Nintendo Switch Pro referenced in OLED manufacturer earnings call; OLED display chosen for its higher contrast ratio and faster response times

The Nintendo Switch Pro has been namechecked in a Universal Display Corporation earnings call. According to UDI's CEO, Nintendo has chosen a display for its next handheld console, which would be a significant upgrade over the displays found in current models.

I'm going to be honest I did a lot of gaming on my Switch the past year and this upgrade has been a long time coming, hopefully we get a bit more than a screen upgrade but this is a good start on a refreshed model

Definitely, hopefully we see more than a screen upgrade but it's a very good much needed start

SInce I am an adult and dumb I tend to get most new hardware at this point so I will likely upgrade. Apparently launch switches hold their value a bit more as well due to some hacking thing so I can probably get a good chunk for it.

Pretty much, it's been a while for any significant upgrade but this would definitely be reason enough for me to purchase.

Most games I am fine with the lower rez, even on my 77 oled it doesnt bother me that much, but frame rates dipping below 30 drive me nuts. I am hoping the CPU gets a good bump.

I agree. Resolution is relatively unimportant compared to a stable frame rate and good artistic design.

I am looking forward to the upgraded Switch. I find it hard to get excited about it though since who knows how many months or years it will take to be able to buy one.

I have a feeling we might see it sometime this year, hopefully around the holiday's.

Agree with that. I am just wondering in what year I will be able to buy one after seeing what people are going through now for PS5/XBSX.

I've been eagerly waiting for a Switch revision for a while now. I almost jumped on the slightly modified APU, but held off since it barely changed performance. If this ever actually drops, I'll be all over it.

Totally. I am super excited for the HW revision and the games it might bring... but no way do I want to jump through a million hoops to get one. Despite no launch date/price/quantity I have already come to terms that I probably wont get one at launch. Would be the first Nintendo console/handheld since the SNES that I didnt get on launch day.
