Could've sworn we'd had this thread prior
Maybe it was all a fever dream
Anyhow a coworker and myself were reminiscing about Office Space today at work:
And just like God, what a fantastic time that movie is
Eventually this led to myself and a gaggle of coworkers swarmed in a circle discussing our favorites like Old School, Step Brothers, Super Troopers, Talladega Nights, Napolean Dynamite, Superbad, Tropic Thunder, Wedding Crashers, etc
Even a few of which I've never seen like The Other Guys:
Which led to the inevitable conclusion of comedy movies just really not existing these days. At least nothing noteworthy or anything which hits home. I think we all here have awareness to this fact.
It's funny y'know because we live in times where comedy movies are needed more than ever, and it really makes you appreciate just how blessed of an art form these movies are (something which I know brilliant D-Padder @Phunkydiabetic is more than privy to).
Comedy movies, much like horror flicks, are too often looked down upon by film snobs, and it's a shame. Really takes the perfect storm to brew up a comedy classic. While some of these movies can certainly feel less grounded than their dramatic counterparts, and sometimes the gags aren't exactly high-brow - they can be wildly effective in what entertainment should be doing above all else: having the end-user enjoy themselves and providing escapism.
Also, a well-made comedy film is generally well liked by everyone. The average common movie-goer may not be hip to avant garde cinematography or any other such nonsense, but we'll be damned if we can't appreciate a well-written dick joke.
So please... let's talk about your favorite comedies... again?
