Thread: Just had the best asymmetric multiplayer session with the Wii U I had in a long time
Hey Dpad! Since it's my birthday and my family was gathered up, I figured I'd set up my Wii U in the living room with some NintendoLand! It was well worth it! My siblings got into the flow of classic minigames from the NintendoLand like Mario Chase, Luigi's Ghost Mansion, the Animal Crossing one, and even a bit of the Zelda one too! It was really fun to teach them how to play and see them improve in such short amounts of time...they went from noobs to pros fairly quickly lol! That session of asymmetric multiplayer with them in NintendoLand was a real flashback to the glory days of the prime years of the Wii U, around 2013-2015 ish. They particularly enjoyed playing as the ghost in Luigi's Ghost Mansion but also appreciated other stuff like the controllers rumbling more the closer the ghost was to the players.

The Wii U is actually a great and misunderstood machine
This so much. I got mine in 2013 and it was worth every cent! Already had a few Wiimotes from the Wii days so I was basically good to go with multiplayer games like NintendoLand and many others. Me and my friends and others who played together understood the concepts because we taught eachother how to play and the appeal grew from there but I guess that kind of shared atmosphere of fun wasn't accurately reflected in commercials and such because you really had to be there to understand the appeal. It's such a shame...I doubt we will ever get such a zany machine ever again but it was worth it, will defend it to the grave as my favorite overall Nintendo system especially modded

Nintendo's last great console

Never liked Nintendoland though
NintendoLand is essential, if you haven't played it yet you should!

edit: I misread that was Never played NintendoLand...I re read it and saw you didn't like it, which you are entitled to hold that opinion as not everything is for everyone

I got my daughter hooked on Game&Wario last year. That game is such a gem. We laugh a lot while playing the Gamer mini game.

Wind Waker HD
Twilight Princess HD
Xenoblade Chronicles X
Monster Hunter Tri
Metroid Prime Trilogy

Even after all this time that's a pretty decent remaining lineup of exclusives with hundreds of potental hours.
That could be even nicer on the Switch, like say a hypothetical Xenoblade Chronicles X DE for example.

I never got round to Nintendoland, but it does seem like a game that highlights the strengths of the console. Definitely under-utilised and under appreciated. The good parts of it were lost and hidden behind and because of the "lol Nintendo failed", the poor naming, and the mistakes they made like making people rebuy the classic games.

Not at all related to OP, but I picked Twilight Princess HD back up recently and I've been having a good time with it (although it's not the best Zelda out there). The Wii U port is much better than the original for image quality and even though it's 30fps it's pretty smooth. I still remember being put off the original on GC because of the excessive softness.

I still maintain my position.

It emulates a lot of cool machines, it's also a Wii and Gamecube and the gamepad is great.
It's also made obsolete by the Switch which realized it's full potential and original plan which is a hybrid of a portable and a home console.

I still have mine hooked up since i still have games i haven't played or finished for both it and the Wii which i feel is the system with the more hidden gems which probably will never be ported to other systems especially the light gun games.

Does Switch have Game&Wario? No. Also, it uses two screens. It has not been made obsolete by Switch. Different concepts. Still I think your perspective is also true.
