On April 8 2024 (ie today - as of the making of this episode) , all Nintendo Network online services for the Nintendo Wii U and Nintendo 3DS will be shut down, but it does not mean you don't need to stop playing online games. This is all thanks to Pretendo - the community developed Nintendo Network online replacement which is free and open source for everyone to enjoy. All you need is a hacked 3ds or WiiU and about 30 minutes of your time to get set up. In today's episode we take a closer look at the Pretendo service and its features. Please Enjoy!

I wish there was a public domain clause or something of the nature for old consoles. The ecosystem that could be created for EOL consoles would be insane if OEMs would give approval.

That would require Nintendo to not be fucking bitches about their older hardware which is impossible.

Meanwhile, slightly unrelated but similar news, I just found out there'll be a PS4 jailbreak talk on May 30-31st presented by a known hacker, in which his piece is approved by Sony to discuss and reveal his newest exploit for PS4, shortly after that talk we should be able to apply his findings and jailbreak PS4s that are up to pretty recent firmware. I can't wait to get back to PS4 jailbreaking. A potential bonus is the same exploit works on PS5 so there's a chance we could get a proper jailbreak there too which would be huge, but don't hold your breath on that one.

Very cool. I donated to the patreon for Pretendo for a long while, never really followed it though. Miiverse is still the best social platform when it comes to consoles. Shame we'll probably never see anything like it again (officially).
