Well we're approaching the three year mark since the last Paper Mario game came out, which would be Paper Mario: The Origami King on July 17, 2020

Possibly in the next year (maybe sooner) or two, it seems likely that we'll be treated to another installment in the series. What it will be like, or what it will be about — who knows? But one thing is sure, Paper Mario: The Origami King sold well for its genre and likely has paved the way for another Paper Mario game on the Nintendo Switch and/or its successor

What are your thoughts and comments on the upcoming Paper Mario game? What about the series as a whole? Are you excited to receive official news for the next Paper Mario game, and are you likely to purchase and play the game on the first day, week, or month of its release?

I'm looking forward to it. I liked The Oragami King, it was definitely an improvement over Colour Splash. The boss battles in TOK were quite good and had a decent challenge but the 'normal' battles got boring quickly because there was really no incentive to do them. I hope they bring back partners that play a more active role in battle.

The Origami King was pretty solid, so fairly interested.

I'd be delighted if the Thousand Year Door Remaster rumour is true though. That on a handheld would be great.

Only played the first two. I have a long way to catch up. They can take their time.

I never played Origami King (other than the demo) but given the recent missteps the series has taken I can't say I am particularly bothered by a new Paper Mario unless it chases that high of TTYD.

Sticker Star was dreadful, I am glad they at least moved away from that.

The Paper series has waned a bit for me over the years. Ill definetly be interested and look at any new game, but not sure I would buy/play.

I would however kill for a true Mario RPG sequel if Nintendo partner with Square again.

Super Paper Mario was the last Paper Mario that held my attention and that was a sharp drop off from thousand year door.

It desperately needs to go back to the basics on combat and exp and leveling up.

I only have the gamecube game, but I couldn't get into it. RPGs have to have a really good story for me to have fun with them tbh.

The series stranghely didn't lose me with Super Paper Mario, nor Sticker Star, nor Colour Splash, but it lost me with Origami King and now I don't care unless it goes back to what made it good.

Origami King was like a game for kids which I can't say the same about all the ones after TTYD which have had their flaws.

Voted 5. They will have to show something more of an RPG again with unique characters and all that again for it to become a 10.

I would just be happy with the GameCube version as part of a Switch 2 NSO thing. It's Paper Mario... there's nothing to remaster.

Sadly, I've quit caring. It's abundantly clear to me that Nintendo does not view the Paper Mario property as a AAA title and prefers to hand it out to fledgling dev studios under an increasingly rigid set of guidelines that prevent unwanted creativity with regards to the characters and properties being lent out.

Paper Mario is like Yoshi in that it started out spectacularly as a sort of mainline type of thing before quickly fading into the sort of title shoveled out during the off-season as gap filler.

Origami King was a good step back to what Paper Mario should be, but they still have a little ways to go to make it the solid series that it can be again. I gave it a 7 since it has such great roots, but it still needs work to recover from Sticker Star.

Only interested in a traditional paper mario.

The fist two Paper Marios were definitely best in the series, and most of the games that came after are not that great, but I wouldn't pass of TOK. It's not traditional Paper Mario, but it is a good adventure game.

Not interested at all but glad you liked it. I have so many games to play it's intimidating lol.

The reason why they're not making an traditional paper mario is complete bs and part of it is im not buying the new stuff out of principle.

Miyamoto has imposed his will on the developer and will not let them make an rpg with partners based on his original work.

Probably sitting around an 8, 9, or 10 for this one. The Origami King was on the right path in a handful of ways, but lacked a combat system that could keep the attention of the player the second half of the game. Some areas were very linear and plain as well. If Intelligent Systems strikes gold again, I would think that it'd be with this next one

The problem is Miyamoto insists people want the franchise to continuously innovate

Like nah breh, we just want a traditional Paper Mario game

I'm not at all.

Despite being a huge JRPG fan, Paper Mario never really grabbed me
Not even the first one? Pure bliss of a game for me, and to this day the charm of Paper Mario has never been matched. I don't consider any game to be even near what Paper Mario had going for it, but that's for another discussion I would say

I know that the series has been in a rut, but honestly they (Intelligent Systems) are bound to strike gold again even with Miyamoto being a bitch. Even if they have to work around certain restrictions, I can see this next one hitting the mark. We just need a combat system and inventory that makes the overworld and dungeons or levels more enjoyable to explore and conquer. A slightly more expansive hub or main town and overworld to explore would do wonders for the next game as well

I can see a Paper Mario and or Yoshi game hitting the Switch just before the Switch 2 launches. Could be this holidays "big" game.

Paper Mario is one of those series I've always wanted to like but haven't really ever gotten into. I'd much rather see another Super Mario RPG.

We have Paper Mario on NSO, Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga on NSO, Super Mario RPG remake in November 2023, Paper Mario: The Thousand Year-Door remake coming 2024

It looks like there could be reason to guess that a new Paper Mario game might be halfway finished or more right now. Would love to see one release holiday of 2024 or maybe Spring of 2025. I just hope that they'll put effort into world building and characters at the very least if Intelligent Systems insists on yet another gimmick

Given the gutting of the last game due to the so called Mario Mandate, my enthusiasm for a new entry is low. Now, the Thousand Year Door remaster, I'm all in for that.

Franky I really think we can break the paper Mario cycle if mario rpg and ttyd sell well.

I get the feeling Nintendo is aware people want Paper Mario to go back to the basics.
