Me and one of my best friends been trying to buy a PS5 since its release, but it's getting more and more silly instead of more easy to get one.
What the fuck is happening there?

This cannot be in Sony's interests.
 
Yeah the shortage is starting to be pretty retard. We are how many months after the launch and they still don't have a steady supply of consoles. Wtf sony, get your shit in order.

I know 1 person, and they got theirs at launch.

The ridiculous supply chain issues they're having are just further highlighting how dumb having so few tech manufacturing centres worldwide is.

Does anyone know what the real reason behind this is?
I heard about cryptomining, but that seems weird considering we are talking about a giant with huge experience in manufacturing like Sony not being able to get enough shit produced.
 
Clearly right now we're seeing why putting your manufacturing eggs in too few baskets is a bad thing - one would hope this will lead to rebalancing of economic strategy both for corporations who hate losing money and governments who might finally understand the risk of key manufacturing being beholden to the interests of hostile regimes and unstable countries. Re the PS5 itself - I don't see any good reason to get one if you've got the Pro for instance. To me it feels like the consoles have lost their way a bit.

This TBH.

Half the games I want are still on PS4. The other half I'm not falling over myself to play (or replay in Demon's Souls case).

As for Xbox, I just can't see why I'd get an XSX over a PC, and I can't see why I'd buy an XSS at all.

Even if I could buy a 9th gen system, I wouldn't basically. Between crossgen, publishers getting bought out, Kung Flu delays and the increasing lack of interest in platform holders competing with their exclusives, this whole new generation change has been a total damp squib.

I honestly think I have more excitement for the Switch 2 than XS's/PS5 right now, and we know literally nothing about it.

I concur.

Whatever movement they had going into this new gen, they have almost completely lost me now with this shit happening, plus so many games being released on PC hardware anyway, plus almost nothing interesting new and shiny being exclusive to the new gen.

Not being able to even buy a new console is just the icing on the turd cake.

Oh the Switch 2 interests me immensely, and that's simply because the Switch 1 has been magnificent. Honestly some of the best gameplay you'll find anywhere, and the form factor is a real improvement over the standard console. Being able to play it lying in bed or on the sofa on a big TV doesn't sound a big deal. It is.

I got mine because of the amazon link posted on neogaf the night preorders opened. I don't know anyone else who was able to get one. Honestly, there's not much to play on it currently so you really aren't missing much. I've just been going through my PS4 backlog.
 
I'm glad I got mine but there really hasn't been anything to play. If it wasn't for CoD being awesome I wouldn't really be playing anything on it besides PS4 games, and CoD is more or less a last gen game anyway.
 
I've also been trying vainly to get one. I don't mind that there aren't too many PS5 games as it plays PS4 games (mostly) in superior fashion and I waited on many games.
 
I was able to snag 3 preorders because I work behind a computer and just waited for them to pop up. I can't imagine trying to be a regular person and trying to get one now. At least during the preorder phase they were up for a couple minutes on most sites. Now they sell out to bots within 5 seconds.

On the plus side if you haven't been able to find one there's not really anything out to play strictly for it right now. Almost everything I've played on mine is a PS4 game. Even the PS5 patched games are just minor upgrades. So far Demons Souls has been the only real nextgen game that has impressed.

Thankfully the PS+ games have been somewhat decent, I really enjoyed the PS5 version of Control, and I would have passed on that if it wasn't free.

The Best Buy store pickup option has been the best bet for me since launch for PS5 and XSX. Everything else is a crapshoot. After the intial release at Walmart getting it from there was nigh impossible. Gamestop and Costco were other places where you had a chance if you were on it.
 
I just got able to grab one week ago here from polish store. PS5 + additional dualsense + nioh2. Should arrive tommorrow/thursday. Kinda hyped not gonna lie :D

Extra controller is the way to go if you will be gaming a lot. Give me a fucking 20 ft charge cable why do they fuck around with that shit, this is a premium priced console I should be able to get a fucking longer cord in the box, this has been an issue since the inception of wireless controllers. I don't find the battery improved too much, even with all the frills turned off.

I got one via a GameStop bundle (Demon's Souls, Miles Morales, extra controller).

I kind of sort of regret it. I love Demon's Souls and the remake was great, but that's really about all the enjoyment I've gotten out of it. It doesn't help that I also got a new PC with an RTX 3080 around the same time.

Hoping they do a PS5 update of The Last of Us II so I can finally start that game.

There is so much content competing for my time that for me it was trivially easy to go "Oh yeah I enjoyed the last game but what the fuck are you trying to sell me here? Nah", I can live without another TPS that will hit every beat they've all hit for the last 10 years (now with added woke!)

There's the thing. I'm in the same boat - I've got a shedload of good games waiting for me so why waste my time on one that actively dislikes me (and not in a cool way)? We all have better things to do with our lives hopefully. Life is short, have an affair play good games.
