Thread: Metroid Dread announced for Switch
I wanted Metroid Prime 4... this looks... fine. I mean... Super Metroid is visually more pleasing to the eye than this to me but I'll always play another Metroid so long as it's really a Metroid game and not Other M or something.

Considering how bad their presser was until they showed this it really did save the show. The rest of the show could have been garbage and it still would have been "hey at least we're getting a new metroid game this year".

My most anticipated game and this is I just don't know.

The art style isn't doing it for me. Let down they went 2d. Nothing really remarkable about the trailer except the creepiness of the robot in the cinematic.

For all the hate Other M got for its story and characterization, the main problem was that it was a pretty average and generic action game underneath.

This TBH. The art style is bad, Shadow Complex was how many years ago? I do think the gameplay saves it though. I think it looks fun to play, and I haven't played a Metroid game since Prime 1 on the GC / Wii.

I skipped Samus Returns because I was already in Switch mode, but I'm definitely into this game, hopefully we'll get a demo.

Yeah, Shadow Complex looks dated now and that's what this looks like. It's a Metroid so I'll play it but I haven't gotten my reason to buy a Switch this year, I can wait for 2022, tbh.

A bit of a more in depth look at the game, the robo AI chasing you down and one hit kills gives me Alien Isolation vibes. Hopefully that cloak has a cooldown on it or something that prevents it from being OP when you get it.

Garbage. Nobody asked for this shovelware. They only used the old name to get people excited. Or am I supposed to believe this retards have been working on this for 15 fucking years?

It looks worse than the Super Nintendo iteration from an art standpoint. Also what's with all this cut-scene intrusion?
Watch the gameplay that I posted earlier. They're 3D-rendered environments in 2D gameplay but the art style and especially the shadowing is similar to the older games. You'll see different environments, alien enemies and a cool boss battle against Corpeus.

The footage you put up looks cleaner and better but it's still not my preferred art style for Metroid.

That's fair, arts subjective, I didn't like the Metroid 2 remake art, but this has really grown on me, probably due to being on Switch and not low Rez garbage 3ds

I'm very curious to see how the speed runners react to it. I watch super Metroid randomizes and stuff all the time and it's amazing how good that game is on a pro level.

This doesn't look like that will be possible.

Well, it looks fast now that the counters and free aim can be done on the move. So that is a possible benefit to speed runs, but speed runs also rely on the level design and little hacks of the gameplay. Can't tell that until the game is played.

It looks sort of like an inverse of Prime. Prime had ton of art wits and atmosphere, but suffered from slow movement. This is very fast looking while having no atmosphere.

Yeah. It has those blue hold walls that block you from wall jumping. The EMMY or whatever sections will hopefully be exploitable.
Who knows.

I'll just continue to watch oatsngoats and imagine him smashing my wife.

The level design and secondary mechanics will make or break it. Nintendo tends to polish their games a lot, so hopefully they succeed with this one.

To be honest looks quite impressive for running on switch.
