Thread: Indiana Jones and the Great Circle |OT| Fortune & Glory
I'm ready to mute the game when exploring. They think you're retarded. "Indy, pull the chain to open the door.". Motherfucker, it's literally been 5 seconds. Indy to himself "hmm, there seems to be a ledge up there I can use.". Shut the fuck up! SHUT UP!!!

"It's very dark in here." "Who turned out the lights". "You could use a light, Indy".

I hadn't noticed, cheers.

I hope people can appreciate how much of a difference full Path-tracing can give to a game. It's literally a generation ahead even over the games that still use ray-tracing but as an addon to rasterization. There are only 3 full PT games now: Indy, DD2 (PT mode) and AW2.

Of course some old games that got the RTX treatment like Quake 2 RTX or Portal RTX.

AW2 is using what I'd call Path Tracing light, because it has no path traced indirect shadows and some caveats that DF mentioned in their video. Cyberpunk is great if you mod out the fake light sources.

AND try to put skin and hair in the path-traced light loop.

I forgot the Quake RTX and Portal RTX but those games are using old assets and very simple.

Indy flopping is a huge surprise to me, and I really have nothing to offer that I think explains it. At times, I think it shows how unhealthy the market is. At others, I think maybe the brand was ruined by the woke Indy film last year and the preceding sphincter drop that was Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. I just can't say.

Seems like Xbox exclusive stuff just flops regardless of the quality. Not enough of a core base? Curious to see how well it does when it lands on Playstation

An 80s IP with little marketing and you can sub to Gamepass for a month to play it cheap. Busted stealth, bad combat and dumb AI. I am not suprised the game sold poorly. Outside of the tech and Indy vibe it is a bad videogame.

I played a few hours today and color me impressed. The graphics, gameplay, story and dialogue are all outstanding. I haven't played a game in a while that grabbed my attention quite like this one.

I'm surprised to hear it's flopping. Hopefully sales picked up, it would be awful if Microsoft closes Machine Games, especially after delivering an absolute banger.

MachineGames worked overtime to call a lot of people NAZI's who weren't during the promotion of New Colossus. I haven't forgot, because the left and BLM leaned into it for a number of years after. That combined with their other two flops and what Disney has done to the Indiana Jones IP, is where the Modern Audience lives.

I-am-not-surprised.gif

I think that's it. Only a small percentage of today's customers have even watched the original Indiana Jones movies. It's an old IP and those lost their pull in video gaming. Not even Star Wars has much pull.

And for me personally, Xbox kinda destroyed the value of their games. I don't want GamePass because I hate the Xbox app on PC. But it's like what 10 bucks to play it? When I see the 70€ price tag on Steam, it causes a hard "nope" reaction. MS just told me that the game is worth way less, I won't need more than a month to finish it, it's worth the price of that cheap subscription.

Ya it shouldn't be a surprise. Gaming audience is mainly 12 yo 30 year olds. Sorry they don't have attachment to a movie that came out like 40 years ago they weren't even born. For most of em that's grandpa's favourite movie.
Dial of Destiny bombed showing Indy doesn't have drawing power. Kingdom skull essentially killed the franchise. Raiders was 40 years ago. Its just not a popular ip.
Add in aside from graphics the game is straight out of 2005 there isn't a hook.
And you would have to be functionality retarded to pay 70$ for the 6 to 8 hour linear single player game when you can sub to GP for 15 or 20 bucks and finish the game over a weekend and cancel the sub.
And lastley XBOX is the least popular console so the audience was small. It's on steam but PC gamers have multi-player and MOBA games yo play.

Kind of sucks a bit since as far as I can tell the game isn't woke. Maybe the studio is but they didn't gender swap Indy or make him have a gay son. The main villian isn't Adolph Trump Donald's grandfather or anything. No BLM flags anywhere.

Its just a non descript out dated single player game based on a dying outdated IP on a dying system

I keep seeing this. Can you elaborate?

Also, internet says it's 14+ hours long.

Haven't played the game but based on what I have read and seen it looks like basic stealth that was all the rage in the PS2 era brain dead AI hand holding puzzles and basic melee combat.

Even if it's 14 hours which I doubt you could still finish that in a month on GP. Since it's pretty linear doesn't seem like much reason to play over and over again. 0 reason to pay full price for the game. Even 2 months of GP would be enough to beat the game multiple times and is still less than half the cost of the game.

At worst if you really want to own it just wait a few weeks and it will be in the bargain bin. MS has devalued their first party games there is no reason to pay full price for a MS 1st party game at this point.

There are just under 4 hours of cutscenes in total for the game. Total length of game is 12-25 hours depending on how you play it, so on the fast run 12-4 = ~7 hours of gameplay:

Doesn't look like any PS2 game I know of. Looks a bit like No One Lives Forever 2, or other PC games of that time but those were pretty advanced and aged well.

