If this is true, I had a feeling this might happen while playing Death Stranding.
You get someone to give you a blank check, help set up a studio, access to one of their most technically capable teams and engines, hire half of Hollywood... and you return to them with a niche, indie-style game mostly about traveling, delivery, and working together as a community.
(On a side note, I bet that connection theme has a whole new vibe after the lockdowns)
While I seriously applaud Kojima for his courage, and we need more of that thing, that's unfortunately not how making AAA games works.
I think that if Sony does this, it's stupid and short-sighted. You guide your creators, not cut them off at the first problem. Then again, maybe Kojima has another crazy idea, won't budge on it, and everyone else is clamoring to sign up, giving Sony no leverage in influencing it to become more mainstream friendly.
I guess we'll know when we see the game, which apparently shouldn't be too long.
