Thread: More Playstation 5 Pro Specs Detailed (Insider Gaming)
yeah my money is this thing will cost $700 US
Sony have really been pushing the boundaries of pricing this gen

the need for the pro is even less that it was last gen considering there has only been 7 ps5 only titles released this generation so you will basically be playing ps3/ps4 title with a frame rate boost
and there will probably be paid ps5 pro patches so get ready to play Last of Us Remastered with a $10 ps5 pro patch

Yeah, could be that much. Hell, the Xbox One X was 500 when it released. For around 900, you can get a pretty damn decent gaming laptop with a 4070 that can output 1440p at ultra settings with 75 plus fps. This, to me, has been light years beyond consoles and I beat myself up for not going this route sooner than 5 months ago.

Not to mention most games are broken messes when they launch.

So now you upgrade and your games will still be half finished when you buy them.

It really feels like we didn't get any next gen games this gen. The only time games are "next gen" is when they use RT which adds nothing really.

I'm gonna say it,

4k gaming is a gimmick.

4K resolution suffers from the exact same problem as raytracing: games aren't designed for it, they're designed for the lowest common denominator, so in that sense you're right. There's real value in the extra pixels and real estate it brings to the table, though.

I was spoiled by 2160p at 120+ fps and have no desire to move backward. I want devs to get creative and make better use of the tools at their disposal instead of just throwing an endless stream of super-safe, story-driven, Press X to Win games at us.

Agree
Ray Tracing has not really added anything to gaming apart from making Nvidia/Amd richer

ive got a 4090 PC and i much prefer turning of ray tracing and playing with everything else maxed in 4k on my 266hz monitor

When Sony and Microsoft showed off RT, my impression was that the visual ray tracing on consoles might not be nearly as nice as a high-end PC solution BUT it would be leveraged for more realistic sound propogation, line of sight, and physics. Still waiting for a console game that puts these ideas to good use.

So haven't been following this, so not sure if Sony ever officially announced. But it is 100% real and coming. We got kits recently.

And I have to say they look slapped together. Nondescript black plastic box with two usb-c ports on the front. To which one is connected screen/input device that operated just like the screen on base PS5 kits. I am assuming it's just an early kit and future iterations will have the screen build in.

Side note, it reminds me of the early PS3 kits which had a long wired dongle for wireless on the controllers.

Came across this gem. Remember this next time this guy is a source on a rumor.

The ones we got look NOTHING like PS5 kits. Either he is making it up, or there are actually more advanced kits out there (doubt it since most were not disclosed until just recently, and I am talking the big dogs, EA, 2k, Activision) or he was actually told that the final RETAIL kit will have the same design as the PS5 and made the assumption that the dev kits would match.

A few outlets like Digital Foundry have also said the dev kits look identical to the regular PS5 one. I wonder if they were reporting from the same source?

Where do they say that? was it earlier in the video?

Edit: found it. Again its possible that other studios got a more mature kit...but I have my doubts. Especially when he says images have leaked....and then just shows a base PS5 kit.

2nd Edit: Just had a thought. Its possible the kits I saw are Test Kits and not Dev Kits. I do not have one, just saw them on a couple desks on my floor.

Yeah, I'd say you're probably right to be honest.

The only positive I can say is that third party studios do at least seem to put some effort into optimisation on consoles still, at least compared to PC. No where near enough or even as much as they used to, but it's shocking how bad so many current gen AAA games run on PC, over these last few years.

I agree but it's definitely not the fault of the hardware. Game developers are to blame.
