As I'm currently feeling getting even more sociopathic, I was looking for ideas for a pet to own to ground myself. I sometimes work 12h shifts in the city so I'm not always home. A dog is out of the question. I had wild bengal cats, they were the best but they're now illegal to own. Also like my oven, I like them self-cleaning. Thoughts?

I clean my house like I would have done a trannycide. I'm OCD on most things. I did have pets. I rather have a animal companion than an animal as a baby if you get what I'm saying.

I absolutely love budgies. You need to give them some attention and time outside their house though. And make sure if you get one that you get a dwelling bigger than what typical pet stores sell.

Do not get a rabbit. They're classed as an exotic pet and need as much attention as a puppy, regular expensive vaccinations, and constant watching to make sure they don't stop eating or pooing, because that can kill them within 24hrs if the root cause isn't treated.

I love them, but they are incredibly hard work to care for properly.

My advice for a low hassle pet would be a guinea pig.

You feed them once a day, clean their cage out when the poop builds up and don't eat them, and they're happy. Only real complication is that they're one of the only animals other than people that need vitamin c, but give them the right food and it's hard not to have them live for at least 5 years.
