Could've sworn we'd had this thread prior

Maybe it was all a fever dream

Anyhow a coworker and myself were reminiscing about Office Space today at work:

And just like God, what a fantastic time that movie is

Eventually this led to myself and a gaggle of coworkers swarmed in a circle discussing our favorites like Old School, Step Brothers, Super Troopers, Talladega Nights, Napolean Dynamite, Superbad, Tropic Thunder, Wedding Crashers, etc

Even a few of which I've never seen like The Other Guys:

Which led to the inevitable conclusion of comedy movies just really not existing these days. At least nothing noteworthy or anything which hits home. I think we all here have awareness to this fact.

It's funny y'know because we live in times where comedy movies are needed more than ever, and it really makes you appreciate just how blessed of an art form these movies are (something which I know brilliant D-Padder @Phunkydiabetic is more than privy to).

Comedy movies, much like horror flicks, are too often looked down upon by film snobs, and it's a shame. Really takes the perfect storm to brew up a comedy classic. While some of these movies can certainly feel less grounded than their dramatic counterparts, and sometimes the gags aren't exactly high-brow - they can be wildly effective in what entertainment should be doing above all else: having the end-user enjoy themselves and providing escapism.

Also, a well-made comedy film is generally well liked by everyone. The average common movie-goer may not be hip to avant garde cinematography or any other such nonsense, but we'll be damned if we can't appreciate a well-written dick joke.

So please... let's talk about your favorite comedies... again?

They try to make comedies but they're always woke garbage like Bros or nihilistic trash that makes fun of safe things to make fun of like Santa Inc

1. Napoleon Dynamite
2. Office Space
3. Dumb and Dumber

In no particular order:

American Psycho, Stepbrothers, Pooty Tang, Beverly Hills Ninja, Freddy Got Fingered, Nutty Professor II: The Klumps, Anchorman, Oldschool, Beavis & Butthead Do America, Deuce Bigalow: European Gigalo, Dodgeball, Grandma's Boy

Forgot about Dewey Cox lol saw that shit in theaters and it was hilarious. The part where he slices his dad in half and then they make their peace after he's been sliced in half, having a full-on conversation and even laughing heartily together 🤣

2000s was maybe peak film comedy. At least in the modern era. Aftet that it was all downhill.

You just had a ton of comedies come out and with DVD you could make a movie and it could be ok at the box office but make bank on home sales.

So many great comedies from that era. I actually think cinema wise the 2000s was damn good.

The old sketch shows died in the 90s. The good panel shows died in early 2000's (Frankie Boyle on Mock the Week) and animated comedies, save for Archer, haven't been themselves in decades. If it wasn't for Bob Mortimer on 'Would I Lie To You?' spinning his Mortimerian tales, nothing on TV would crack a smile.

Slapstick and offensive comedy have both been dead longer than 25 years. Feels bad bros.

Not a movie but I'm watching The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy and some of the references flew over my head as a kid. XD Funny show!

I've come to appreciate really good film comedies as I've gotten older. And frankly speaking, I think comedy is a much harder craft than drama or even a suspense film. It's tough to find the thing that will make people laugh.

I find the Coen Brothers have created some really hilarious offbeat comedy films. My favorite being Oh Brother, Where Art Thou?

Though not my favorite of their work, The Big Lebowski also has some incredibly LOL worthy scenes.

Even Mel Brooks, who's made some classics such as Blazing Saddles and Young Frankenstein, has some really funny bits in his 'lesser' films like Dracula, Dead and Loving It.

My all time faves have to be the Monty Python troupe, especially with their classic Life of Brian.

Every now and then I'll see a newer comedy that I feel harkens back to the glory days of the 90s and early 2000s. We're the Millers mentioned above is one.

But these generally aren't as memorable as the classics, though granted part of that might be nostalgia.

A few of my absolute favorites roughly in order of my enjoyment (probably forgetting a couple that belong in this list):

Office Space
Wedding Crashers
Dirty Work
Clue
Happy Gilmore
The Big Lebowski
Blazing Saddles
Talladega Nights

Sean is a great movie. Worlds end was ok but I am a zombie fan so it was hard to watch worlds after Sean. But sean is A + and one of the best Zombie movies as well as comedies

Drop Dead Gorgeous is my favourite movie. All White rural cast with anorexic in a wheelchair throwing up, what's not to like.

I watched this one again for the first time in well over a decade and was pleased to find it still as funny as ever. SPEAK ENGLISH, RETARD!
