika, who became their first crush for the both of them. This character was previously mentioned and talked about in the Volumes 87 and 98 SBS. You can read those previous SBS answers here.

However, one day Victoria was killed by the gang ruling the country. This drove Kid so mad that he united the four gangs from the four districts, and led a coup d'état alongside Killer, Heat, and Wire to take down the criminal gang from power, overthrowing the current rule. After that event, Kid told the others that he "didn't want to live in such a confined world", so he formed a pirate crew with the four of them and set out the sea, naming their ship the "Victoria Punk" in Victoria's memory.

Once One Piece ends, there is way more than enough potential material for Boruto-esque continuations and side stories. Just the different routes the other Worst Geners took through the Grand Line are enough for another decade of stories if someone wanted it.

That's the nice thing about OP unlike a lot of other shonen manga - the world does not just revolve around the Strawhats. All sorts of things happen behind the scenes are there are stories and histories everywhere. Others, say like DB (one of the worst offenders imo), are basically dead worlds outside the MCs.

They could also do a prequel with Garps story!!

Sabo, Law and Kid stories!! Dragon too!

I suppose it could be interesting to see the Marines and their view of things, even if their adventures would be more regimented and restricted. From Garp's side, it would be worth it. Any other character from the Navy and I'd be out. But if Oda did decide to create a prequel after One Piece ends, the perfect way to go about it would be through Garp considering all the angles we'd see the world and the story from

Can't lie here, was wiping away a tear or two forming in my eyes while reading over some of chapter 1,098

Bartholomew Kuma is such a good dude. Something enormous is about to happen at Egghead. Kuma and the Straw Hats (probably Luffy) are about to pull a stunt that might trigger the Final War to be set into motion

To know that Jewelry Bonney is only a kid, terminally ill, fighting this hard on behalf of her family and risking her life isn't going to sit well with Nami/Luffy/Sanji. The entire crew tbh, but I believe those pirates will be the most enraged. Saturn might get viciously taken out by one of those three SHs

Don't forget Kuma, it's still his story.

He's heading to Egghead and likely there to take down Saturn to save Bonney one last time and final reunion. Also help Luffy recover? Possibly Luffy to fight Saturn too?

One thing seems certain. Many are going to die very soon. Not sure how there could be any other way. I know Saturn is there, 9 Vice Admirals are there. Kizaru is even present. But there is a chance Imu is watching and decides to nuke the entire island just like Kingdom of Lulusia. Just imagine if Luffy lost even one ally or even just one nakama here at Egghead. It would mean war. He would go totally berserk. Luffy would wage war and set his sails to Mary Geoise immediately

They say that Straw Hat Luffy trapped himself inside of Egghead in the headlines. And that this would become the place of an infamous incident. What is about to happen? I have no way of knowing, but someone or some thing is about to step up and do something drastic I feel

Could it be that Kuma arrives to Egghead, somehow his programming recognizes the Sunny and propels the SHs and his daughter away from the stratum and then orders Franky to shoot him causing a massive self-destruction bomb to go off? That is my wild shot in the dark, which will likely be nowhere near to what actually takes place lol

Interesting but unlikely!

only death would likely be Kuma or Saturn or both. Kizaru is likely down for the count because Egghead is nearing the end of arc? Any major war with WG will be after obtaining the One Piece. The Wag will just keep sending anyone they could to stop Straw Hats from reaching One Piece. There's too much left Elbaph before Laughtale. Blackbeard? Sabo/Vivi/Cobra mystery - Revolutionary alliance with Straw Hats? After obtaining One Piece then gather the weapons Poseidon and open Wano for Pluton

All that said there maybe be at least 5 or more years 😂

You just can't beat that lol, what a fun banquet. Absolutely hilarious when Luffy almost devours Chopper in that episode lmao

I rewatched Alabasta not so far back and it is great. Greater than I gave it credit for in the past. And I sort of believe that when I read Alabasta for the first time via the manga volumes that I'll regard it even higher

It's definitely one of the greatest, if not the greatest, desert adventures I've come across in fiction

We have until January 17th before the next chapter comes out, so I have these two questions in mind

1) How powerful is Kuma

2) Is he about to take out Saturn in one punch or possibly self destruct while Saturn is stunned or down for the count?

