Thread: Mortal Kombat 1 |OT| Once Upon a Time
Official Thread
I'm about half way through the story. Loving it as much as the last game. It's noticeably easier than MK9, MK10 and MK11. Not a bad thing and I'm only playing on medium. If I wanted to survive by the skin of my teeth I'd just turn it up to hard or whatever. Mk 9 was brutal in that regard, had a few 2vs1s and even a 3vs1 and a boss 2vs1 plus two incredibly hard battles against Shao Kahn.

But how ugly are the faces REALLY

Maybe it's because I've spent some story time with them all now but I think on the whole the men and women are treated equally with the look they were going for. Tanya was the only offensive one and she's miles better in final release. I asked my friend who has no stake in it and I said do you find the women good looking, average or ugly. He said Average, I'd agree.

Some interesting twists in chapter 11 onwards! This is pretty much a sequel to MK11 albeit only for the audience and two of the characters (so far).

I loved the twist about the "benefactor". Literally had goosebumps when Sindel was shown snippets of the previous timeline.

Only one proper death so far though, and even that sounds a bit debatable.

They trolled me hard with Cassie's Drone and then Johnny controlling it lol.

I haven't played enough to say if it's the best Mortal Kombat yet, but it's definitely the one that feels the most fun to play.

I love that they brought Reptile and Baraka into the story more. They are so much better when they are not just bad guy hench men, as in the other games.

Finished the story. I'd say it was on par with Mortal Kombat 11. It did seem like the stakes were less because despite the scale becoming massive, barely anyone died. The story takes a knock for that, but it is better in the long run in that half the roster won't be zombies or missing.

+ Titan Shaun Sung and Kitana from the original timeline
+ Reptile and Baraka fleshed out.... until they disappeared second half of the story, reminds me of Uncharted 3
+ All the stages were excellent
+ The battle of the Pyramid with hundreds of fighters each side was epic
+ Kameos of Jacqui & Takeda
+ The new smaller Earth Realm group worked. Quite daring to have 4 male core group in this day and age
+ Fighting Dark Raiden in his MK10/11 guise
+ Test your might mini games fun
+ All characters felt great to play as
+ Medium difficulty felt just right, but I'd consider going hard next time as I only lost once or twice

- Not enough death. Sindel isn't really dead "collecting her soul" and Titan Shang Sung from the original timeline doesn't feel as real, when we have his new version about
- Stinger did nothing for me. just silly.
- Why were all Shang Tsung's reinforcements at the end two characters combined?
- Reptile and Baraka done dirty second half of the story
- Feels like some of the season pass should be in the main game because Ermac, Quan Chi have huge parts
- Kotal got a one line "defeated" off screen
- Subzero story seems obviously saved for dlc. Scorpion and Sub deserved better.
- Final battles seemed rushed.

Invasions is alright so far. I liked the first couple of original Krypts, way back in the day. But given how they changed the experience of those in the last few games, I'm okay with having something different now.

I'm quickly unlocking lots of skins and accessories for Reptile, who I think I will try maining for the start.

The tutorial section is very nice for the game, it feels very fleshed out with lots of minor details covered. I feel like I've picked more up in this game than I have in previous games, and I've only covered the basic, attacking and kameo sections so far. There are many more sections to go.

Story was okay. They obviously do a great job with presenting these modes. I wasn't a big fan of the story that was told, but it did ebb and flow. It had good parts and points. I've always liked Shang and he was portrayed well, which I liked.

Overall I feel very positive about the game. With some MK games, I know straight away that I regret dipping my toes in. I don't feel that with this game. As somebody interested in leveling the hell up and unleashing some pain with a character or 2, everything feels very good.

I read that you can uninstall parts of the game (like the campaign for example, once you finish it) to save on storage space, is that true?

This is from the same source that leaks the roster I posted months ago and has a long history of being correct;

Story expansion is confirmed as well as the following characters;

Noob Saibot
Cyrax
Kotal/ He-man/ Conan
Ghostface
Unknown Girl
Jade
Cassie Cage
Kung Jin

Really happy to see Noob, Cyrax, Kotal, Jade and Cassie.

Xbox Series S: Dynamic 1440p/60fps (Common 1152~1080p)

Xbox Series X: Dynamic 2160p/60fps (Common 1944~1872p)

PS5: Dynamic 2160p/60fps (Common 1800~1728p)

- The consoles have a single display mode in Mortal Kombat 1 at 60fps with dynamic resolution and FSR.

- PS5 has a slightly lower average resolution than Xbox Series X.

