It gets said every time, but damn, I can't believe these guys are still at it. I keep expecting them to release some new game we didn't know they were making on a new engine that solve some of the rough edges going on with this one.

I really want to like this game but its just too much menu fiddling and walking around just farming resources to be very interesting for me. I always get hyped for these trailers and then pick the game back up for about an hour before I get bored again.

You really gotta have something you are working towards, and you can't get sucked into being on one planet for too long. NMS's strength is also its undoing. It's neat that a game can generate 1000s of worlds, but in so doing it also loses any meaning. What's on that planet?? Who gives a rip. It's procedurally generated. There is nothing of meaning or consequence on that planet or any other planet. You're not going to stumble across any meaningful alien civlizations.

Until or unless they correct for this, I kind of go into the game with the mindset that I may trigger a neat random event or happen into a neat starship. There is more meaning to the stars than the planets. And the outpost building is cool.

I'm torn between whether I like NMS more or Starfield, because at least Starfield has some cohesion.

Its been a while but the last time I played I went down to a planet to try and find a resource that was listed as available, then spent all my fuel trying to locate it, then couldn't find the material needed to leave the planet.

The whole ordeal really soured my attitude toward the game and I haven't picked it up since.

You know, I've been waiting to get back into playing this game, because a particularly nice mod caught my attention, and has suddenly stopped getting officially updated after the Omega update.

The mod was Better Planet Generation. It focused on breaking up the monotony of the planet generation, add biome varieties, microbiomes...

Worlds Update, you say? Hmmm....

The amount of free stuff, from QoL to just about everything else they have added to No Man's Sky is mind boggling. Hello Games with one if the biggest turnarounds of a deeply flawed game yet, though Final Fantasy XIV will likely hold onto that as it passed WoW and kept Square Enix from bankruptcy, again while very likely allowing the following games to see the light of day:

Bravely Default 2
Chrono Trigger Patching on PC
Chrono Cross HD
Dragon Quest XI S: Echos of an Illusive Age
Dragon Quest Builders Remaster
Dragon Quest Builders 2
Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster
Final Fantasy II Pixel Remaster
Fina Fantasy III Pixel Remaster
Final Fantasy IV Pixel Remaster
Final Fantasy V Pixel Remaster
Final Fantasy VI Pixel Remaster
Final Fantasy VII: Remake
Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth
Final Fantasy VIII HD Remaster
Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster
Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age
Final Fantasy XVI
Final Fantasy Origins: Stranger of Paradise
The World Ends with You Remix
NEO: The World Ends with You
Nier: Automata (and evetually patching on PC)
Nier: Replicant
Kingdom Hearts Collection
Octopath Traveler
Octopath Traveler II
Romancing SaGa 2 Remaster
Romancing SaGa 3 Remaster
Romancing SaGa: Minstrel Song Remaster
SaGa: Scarlet Grace Ambitions
SaGa: Frontier Remaster
SaGa: Emerald Beyond
Sand Land
Star Ocean The Divine Force (decent enough and good enough reception to greenlight Star Ocean 2 Remake)
Star Ocean The Second Story R
Tactics Orge: Reborn
Trials of Mana: HD Remake
Triangle Strategy

2024 Slated,:
Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake
NEO Fantasian (Publishing for the Father of Final Fantasy)
Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven
Visions of Mana

2025 Slated:
Dragon Quest I-II HD-2D Remake

On the Horizon:
Dragon Quest XII: The Flames of Fate
Final Fantasy VII: Part Three ???
Kingdom Hearts 4

Rumored:
Final Fantasy IX Remake
Final Fantasy Tactics Remake

Actually hoping Bethseda takes notes for overhauling Starfield from No Mans Sky, but very different situation, and well Bethesda is Bethseda.

Well, did anybody take this latest update for a spin yet? I re-downloaded yesterday but my wife and I have been playing Terraria together in the evenings, so I haven't tried it out yet.

I've just started a new game (due to... peculiarities of the 'update' process) so I can't say how much has changed for certain. The weird rocks and plants I have on this planet all seem new to me, but that isn't saying much. :p

Wow. Sean and the rest of the Hello Games team have come so far and delivered so much since the initial *rocky* launch back in the year of our lord 2016.

The insane part is it is all still free, I realise that NMS isn't for everyone, but by 2.0 it was kind of redeemed itself with MP in and now we are on 5.0

Absolute insanity. This latest update is bringing tech they've developed for Light No Fire, into the game according to Sean's Deep Dive.

Being able to find and travel to the world of Light No Fire through No Mans Sky would be a contender for one of the most insane things ever done in the history of gaming.

Ok look.....I've reinstalled this game a dozen times every time under the pretense that "we've updated the game like it's supposed to be" and then the experience I find is like replaying the sims new DLC pack.....it's the same shitty game EVERY TIME.

I have so much disdain for this fucking game just because they keep putting more lipstick on a pig.....here we go again

....it does look kinda pretty

blah they bamboozled me again I'm downloading it

Visuals and UI significantly improved to the point it might be fun just checking out planets. Doesn't feel as soulless as it originally did. Actually impressed with it this time around.

Well this was obvious from the first seconds of the trailer. They're using what they've been learning/working on with light no fire which I'm really hyped for since it will be just one big planet instead.

it's so cool what they've done, but I always have to ask… is it fun yet? Cause I played 2.0 and it was still just a fetch quest game that had nothing to keep you motivated to move forward, no carrot, just a constant reward less grind.

I mean... fundamentally, aren't these games always pointless? They're not meant to end, even if you "beat" them. They're always an unproductive waste of time in pursuit of entertainment.

The relatively short while I played it, little bit before the Omega update, it seemed okay in that role. I got to the point of managing fleet missions and a planetside settlement. The inventory limits are absurdly frustrating, easily rivaling Terraria just because how many different things there are. But there are many different missions to tackle, and I don't think I got anywhere near the full extent of them.

I also play on a pirated version, so whatever additional functionality there is with the exploration mechanics and multiplayer missions from the Anomaly is absolutely lost on me. The recent additions from the Omega update I also haven't yet seen.

I'd say it's pretty neat. It's got some story missions to drive you forward, and from what I read the game even has extra content after you get some way through those. And in the interim it's your standard crafting-exploration-looting game.

They say they have a really nice PS5 Pro patch going. I wanna see how well it performs in VR now. It was just a little too choppy for me before in some spots.

The Normandy expedition is back for the next 2 weeks

oh and btw, they dropped cross saves today between every platform

Yeah I got the Normandy when they had it as a reward during one of the Xmas reruns. Pretty fun expedition tbh. It's very cool Frigate as well.
