Thread: Is it just me or...

Am I crazy? I know it was bad last year but this seems overboard so far...

It does basically feel like if you're making a game with a new IP, it will have a female protagonist 90% of the time. Even long-running franchises are pandering with it like Gears and Ratchet.

Not that big of a deal in the end, but you can just see the meetings behind the scenes and how non-organic the choice was.

What is worst is their attitude like they did the world some kind of great service.

The fact that they have to bring it up and beat their chests about to even get a reaction from the larger gaming audience shows no one cared either way.

Only noticed it in the Rainbow Six Extraction trailer with the abundance of WAHMEN soldiers. Yeah, Earth's being invaded by alien parasites but please take notice of the stronk females taking charge!

I'm not opposed to female characters, but please don't sell your game on that alone.

It's sort of unimportant to me besides it feeling forced. People will vote with their wallets, industry will change based on that. Don't count on me, though, I must CONSOOM.

Having watched all 3 indie showcases yesterday (and Guerrilla Collectives last week) it does seem to be the default choice of your atypical indie Dev that a female protag is absolutely the way to go (closely followed by a woodland creature of some sort). I'm not outraged (ain't nobody got the time for that) and there are some great looking games in the works but I suspect even the indie devs themselves watching are beginning to realise that this standout move isn't so stand out.

It's mainly Ubisoft. While OP's "it was bad" is bad wording, it did feel too iyf yesterday during Ubisoft's conference. I have no issue with female protagonists, but Rainbow Six made me think: Are there actually any female squad captains/military leaders in active missions anyway? I'm no military expert at all, so maybe one of you conservatives can elaborate on how realistic or unrealistic it is for a woman to lead a squad in an active mission at the scene.

Wonder if we will see the legendary white male at Microsofts conference
