Just stubled across this title:

It's in early access, PC only. Once it's finished, the devs could go for a console version as well. This looks kinda neat and fun. Pretty early in development.

From the Steam page:

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

Full version of the game is planned to include:

  • 12 fighting styles and even more characters (some base anims will be shared)
  • 12 arenas
  • original soundtrack (5 songs are already in the game!)
  • 6 AI modes
  • cinematic story mode (full cutscenes)
  • combat with multiple enemies
  • different clothes for characters to choose from
  • Parsec integration for online multiplayer
  • Sparring mode with training weapons

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

"Currently the game includes:

  • 6 playable characters
  • 6 arenas
  • Story cinematic teaser (a test cutscene)
  • 7 original music tracks
  • Vs. AI mode, survival mode, sparring mode and local player vs. player mode (use Steam Remote Play Together to play online)
  • many controllers support (including fight sticks) and fully rebindable controls
  • options to adjust the active ragdolls parameters, slomo, stamina, damage, no blood etc.

The dude who develops this game is from Poland and has some great experience, explaining why the animations are that good in this game. This is his resume:

Jakub Kisiel started his game development career in 2004 as a 3D animator in a small company in Poland called Tannhauser Gate, but he spent most of his career in People Can Fly (Epic Games Poland). He worked there from 2005 to 2013. He was a lead animator in Bulletstorm and Gears of War: Judgment. He also was involved in making Gears of War PC, Unreal Tournament III, Infinity Blade II. After parting with Epic Games, he spent a year in CD Projekt RED as a senior animator, animating Geralt, the main hero of The Witcher III. Since then Jakub also provided animation services for creators of The Vanishing of Ethan Carter, Inner Chains and redesigned the animation system of Gloria Victis. He also created a well recieved VR demo for HTC Vive – Spell Fighter and an AR game Dinosaur Kit for Magic Leap.

Very fascinating concept, glad ideas like this can exist in flat screen gaming! Things like this usually exist only in VR, as that platform favors realism

Its incredible that we have game engines and tech that make it possible for a very small team or even only this one dude to realize these ideas with such a level of quality.

I wanted to dive into online matches but it didn't work unfortunately. It's supposed to work over parsec, and people joined me - but left because their controls didn't work. Apparently there's an active community on discord, maybe they can help me.

Game got updated with the long guard mechanic for all fighters, for defending better against thurst attacks. Also some new moves.
I keep playing this game despite it being rather light on content so far. The survival mode is quick fun and I do some rounds every time I get the chance. There's something incredibly satisfying about the gameplay that make me coming back to it. If only the MP implementation would be at least halfway decent!

It's currently 25% off on Steam btw.

I will definitely try this out. I love fighting games, and a realistic one is definitely one that has been missing from gaming (I didn't like the UFC games).

There's been some progress here. I keep playing some rounds on a regular basis, it's satisfying and the rounds are short.

- Added VR mode
- Added an Arcade mode with a boss fight
- Added new characters
- Improved visuals
- Many gameplay tweaks

Is this ever going to have an official release? On consoles even?

It's using Unreal Engine, so a port to console wouldn't be that difficult. It's a very small dev team, it's basically one dude with a bit of help. He updated the Steam page:

Edit: Currently the scope of the game has become larger than what was planned at the Early Access release. We already got more gameplay modes, more combat features and more (than the initially planned 12) characters/fighting styles are in the works. It is very likely that we will spend more than 2 years making this game. This doesn't mean we work slower - we will just make more content."

Game started Early Access in Feb 2021. He's doing some good progress, but I don't think he'll finish it this year. I'd guess we'll see it leaving EA in 2024. Maybe even with a console release.

Update on the game:

- Added a ton of gameplay improvements and balancing
- New stages
- Physics and collision improvements
- New survival mode with Steam leaderboards and fight performance dependend points, taking into account various stats
- New music
- Improvements in the Arcade Mode
- Migrated to the newest version of Unity Engine to support future console release, FSR, DLSS and raytracing
- Added FSR 3

They're working on the story mode and many other features, also more fighters.

So they are planning a console release? Lemme guess, no word yet.

There's no date or time frame for the console release. "For a future console release" was mentioned in the patch notes, so it'll happen at some point. I guess they'd want to finish the story mode first at least, as well as implementing a more solid multiplayer experience before releasing on consoles.

Is this game ever going to have a physical release? Or a digital release on consoles?

It's only that dude working on it full time with some support, it's constant progress but at a slow pace. Feels like it's still a long way to go for the full release and potential console versions.

Jeez. I mean, this thing must have a lot of players on Steam right? If he wanted to, he could do a Kickstarter to fund it and hire some additional people to help finish and polish it for a general release.
