Thread: Nintendo Direct: Nintendo Switch 2
My theory is that games are $80 due to them improving the taste of the cartridge. Looks like that has been debunked.

Damn Nintendo! My kid could starve to death because they can't eat your cartridges! They should sell cartridges without the bad taste for a lower price!

I think it will be more powerful than a ps4. It has more ram and a more modern GPU. Series S the cpu will give it an edge but again more RAM and better GPU. I think the gap will be close but the Series S will probably edge it out slightly.
I can't imagine prime 4 would be able to run 120 or 4k60 on the ps4 or the pro.
If devs develop for the Switch 2 they will probably be able to squeeze more out of it than just downgrading Series X games to the series s
Outlaws will be very interesting since it's not a cross gen game and I don't know if it would have run on any ps4 family system. I am sure there will be cuts so it won't be ps5 level but will be interesting to see

If they are confident launching with Cyberpunk 2077 then it will hopefully be a decent level.

I have concerns for sure but I would say the real appeal of these games on Switch is for the handheld mode.

How well does a game like Outlaws run on Steam Deck? I think that would be the real comparison to see.

I think in docked switch has more power than the deck. In handheld it might go to the deck
Saw an interview with cdpr and they said cyberpunk is running 1080p in dock and 720/1080 in handheld

I'm thinking more not what it's capable of and more what Nintendo does for a free upgrade. If Zelda is higher frames and upgraded res (and a phone app) as played i have to imagine going to 4k wouldn't be free.
They could 100% put Mario at 4k60 just question is why wouldn't Nintendo charge for it ? I guess we need more details on what these free upgrades are.

Is that confirmed on Nintendo website or something?

No, it's what I'm hearing from some people who are usually right. They're not right every time but a lot of times they are. I thought they got DK wrong and here he is finally just like they said. DK game, 3D, and seemingly not DKC. New art style.

I think something huge is coming for the next Super Mario game. My gut just tells me it's Super Mario Odyssey 2 because the game sold amazingly well despite being mostly filler. That, and they can go anywhere with the worlds and it fits the theme. Mario can go anywhere and the level design and worlds he can travel to have no limits if they go with the sequel. All they have to do is tighten up the collect-a-thon and it's going to be immediate contender for GOTY and possibly a top 25 video game of all time. Super Mario Odyssey had everything, but the problems of that game prohibits it from being an all-time great imo. A sequel would make a lot of sense
Alongside Mario Kart World, maybe a new Smash Brothers-

How about a different massive crossover?

Nintendo Kingdom Hearts like JRPG and premise featuring Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Fire Emblem, Xenoblade ect.

Can't wait to see what Monolith Soft has managed with these Switch 2 limitations given what they achieved on the Wii, New 3DS, Wii U and Switch. Working on a Nintendo console has to be one of the most restructive limitations in the entire videogame consoles/PC market. No wonder they are so damn good at getting every single bit of performance and game design out of them!

Well they lost at least one customer.

It's capable of native 4k on that game assuming prime 4 is native 4k and not "4k" output but like 1440p or something native.

Possibly 4k-1800p dynamic for Mario. Because Odyssey is 900p dynamic, prime remastered is 900p so 4k > 900p would make sense.

All academic, but definitely will be higher than 1080p and fix the image softness.

Is the Switch more powerful than a Series S?

Damn Nintendo is greedy

They sell what the market will bear. Sony and Microsoft wish they could charge full pop for 8 year old games, but they can't because they don't make games that sell 80 or 100 million copies. Why do you think GTA6is gonna super expensive? Because they know the market will pay it.

Dude needs some cheese to go with his whine. I don't see him whining about Sony killing their Greatest Hits line right when they raised game prices to $70… they are pricing what the market will bear. "These companies aren't your friend." No shit, dummy. They're all trying to figure out how to maximize profits first, did anyone really believe this is a hobby for them? LMAO.

On top of that, his whole argument is bullshit. The game was always $70 and the DLC was always $20. The DLC is optional. By that rationale, every game ever made that got substantial DLC cost $90. It's a ridiculous argument. I'm not even that big of a BotW fan, but these complaints are just LOL.

Yea that's pretty insane that the dlc isn't included on the cart at the price.