- Xbox Series S has some minor cutbacks in some settings such as terrain geometry, post processing effects, ncps density, textures or shadows.

- PC has slight visual advantages thanks to better shadows and post-processing effects.

- Framerate capped at 60fps on all platforms. Ingame cinematics, menus and special movements are framerate capped at 30fps.

- Good PC performance. Without problems to achieve the 60fps in ultra in any graphic of the range 30/40.

- High visual level and solidity on all platforms. No matter where you play it, all are a good choice.

Xbox Series S: Dynamic 1440p/60fps (Common 1152~1080p)

Steam Deck: 800p FSR2 Quality | Low Settings

Nintendo Switch: Dynamic 900p/~60fps (Common 720-640p) | Handheld Dynamic 720p (Common 480p)

PS5: Dynamic 2160p/60fps (Common 1800~1728p)

- The consoles have a single display mode in Mortal Kombat 1 at 60fps with dynamic resolution and FSR.

- Xbox Series S has some minor cuts in some settings like terrain geometry, post processing effects, ncps density, textures or shadows with respect to PS5/XSX.

- Nintendo Switch has cutbacks in all visual aspects. Textures, geometry, lighting, animations, post-processing effects... etc.

- Framerate capped at 60fps on all platforms. Ingame cinematics, menus and special movements are framerate capped at 30fps.

- Switch aims to reach 60fps during combat, but it's a bit unstable.

- Steam Deck fails to reach 60fps even at the lowest settings. Therefore, I would recommend locking the refresh rate to 40hz on low or 30hz on Medium.

- The wait times to start fights on Switch are somewhat tedious at times.

- Overall, the gameplay experience is good on all platforms. However, if you have the opportunity to choose the Xbox Series, PS5 or PC version, I recommend these.

Tries a few games online. Some people are REALLY good. Like you'd think the game had been out months. One guy got me in a corner and pretty much took all my health before I could fight back.

Casual seems more even, but even then the ceiling is a lot higher than MK11 seemed to be. I was practicing Melinna tonight. She's got some nice teleport moves and excellent meter burn enhances. Still going to keep trying a few characters. To the games credit there's loads of characters I want to try out and experiment with.

HILARIOUS! When you piss off even the most zealous console fans around, you're doing something wrong.

Looks like a PSP game or something awful.

They needed to make their own port, with a different art style, this is retarded as is.

Reminds me of that shitty Chop Til You Drop port of Dead Rising on the Wii. God damn that was awful.

Game is released for everyone today. I think Mileena is going to be my main. Smoke is a fall back.

Love enhanced launchers where you can combo them in mid air.

My key is still not available.
Well, not that I'll be able to play until next week, but still ...

The deluxe edition was only available/playable for everyone 5pm UK time day of release. Its more thank likely same time here. Also that kind of explains why I thought the skills level was so high last night. Didn't consider the only people playing it were likely the enthusiasts.

From cdkeys?

Played up until end of Chapter 3:

Johnny Cage not having facial expressions is weird considering other characters seem to have them from what I can tell (?). Switch version looks very ugly and the video cutscenes stutter occasionally but the games more playable than I thought it would be I guess...

Really liked using Raiden and Johnny Cage. I didn't really like playing either of these characters in MK11 so I'm a bit surprised I found them fun to use here.

Got my key just now. I'm surprised the game is cool with Steam Deck. I might download it there, otherwise it will have to wait until next week.

There's a good sale on Steam Decks now. I tried to convince myself I needed one, but I just do very little traveling. Are you going to dive straight into the story or something else?

The Switch versions can be made to look half decent, but it takes a super passionate and well resourced team.

I'm suprised the PC port is as good as it is, since it wasn't handled by NRS.

Got my copy. Has a play disc and install disc...but the day one patch makes you download the entire game?

The fuck lol.

Played for half an hour on the SteamDeck. Seems it works alright on it, but I think it's running on 30fps so I'll just try out a few characters whilst away. Not a fan of under 60fps for fighting games. Feels a bit junky. Very playable though, I must admit.

I think Mileena is my main. I still have a lot to do though. Need to work on my Block punishes. Takes a while for all the special moves to just become second nature as well. Lui Kang and Smoke are also really good. Geras and Kitana seem poor on my playtesting.

I really enjoyed playing Mileena in MKX I recall. She was a beast.

That's too funny even IGN the biggest whores of all couldn't pad it out enough to get it to a 5, they gave the SWITCH version a 3! LOL so that's a 3 with their typical padding, it probably deserves a 2 or 1.
