Thread: Kingdom Hearts IV Announce Trailer
That face off with the giant looked a lot like a reskinned version of the Cerberus fight from Final Fantasy XV. Given the lack of interest in using current gen hardware to make advancements in gameplay mechanics chances are it'll play a lot like it, too.

After playing Kingdom Hearts 3 which was just a buildup to Kingdom Hearts 4, I wouldn't be surprised if they pull it again and have some unresolved story plot slated for KH5. It's like Shenmue all over again. KH 1 and 2 were far more resolved on their own, with twice the amount of worlds as KH3. I'm not getting fooled again by SE this time.

Sora is just Noctis now. And of course the town looks like Shinjuku/Shibuya.

Fucking one-trick Pony Nomura.

KH3 killed the good will this series had built up with me. Was so bland and un-fun. Visually it was spectacular but the game was just a shitty interactive movie laced throughout some horrible gameplay and level design.

I loved KH/2 and would be down for another trip down Disney nostalgia lane, but I am not getting excited til I see some receipts to prove it.

Square Enix has reportedly said that the Kingdom Hearts 4 gameplay that debuted on Sunday will be upgraded to Unreal Engine 5 for the game's final release.

That's according to a Famitsu report from this weekend's Kingdom Hearts 20th anniversary event held in Tokyo, Japan.

According to the publication, the KH4 footage shown in its debut trailer is running real-time in Unreal Engine 4. However, the game's development team is currently testing Unreal Engine 5 in parallel, it's claimed.

"The full game will be made with Unreal Engine 5, and the quality of lighting and detail will be several levels higher," according to Famitsu.

It's claimed that Kingdom Hearts 4 is being developed by Square Enix's Osaka studio – the same team behind KH3 – led by co-director Yasushi Yasue.

At the same 20th Anniversary event, Kingdom Hearts series director Tetsuya Nomura is said to have revealed that he was considering creating a real game based on Verum Rex – a fictional video game featured in Kingdom Hearts 3's Toy Box world.

The fictional game is set in Quadratum, the same alternate world in which Kingdom Hearts 4 is set to take place.

Nomura reportedly told attendees on Sunday that he was at one point torn between creating a real Verum Rex game and Kingdom Hearts 4, but eventually settled on the latter because it would be difficult to make two console games in parallel.

According to Square Enix, Kingdom Hearts 4 will mark the beginning of an "epic new storyline" titled the 'Lost Master Arc.'

Players are introduced to the Quadratum, which Square Enix describes as "a large, expansive city set in a gorgeous, realistic world unlike anything ever seen before in the Kingdom Hearts series."

"We're thrilled to celebrate the series' 20th anniversary with the announcement of two new Kingdom Hears titles," said series brand manager, Ichiro Hazama, in a prepared statement.

"We'd like to thank the fans for all of their support over the years, and we can't wait for them to experience all that's to come for Sora."

A blink-and-you'll-miss-it tease in the newly-announced Kingdom Hearts 4 reveal trailer seems to hint at a Star Wars crossover.

Eagle-eyed fans have found what they think is the foot of an AT-ST walker - the chicken-legged tanks most famous from their appearance in Return of the Jedi.

Fittingly, this scene appears to be placed in a forest area - which looks very like the forest moon of Endor. Hey! Maybe this means Kingdom Hearts 4 will get Ewoks too? The AT-ST foot pops up briefly just after the 4:40 mark.

Fans have been lining up images of the object shown in the trailer with official images of the AT-ST - and yeah, there's definitely a similarity there.

KH3 was mediocre to me. I am dumb and will buy and play this because I am clutching onto nostalgia but mannnnnnn does this look like a Nomura ass Nomura game.

According to Square Enix, Kingdom Hearts 4 will mark the beginning of an "epic new storyline" titled the 'Lost Master Arc.'

They didn't finish the KH3 storyline and they are already announcing 4 will be the start of a new arc. Why is it so hard to have fulfilling endings? Bad Square Enix, I'm not paying 100s of dollars to not know what actually happens and be left on a cliffhanger. They'd better at least wrap up the black box storyline from number 3, they showed it at the start of the game and then left it to the post-finale cutscene to mention it again. SMH.

In an interview with Famitsu, Tetsuya Nomura was asked about Quadratum, the new world where the game is set.

Quadratum looks like the real world, and the debut trailer for Kingdom Hearts 4 shows sections that look like Shibuya in Tokyo.

However, as the trailer explains, Quadratum isn't the real world but is "similar to an afterworld".

In the new interview, Nomura confirmed that Shibuya is part of Quadratum, and that the room Sora wakes up in in the trailer is another area of Tokyo called Minami-Aoyama. "That room will be the base for the early part of the game," he revealed.

Discussing how Quadratum works as an alternative world, Nomura explained (translated by VGC): "From each of our perspectives, our perceptions change. In [mobile game] Kingdom Hearts Union χ, the Master of Masters said something along those lines.

"From Sora's perspective, Quadratum is an underworld, a fictional world that is different from reality. But from the point of view of the inhabitants on the Quadratum side, the world of Quadratum is reality, and the world where Sora and the others were is the other side, the fictional world.

"I think the theme of this project will be the contrast between those who are in such different positions."

Nomura was also asked about the scene in the trailer in which Goofy and Donald Duck are seen looking for Sora, and revealed that Sora's new realistic appearance may be a result of him being in Quadratum, and that he may not look like that for the entire game.

"Donald and Goofy are looking for clues about Sora in the original world," he explained. "All the real worlds before the title display [in the trailer] are all Quadratum segments and Sora will look realistic, but if he can return to the original world, he will look like Donald and Goofy with shaders like Donald and Goofy."