This is a weird af decision to make tbh.
I believe it's a sound decision, business and legacy both considered if you think about it. Consider the timing as well; One Piece is trending every few months, the live action brought a lot of attention to new eyes coming from the more casual viewers out there, the manga and anime are now at their height. This new revamped anime is going to allow another angle, excellent animation and a slightly different direction. From what I gather, it's the same story but we get to see the beginnings slightly reimagined and with better animation right?

Also updated to full HD. If you watch some arcs with flashbacks. They had the 3:4 ratio unlike the more recent arcs where they redid flashbacks to 16:9 ratio.

The show dragged, also too many dead still frames and stretch out episodes. This was really apparent to me when I re watched the full 1000+ episodes.

Thai would definitely tightened up the episodes and likely trimmed down to maybe 1/2 the episodes of current 1000+ episodes.

Even though the original anime started out in 1999 it's got that nostalgia on its side. I could never put one above the original just like the original Ocarina of Time or Majora's Mask cannot be topped in any of their remakes. I wanna see what they do with the world building, as well as the adventuring. The fights will be great as usual, especially with the new updated animation style. To me, it's a timeless story. So if it's retold again I'd like to, at some point, see what they have imagined for the new style of storytelling they'll be using. Some of my favorite moments in the entire show are the adventure portions. Especially when the Straw Hats are puzzled, worried, trying to put their heads together and make sense of what's going on around them. I think the OST and the teamwork make it great. The crew so resourceful that if they all communicate then typically a sound plan to go by is drawn up

I don't think Kuma is going to kill Saturn (yes, I am expecting him to die) by himself. Oda Chekov's weakpoint'd his head for a reason. I think he will do a lot of damage to Saturn (probably use his push powers to make him vulnerabld) and then most likely Kizaru will attack Saturn.

I'm interested in what Saturn meant when he said Bonney had not been affected by Nika yet (Goku ARR site translation). Makes me wonder if Luffy can buff/alter other Devil Fruits and people similar to Bonney's distortion power.

I think it is important that Saturn acted to bring Bonney back to reality to negate her distortion power. Makes me think that Imu is a god of reality (need for governments, physical laws, etc.) versus Nika being a god/devil of liberation (will and imagination). Maybe the Gorosei have the opposite of Devil Fruits?

Now that we know what a bastard Saturn is, I really wonder about how friendly Shanks was with the Gorosei. I don't remember who, but some YouTuber had a theory that Shanks may be a slave trader for the WG in exchange for certain islands being left alone. Makes you wonder who supplies slaves for Saturn's experiments?

I was kind of curious to see what your thoughts were on this news. I enjoyed the Live Action enough to think 'Hey maybe I should watch the anime' only to then find out that it's not actually on Netflix. Given some of the stuff we've seen from Netflix when it comes to animation, these remakes could be pretty good.

One Piece is one of the most engrossing stories of all time. I know now that the studio behind "The One Piece" is the one that handled "Attack on Titan" so it should be great. Netfilx is funding it. And Wit Studio is handling everything else. I'm looking forward to seeing what can be enhanced. It'll be a different experience, I don't know if they have what it takes to do better than Toei Animation but at the very least I expect that the detail and world building is going to be phenomenal. I fully expect the fights to improve as well. The only thing I wonder about is if they can match what Toei did with tone… One Piece bounces from one mood to another effortlessly in the original anime. In Attack on Titan, from what I've seen from season one, the tone was locked on heavily with suffocating themes such as doom, dismay, suffering, extreme doubt and worry, survival, strength. That will translate over well in the later parts of OP when major plot points begin to take off but the beginning is the complete opposite almost. One Piece and Attack on Titan have almost nothing in common so Wit Studio being selected comes as a bit of a surprise. To be completely honest, I doubt they were the ideal choice to take this project on but we'll see

That's a very interesting theory. I've never listened to it, but I may later tonight

I would still rewatch this, just to see a tighten up version. As stated above, current show is too stretched out. Currently it definitely was a tough rewatch for me.

Then make One Piece version of DBZ Kai, clean up the video/audio source, fix the aspect ratio and remove all of the unnecessary filler. Maybe reanimate a scene or two like studios often do for Bluray releases.

A remake is wholly unnecessary. Netflix being involved could also have some very negative effects on the production, as they have with damn near every animated production they've been involved with.
