Straight to the chase: I'm tired of certain people at certain places always acting as if video game developers are some of the poorest people with the harshest work conditions that we MUST fight for and protect. Fuck that. For my pov, game developers are extremely privileged, well-earning people with a comfy sitting-in-a-char job and many benefits that enjoy the additional benefit of being able to later say "I worked on that game!". While there may occur issues within that work space that are less than ideal, I really hate how some people make it their agenda to protect and support these well-off people when so many jobs are so much worse and nobody gives a shit.
So, to make a start, the first three jobs that spring to mind that are significantly worse than developing video games:
- working at retail (always on your feet, dealing with nasty people, nobody respects you, low paying)
- mail man (low wage, outside no matter the weather, somewhat dangerous)
- baker (non-existent social life due to shit work hours, hard work, low pay, little respect)
- cook (similar to baker; even if you're a star cook, it's repetitive work with shit hours)
- etc
Feel free to add jobs to this list. :>
Let's feel sorry for literally anyone BUT game developers. Thank you.
