I think the point of omegle is to have face to face contact with people. While there are a lot of weird people doing weird things on there, there are also a lot of people in the world who are lonely and just want someone to talk to. Social media itself is basically a free way to communicate with people and is especially good for finding people who share your hobbies or views on life. Before social media, people who were lonely and in isolated locations were basically left to themselves and God (or nature if they aren't so spiritual).

I don't remember what it was called in like 2001, but if you're a teenager, you go on there and try to get chicks to show their tits. It was a good way to practice talking to girls at the time.
