Thread: Metro Exodus EE - Trailer (PC, XSX, PS5)
I looked at the specs needed. Looks like with a 9700k and a 2070 Super ill be High 1080p 60. Booo. Im gonna see if I can get it to 1440p with some tweaks.

Hopefully they fixed the footsteps and the annoying amount of times you hear Artyom from NPCs.

Not bad, not bad. Interested in screenshots, tho, since fast-action video comparisons are too much for my eyes to really pick up on the details other than "yep, looks different."

Sheeeeeit upgrading on the 5 now

Bought day one and it hard crashed and deleted my save when I was six or so hours in. Walked away in rage never to touch again 😂

Just played about an hour and I am super impressed. The lighting is just so consistently impressive and I haven't even reached the open world areas yet.

Runs pretty great so far on my PC (i9 10850k, RTX 3080) totally maxed out at 4K with DLSS on Quality. It has dipped into the high 50s a couple of times so I might move DLSS to Balanced.

Looks absolutely incredible.

I just started a new game and am reminded why I didn't finish it.

Despite having a pure RT lighting pipeline which gets rid of all the nasty lighting inaccuracies in games, the devs get away with cheating the performance by having really low res textures and some of the oldest shaders I've ever seen. There is literally no hint of any complex physically-based shader. Complexity of RT is directly dependent on the shader used. The game doesn't look very appealing even with the lighting being fully RT.

What resolution does it render in on quality? 😊

Wow surprising to hear that mate, I thought the original game looked (and played amazing). Surely this version isn't worse?

I didn’t finish it originally because of the annoying foot steps 😂.

Fuck this. Uninstalling.

I hear you on the low-res textures, but I feel like the materials look pretty accurate for the most part. It's no Assassin's Creed: Unity in that regard, but still impressive to me.

Well, I can show some vids on what I"m talking about with the materials. Like compare this game's materials with materials in RE8 and you'll see the difference.

Does anyone know if I can use the save game from the normal version? Seeing how this is a while new game to download and install.

No, it's completely incompatible, unfortunately. They did allow you to choose to start from any Chapter, though.

Oh boy I made a mistake prejuding this new edition. I installed it once again and told myself to go past the early level of the game. Wow! The indeed did up the texture resolution and they remade the materials so they are physically based. The lighting is absolutely perfect for videogames! I finally feels good to walk around and the light behaves as it should. This is yet another true next-gen title.

FYI peeps!

The GI lighting is non-energy conserving and so the light bounces around with out a proper attenuation term (for every bounce, the light should fall off as part of the material will absorb some of the energy). In order to normalize this so that scenes aren't so bright, turn down your GAMMA to the lowest setting. This works extremely well on HDR displays and looks more plausible.

My monitors GAMMA or in game?

Guys, I can't stress enough how revamped this game is. It's a completely different looking game now and is officially ranked in my top most impressive looking games this generation. With proper PBR materials, higher resolution textures and completely accurate lighting, this is how a properly fully RT game should behave going forward. 4A really did something special here and I wonder which company will follow suit next.

Can't wait, stop hyping me, my graphics whore brain can't take it anymore :D
Need to change my damaged RAM today and then finally download the game later tonight.

Put in my old, slower RAM, but it's working now.

Hate that fucking long intro every time.
Why does applying the changes in the visuals menu take like two minutes?

And I can't select chapters. Maybe because I deleted the non RT version?

Anyway. Looking great, fully maxed with DLSS quality at around 60fps so far. Shit is impressive.

Yea, you can't get past that intro for some reason.

You blew away your saves. Bummer.

Yea, there is some parts so far (transparencies) that brings the FPS down to high 40s but most of the time I'm averaging in the low 50s-60.

Really excited to see how close the console versions get. I'm skeptical that ray tracing is anything more than a gimmick on PS5/XBX, but if they can pull this off at reasonable image quality and frame rate, then maybe it just comes down to how games are developed.

So this was lost in my weekend of RE Village. My past experiences with Exodus wasn’t that great. Was gifted it on Xbox One X and played it a bit on Gamepass for PC. Neither was impressive. The Xbox Version was just terrible when it came to controls. The PC version was better but it didn’t run very well even on a decent PC (9700k, 2070s, 32GB etc)

Some of my main issues with the game still linger here. Mostly in the Audio/Dialogue department.

Footstep audio being my main distraction. Slow walking and giving a small side step produces a ridiculous amount of Audible footstep sounds.

The other issues is the Dialogue. In the first few minutes of speaking in the game I heard Artyom 20 times in less than 2 minutes. That didn’t get any better. Most of it is super cringe as well.

Characters all talk at the same time during pivotal moments when you’re trying to hear the main part of the story. It’s just all layered all over each other and it’s super messy.

Now for the real meat and potatoes. Play this game! The lighting is the most amazing I’ve seen in a long time. When you’re in the dark area. You are REALLY in the dark area. I have an ips monitor and it gets so dark in those area you can barely see anything. But kick on a light and the game shines (pun intended). The flash light effects from NPCs are gorgeous. The light cascading in thru a crack in the subway as it bounces down the tunnel walls is utterly amazing. Really surprised at how good the lighting is.

The other thing is performance. In the tubes I get 144-165Fps. In open areas I’m seeing 110 average. Only time I’ve seen it drop to 90 was during the train battle scene between the two trains.

Running at 1440p. Medium Settings. RTX Max. Dlss Balanced. Everything else on. Decided to give up a bit on the graphics to keep the framerates up.

I think with the overhaul I can get past the issues I’ve had with the game in the past. The original two games had those issues and I finished them. But having a fully Ray traced game gives me more interest in playing this now.

I just finished a 2hr sprint in the game. I finally realize why at first I thought the game was so ugly. Having low res textures with as much detail as what these artists are doing killed the look and art direction. Now that they have the lighting being the most accurate of any game to date and the higher res 4k textures, I see the beauty of the art direction in this game. It has got to be the most detailed texturing I've seen yet. Here are some vids that capture what I"m talking about:

If they can’t, I’m really going to want that mid-gen refresh just for the ray tracing alone. This is the future. I am unambiguously convinced of that after seeing this game. The sooner we can get something close on consoles, the better.

Do keep in mind that a mid-gen refresh console probably still isn't going to have enough GPU bandwidth to run Metro EE like the 3080/3090 can. Those cards have Tensor cores in them for DLSS and AMD isn't going to have custom hardware for FXSS. A software solution will use up resources from the SMUs that will be busy rendering.

We'll see how much of a setback the console version of Metro EE is. Most people probably won't notice the difference between less rays being fired or the latency of the resolving rays whenever the renderer has to recompute the lighting. They may look very close to the untrained eye.

I also don't think many studios will be able to accomplish what 4A has this generation. There's only a few really smart talented teams out there. 4A is definitely at the top of the tech with graphics. If you take a look at all the other studios that have pushed out their latest RT games so far, none of them come to this degree. I thought that CDPR would be the first with their area lighting but they messed it up by integrating half-baked RT with rasterization rendering and it just doesn't look good. Capcom makes incredible materials but nearly every light source in RE8 is fake.

The lighting is very impressive. But man, there are still many ugly textures in that game. Like, really.

I've noticed that some textures are indeed still low res. It is what it is. They probably couldn't spend time on all of them being 4k. I can find some crappy textures in RE8 too. I was shocked to find them because most of them are done so well.

Just watched the trailer. Looks really good. I would assume the console versions aren't that close to the PC version though if you had a 3080 or 3090 considering the RT update ...

PC version looks amazing and runs great. Was anyone here able to check out the console versions?
