I like John Wick, good over the top action, cool set pieces, nice atmosphere. Feels a little like a graphic novel at times. Yes the story/world building is silly but gives it a bit of an interesting personality and separates it from run of the mill action films like Bourne or whatever.
I don't go watching John Wick expecting a deep character driven drama. I enjoy it for what it is and I will definitely watch the next film in the series as I've liked them all up to now. I can understand people not liking it or thinking it is silly but sometimes from posters I get a whiff of "thing is popular so I have to hate thing to show how cool, contrarian and edgy I am!".
As for the TV series, ehhh I feel that the world/experience of a John Wick adventure works best in concentrated bursts like we see in the films. I think going episodic and with a TV series budget would likely just get convoluted and melodramatic and stuck up its own ass. Maaaaaybe the first season might be ok and have an interesting atmosphere but by season 3 or whatever we will likely have had something like 20 times by that point that our heroes are trapped and should face death but are miraculously let go by the villains for some convoluted nonsense reason or deus ex machina escape. (See The Boys as an example)
Also expect bad guys to become good guys etc.. and the world to feel increasingly smaller and insular as time goes on and they shed the premise of the first season. Sorry I just don't have much faith in TV shows these days, not to even mention potential woke nonsense that they might try to force in.
As for Mel Gibson starring, I don't really have a problem with it. Guy said some fucked up shit but he has served his time in exile and should be allowed to work and live his life peacefully. He is also a pretty good actor and talented director so think he could carry the show for a while despite potential other flaws. The fact that him starring in this riles up the blue hairs is just icing on top.
