Played Odyssey on the Switch, undocked. Didn't make it far into the game.

It's really good, really polished and looks great but you can't help but get the feeling we've been here before.

The only real stand out moments are things like the musical section in New Donk City and even though the platforming is super tight and a joy to move around it soon runs a bit flat.

I think Gears is only really let down by the final boss fight which is at odds with everything the game has been teaching you until then.

Odyssey is a very good 3D platformer, but overall it's nothing ground breaking.

When Gears came out it did look and feel next gen. Looked great, played great. Good storyline. Gory.

I was leaning toward Mario because I'm a platformer guy, but the more I thought about it Gears is a game that just made a bigger impact for its genre. It's one of the big ones for the shooter genre like Halo: Combat Evolved, Half-Life 2, and Goldeneye 007. Gears was a bro game that put hair on your chest

Plus, I hate that Odyssey always felt like a game that wasn't meant to be played in handheld mode despite being a Switch exclusive.

Gears of War multiplayer was peak toxicity and the campaign was stellar. Odyssey was meh. It felt off going from Galaxy 2 to Odyssey.

While a joy to play, Super Mario Odyssey has insane amounts of filler and bloat. Like that game, no offense to those who loved it, it's like 80% bloat and 20% authentic Super Mario content. It's kind of like they just grabbed globs of play-doh and smashed them together randomly and thought nobody would notice how disjointed the world and game is. Like they just intentionally made massive levels with plain themes and said okay guys, let's fill her up. A moon to be found in every which direction you turn

What's truly terrible about that game is how they waste your time with so many handout moons. You can literally purchase hundreds of moons. Hundreds. So like 30% of the gameplay content or maybe even more, is bought... Who can say with a straight face that this game isn't sheer laziness polished into oblivion to show it off as a great game. It is really good still, but man Nintendo is getting so lazy with all this corner cutting. Scale the game back some or hire more employees to work on the games if you want to make such immense worlds. People cannot be tricked into thinking a barren land with countless minor tasks is somehow some grand Kingdom of unbelievable splendor. Which one are you trying to create Nintendo? Because you're fooling yourselves if you think that gamers appreciate being fed these massive amounts of fairly flavorless content

It's one of the best "time-killer" Mario games around. But how many people play Mario games just to kill time? I personally play to see another wonderful chapter in the Super Mario Bros. universe unfold. Never imagined that we'd get a Super Mario game that essentially boils down to the equivalent of a 128 page checklist of tasks to complete

Honestly, Super Mario Odyssey is a bit ridiculous. Imagine ordering a couple orders of fries from you favorite burger joint. It's just two orders of fries. But when you pull up to the window(s) to pay and receive your order they say here you go and hand you eight brown paper bags filled to the very top with piping hot french fries. It's unprecedented and even though you didn't ask for that insane amount of fries you roll with it and just drive home with your order of eight bags of fries to enjoy. You get home and when you start digging into the absurdly generous portions, you realize almost all the fries are kind of undercooked or limp, they aren't salted or seasoned hardly at all, they hardly have any taste or flavor no matter what you do. Those eight bags of fries were all in vain because you can't even seem to properly enjoy even what would be a standard medium portion of them, because most of them are so bland. Same thing with Super Mario Odyssey and the moons. It's the exact same scenario. The fries are there, you'll try to get your fill and money's worth, but it's just a very disappoint game when you break it down and see it for what it truly is. I'd still give it about 7.5/10 because it was fun for a while, but I do not think highly of the game

On one last note, Tostarena is a very appealing first level and definitely the highlight of the game. Some might say New Donk City, but for me the best the game had to offer was definitely Tostarena

Super Mario Odyssey is a good game, but like Franky said earlier it does suffer from a lot of bloat. Super Mario 64 and Sunshine had a more structured way of collecting stars/shines and Odyssey tries to change it up a bit by having a lot more moons to collect during the game. The extra moons are a lot like the Korok seeds in BOTW/TOTK, there are just so many of them that it is more of a grind to try and collect them all, rather than a fun challenge. 100%ing SM64 and Sunshine is fun and achievable within a reasonable amount of time, but I think Odyssey stretches it out just a bit too much. A tighter experience would be a bit better.

Gears of War is a great game and a great franchise, but I think the addition of Horde Mode in GOW2 made that game a lot more fun. Without horde mode, I think I prefer Odyssey. Odyssey does have a bit of bloat but it does have a lot of interesting worlds to explore and it is a pleasant gaming experience. It isn't too easy which is a plus, and the hat transformations are a cool game mechanic that shakes up the play style a fair bit.

Mario Odyssey all the way for me. Gears of War was really impressive in 2006, but I don't think it holds up so well.

Never finished Odyssey don't think I ever will. Too bloated with collectibles, I get that's the point, but there is such a thing as overdoing it.

Gears felt perfectly paced and I finished it three times, the multiplayer gave me some of the most adrenaline rushing moments in my gaming life. Easy pick.

I just didn't like Odyssey. It was a good enough 3D Mario but far too short. When I got to the end, I was disappointed there wasn't more than what they offered. Also, no DLC Kingdoms to build on where we left off.

I actually wish modern games in general would cut down on the bloat, but that's not gonna happen as long as dipshit game reviewers and youtube "influencers" keep complaining whenever a game comes out that they deem too short, or "not enough content", or "where's the multiplayer mode?"

Every game has to be fat and bloated now, I want some mean, lean, focused games with good pacing. I grew up during gaming eras where games didn't waste your time. I miss that

If you play the games you absolutely love the bloat isn't bloat to me.

I only feel that If I play games I'm not enjoying that much.