One thing I think needs to be pointed out is no one is saying Nintendo ISN'T being greedy, we are just saying they are allowed to be greedy and the market will either reward or punish them. Gamers will be gamers and I'm reminded of the call of duty dedicated server boycott group.

I think it sucks but it creates an odd value proposition. So TOTK has no DLC but the Switch 2 edition cost the same. Also if you just upgrade then you don't get the DLC but you paid the same price as someone who bought the whole new edition.
They never said it was a game of the year just as upgrade to visuals so I never got the impression it included the DLC.
Also clearly they want people to get NSO and expansion pack. For 50$ you get BOTW TOTK upgrades the DLC and then online NSO GameCube etc....
So ya it sucks it's not a game of the year edition with all the upgrades. It's very much 2 steps forward 1 step back situation.
Honestly fell like they should have just made both games part of the free upgrades with stable 60 fps and called it a day and then put out a "remastered" version of just BOTW.

Sure, Nintendo can charge 90 bucks for an 8 year old game. But do they HAVE to fuck their fans? "Well, if the market will pay it...". Yes, great, but do they NEED to fuck us?

The shit they are pulling with this rollout is BEYOND Ubisoft, Activision, and EA. They said, "Oh, you think you fuck your fans, watch what we can do to ours.". And people here defend it!!

Fucking variable pricing, a God damn 2003 web cam, 5 fps video on chat, empty game cases, 90 dollar REGULAR controllers, paid tutorial, a confusing as FUCK upgrade system, a HORRENDOUS launch lineup. WTF?!!

But guys, Mario Kart World is good so you SHOULD pay 80 bucks, and you will....right? So, Donkey Kong sells for less, so does that mean it's not as good? Well, no, it just means it doesn't sell as well. Ok, so if it does sell, you'll raise the price? Yes. Nintendo is God!

Congratulations Nintendo fans, your favorite company is now the poster child for corporate greed. You are now EA, Activision, Ubisoft rolled into one. And don't you fucking DARE try to deny it. You better embrace it!! The days of "Nintendo is just the little Bing Bing Wahoo company that succeeds against the big ol bads" is long fucking gone.

Fully agree with this take. This shit's gonna be an inferno.

I just hope there will be some kind of opportunity for the hardcore fans to get a pre-order. Going to try to get one the day of its release even if I have to tip 8,000%

I honestly think this was delayed just so they could flood the market and prevent it from becoming a shit show. I hope I'm right about this.

Pre-orders are definitely going to be gone in the blink of an eye. As a fan who is really hoping to get one the very first day, I have a feeling even all the efforts to do that might be in vain. I think the demand is absurdly high for NS2 right now and it'll only get 'worse' as we draw closer towards the release date. My main question is though, how long will fans have to wait for the second wave of NS2 consoles if we miss the first opportunity to purchase one?

That logic is what will make this thing super hot. What will a post-tariff one cost you down the road? So, the first wave and everything that follows for a while will be gone immediately.

Yup. Nintendo is playing the game within the game right now. Seems like they've excelled there as well, outside of having a great console and many great games on the way. Nintendo has been obliterating the competition for the past 8 years. No reason to think because it's time for a shift in the right direction that they wont continue to kill it. That's why I think pre-orders are going to be difficult to place for casual gamers and even those of us who will be mashing F5 nonstop. Just get the feeling that it'll be tough and that the NS2 sales are going to erupt in 2025 despite the economy being shaky. It has a lot to do with Mario Kart World as well. Perfect game to open with. Especially with this one… 24 players in the same race… Amazing gameplay ahead

Anyone know if the switch 1 would work in the switch 2 dock? Best I can see is a random forum poster saying customer support said no.

I'd like to hack my OG switch and try out a bunch of games I have no intention of paying full price for. It would be nice to only deal with 1 dock.

I have no way of knowing, but my expectation is no. For one the 2's dock is physically wider, its edges would be halfway into the 1's sticks if you tried to dock it.

The power cable doesn't work so I am going to assume no. Also as said the dock is a different size.
But since it's just a USB to HDMI connection maybe.

It'll depend on the notches or placement of usb-c port. But I would not recommend, since the Switch 2 Dock will likely draw more power than the Switch 1 can handle.