There are some misconceptions in this thread. The game is not only long for an action/adventure game but it isn't linear at all. The Vatican alone is huge, you can spend hours exploring the place and if I'm not mistaken there are two more huge areas, one of them being Egypt. You can get on boats in this game, you can swim underwater.

The stealth is basic but at the same time I think we've grown accustomed to video game characters having supernatural powers in stealth games that can see through walls like Hitman, Dishonored etc. And this game doesn't have that, Indi doesn't have cat eyes. I also chose the "medium difficulty" in puzzles so the game hasn't been holding my hand too much. I'm not super deep into the game yet but I'm having a blast so far. Disclaimer... I'm playing on Game Pass but back in the day I dropped $60 on games that were shorter and worse than this.

I don't have misconceptions about the length of the game, I posted two separate links discussing it, one link with quotes from the creative director Axel Torvenius.

I think my point of being functionally retarded to pay full price when a month of GP will allow you to finish the game still stands.

Then again your playing this on XBOX so automatically that makes you a tard and a homo

I'm not playing the game on Xbox. I literally just got a brand new PC on Saturday. My Xbox is about to get a lot less use going forward. Though I will admit to being a tard for hanging on to a Xbox for so long. Homo I don't know, I think only Canadians are truly homos.

I did tried the game on Xbox out of curiosity and the graphics are atrocious compared to how they look on the desktop. I have Game Pass Ultimate so I downloaded the game on both platforms to compare. I'm not going to buy it either, I think it's a great game but I'm a filthy renter at heart.

You really should. I've always been a console gamer, this is the first gaming PC I own. It's going to be a process to get used to gaming on PC but Holy Molly the past couple of days playing on the new computer and ultrawide monitor I got have been an eye opener. Plus you can still use your Xbox controller to game on PC, that's how I'm playing Indy. Highly recommend it.

Yeah, I built a PC last year and also have a ROG Ally that game on. I'm only sorry that my copies of Elden Ring and D2 are stuck on the Xbox.

I use my console controllers on my PC too. BotW with DualSense is great. lol

OMG this is so frustrating. I mean, good that they fixed it. But, damn.

Remember how bad the lighting looked on Xbox despite it being RTGI? And how it looked way, way worse than the lowest PC settings? Well, the latest patch just fixed it. Looks so much better now. Why did they launch it like this? Either way, good that they fixed it.

Look at the difference!

Just wrapping up the Vatican City and feel like I finally got a good grasp of the game. I will say this as loudly as possible. This is Indiana Jones 4. Fuck Crystal Skull and Dial of Dignity.

This game has so much OG Indy in it. My favorite scene in the game thus far is when the soldier asks you for a confession.

Felt so much like this gif. Blast a dude and move on!

I'm pleasantly surprised that they didn't butcher it for modern audiences. Will buy the game next year after upgrading my GPU.

Yeah, that looks way better.

I still don't give a shit, and another thing that occurred to me; an Indy story without a sexy love interest still isn't a proper Indy story.

Incel alert.

We get an awesome looking, well running, 98% totally faithful Indiana Jones game that, surprisingly in this day and age, doesn't anally fist us with a woke giga dildo, a game that has its issues but is overall well made and good.

UK incel whining about a missing Indy love interest. YOU are the problem with modern gaming, Grummz brain rot Kabrutus damaged sad individual muh digital misogyny.

Fucking give me a break while I'm creating my Reset Era account. Jeez. I'm coming to your side, Ferdi!

Wow... they even gave him idle animations? Must have intended to include 3rd person mode at one point (or maybe patch it in down the road)?

First person masks a lot of things. Anyone else remember Morrowind and Oblivion? 3rd person was an absolute joke.

Those animations aren't bad but they're not modern AAA either. The dev probably decided it wouldn't be worth the extra time and cost to implement, only to be compared (maybe unfavorably) to Tomb Raider and Uncharted.

First person distinguishes it from the competition a bit.

The game is a complete blast and my GOTY for sure.

Why people aren't buying it even when it's awesome reminds me of Mirror's Edge. It became a cult-classic and I see this doing the same thing. They need to make a sequel. I'd rather play this game over any Uncharted or Tomb Raider game.

I think very high graphical requirements in a terrible global economy hinders a lot of potental PC users and the year has also been saturated with solid releases.

Also Indy 4 and 5 really turned people off the franchise.

Indy and the Great Circle does looks really good though. I just worry about potential motion sickness like I had from Preys first person view, could not play what seemed like a really inteasting title. Did not have that problem prior with Bioshock trilogy, F.E.A.R.

I saw the first 45 min of the game and it looks like 250,000x better than Starfield
