I don't know if it is just me but I really think the original Jak and Daxter, not the two sequels and car combat spin-off that came later, released early in the PS2's lifecycle is the best Naughty Dog game. It's actually my favorite game from a PlayStation studio. I liked it so much that I completed it to 100 percent when it originally released. It has a really great, relaxing atmosphere and music and I really liked how seamlessly you moved from one level to the next as it was open world.

It is also a really fun, addicting collect-a-thon with solid platforming. I would argue it's right up there with other classics in the genre like Super Mario 64 but Jak and Daxter is so smooth to play through. Every time you pick up a power cell feels so rewarding. I think back to how much fun I had playing this on the PS2 and revisiting it from time to time and it reminds me that big budget video games today (at least from Sony) have changed.

I miss the old PlayStation when their games were a little more like Nintendo while also offering unique experiences for an older audience. Nowadays it seems like Sony only really focus on creating games for an older audience. You have some outliers like Astro Bot and Ratchet & Clank but for the most part I don't see the same awe and wonder of adventure and exploration in new releases. Instead Naughty Dog will put out something like The Last of Us Part II that is dark and depressing.

Anyone else here play Jak and Daxter: The Precursor Legacy, either on the PS2 or when it was re-released on PS3 and PS Vita? What are your thoughts?

Got it from a thrift store but haven't played it yet, sounds like I'm in for a treat

I remember liking it a ton when it came out, but it's been so long since then that I don't remember anything about it. Maybe I smoked away the brain cells that were in charge of those memories or something. I remember Jak 2 much better, which I also liked a lot at the time, but obviously was a much different game.

I really need to get myself a new PS2 and soft mod it...

Liked it a lot back in the days. No idea how it holds up today though. Collectathons arent for me anymore.

Bought that shit day one on PS2. Was a really fun game (despite that hover bike BS). Definitely the high point for the series. Each sequel seemed like a dilution of the core gameplay.

Would love to see ND (or any PS Studio) reboot this IP. More platform and exploration focused.

It only is my second favourite Naughty Dog game (I prefer Crash 2), but it is the last one I consider good. Very solid choice.

I played it way back in the day and then picked it up again on PS3 a few years back and found it held up pretty well. I do agree the following two games left a lot to be desired. It made the series look sort of like a one hit wonder, but it was a pretty fantastic game. I wouldn't put it above uncharted 2 but I think it is their second best title.

Yeah, Fire Canyon was annoying. I would miss two balloons or fall down a chasm and it took some getting used to driving the hover bike.

I did like Jak 3 a little better than Jak II because it was easier (and the graphics looked great), so I was getting used to it but I still prefer the original.

It's definitely the best Jak. Collecting every orb was addictive and I think I got them all. Played the PS3 version.

I was enjoying this game while playing it again for the first time recently, but as sacrilegious as it might be to say, I found myself having more fun with Jak 2 (though 2 has some real cunty aspects lol).

Jak and Daxter felt so expansive at the time and leagues ahead of what Nintendo was doing with Super Mario Sunshine. Really helped inspire me to snag a pre-owned PS2 as a kid

It's an awesome, beautiful game. I even enjoyed Jak II and III even though they took vastly different directions. I'm playing Kena Bridge of Spirits now and it reminds me a lot of J&D.
