Nintendo has sent out a new survey to players asking them about the various RPG series starring Mario.

The survey, which has been shared on Reddit and social media but was also received by VGC, has been sent to specific MyNintendo users in Europe.

It opens by asking players if they have heard of the Paper Mario, Mario & Luigi or Super Mario RPG series, and asks what their experience is with them.

After asking players which games in the series they've played, and which is their absolute favourite, the survey then goes into detail on what exactly they do and don't like about Mario RPG titles.

It then asks players if they like meeting new characters in these game (such as Geno or Mallow from Super Mario RPG), or whether they prefer having familiar characters from the Mario series. It also asks whether they like familiar characters to behave in an RPG setting like they normally would, or behave in an unexpected way.

The survey also asks players whether they prefer levelling up their characters and gaining experience points, or by improving their character in a different way such as picking up gear or just reaching milestones in the story.

It then ends by asking for feedback on last year's Super Mario RPG remake and 2020's Paper Mario: The Origami King (if they've played them) and whether they're looking forward to the upcoming Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door remaster.

It's not clear whether Nintendo is simply trying to gauge the feeling towards Mario RPG games among today's players (or even specifically in Europe), or whether it's gaining user feedback on what is and isn't popular before starting a new RPG project.

The last Paper Mario game was Paper Mario: The Origami King, which was released on Switch in 2020.

The last Mario & Luigi RPG was a remake of Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story for the 3DS, after which developer AlphaDream went bankrupt.

I've mentioned this before but the ultimate Nintendo game would be a Nintendo all-stars RPG with new and familiar characters from various different Nintendo worlds. Hopefully we get to play a game like that someday.

I usually never see those surveys, but my overall thoughts on Mario RPGs are that they have the most potential of any RPG series if Nintendo would just be realistic and become serious about these games

How many Mario RPGs do we have? The answer is not enough. I can practically list them all without thought they are so few

SMRPG
Paper Mario
M&L: SS
TTYD
M&L: Partners in Time
M&L: Bowsers Inside Story

Six true RPGs with Mario and the others. Only six. The rest are watered down and not true RPGs. We need more true Mario RPGs and none of that mediocre gimmick trash they want to keep peddling with their quirky (yet boring) battle systems and minimal items and inventory
