I didn't find an existing thread where this question fit, so I guess making this one will ultimately help everyone in the future :>

Here's my problem: I want to get rid of my TV. No big monitor in my appartment anymore. However, I still would like to have a way to watch something with a bigger image at times, be it a movie or playing a video game. I looked into beamers, but those are stupidly expensive. Is there any other area of "displaying device" that I'm completely unaware of? I guess getting an Oculus Quest/VR headset would be another option. But is there anything else?

Thanks!

A Rift is all well and good until you have someone round to watch stuff with you. Can't share a headset. Honestly, stick with the TV. A projector for instance is no use in daylight. You want a device to display video - sounds like a TV to me, so just use a TV.

I did an OT about buying shit and decision making:

So you don't want a big screen in your place anymore but you want to still be able to view things on a big screen. That's gonna be a tough one lol

Seriously though, is there a big difference to you whether there's a large screen in the room or if there's a big blank wall space dedicated to using a projector? I wanted a projector at one point too. But getting one that's good for gaming and then coming up with solutions for blackout blinds and mounting the projector high up on the back side of the room and stuff just sounded like too much of a headache compared to just using....a TV.

A short throw projector maybe? If you're looking more for something to keep for the odd use rather than a primary way to view media, you don't need to go for support high res expensive ones, and when not in use it can go in the cupboard.

Good as that thread is, it's more a case of a 'what have you bought?' than 'give me advice please!'.

I realize that it's an odd question, "I want a big picture but not a big screen", lol. I just wondered if there's some device category that I'm completely unaware of :>

Are the tablet-like screens that let you plugin your PC and video game console? Basically, a, say, 22 inch screen that's super flat and that you can put away quickly after use? Or is that not a thing?

Can you plug in a video game console to an Oculus Quest btw? Would be awesome to play a game on the virtual cinema-mode.

Edit: I searched and the Lenovo Yoga Pad Pro seems to be the only tablet with HDMI In. But without 3.5inch audio out and not that cheap really ((500 bucks). Bummer.

You can get portable monitors, about 13-16 inches, designed for multi monitor use with laptops.

I don't give a toss what you intended, that's not what the thread was used for, so a seperate, more focused thread is going to get more eyes on.

Bloody uncultured foreigners. Go suck of your local EU overlord, shitty left wing government cuck or CCP lapdog, and I hope you have a happy new year too, mate!

Real talk? If you have to ask, you don't really want it or need it

Think with your wallet and you'll never go wrong
