Never played DQ8 but even if I had I'd still probably pick Demon's Souls. Was a nice change at the time when almost every other game you could sleepwalk through.

Demon's Souls was revolutionary, it kicked off a great disruption of the market. Shitty performance though.

Demon Souls is incredible but so is Dragon Quest VIII.

Also there's actually towns and settlements to save. Don't like how Souls games don't have towns and cities with only maybe a small hub that are not dead which is my major issue with them.

Easy one here for me. I only played the PS5 remake of Demon's Souls, and despite giving it 10+ hours of my time....I fucking hated it. There were aspects that were good for sure, but the game as a whole was like learning to run across a mine field by trial and error. Hard Pass from me.

So I dont have to go into DQ8's merits, because all it had to do here was not infuriate me for hours on end.

Demons souls for me. I gotta pick up a copy of the PS5 remake one of these days, but I went through the game again on my old PS3 copy last year and I loved it…. Atmosphere, music, and sound effects really draw you in. I used to like Dark Souls more, but after so many years I appreciate the idiosyncratic weirdness of Demons more.
