Alright gentlemen. I have about 20 pounds of fat I would like to lose and 10 pounds of muscle I would like to gain.

I'm currently intermittent fasting and it's surprisingly not doing what I want (although I haven't incorporated exercise into the plan yet.)

Some back story:
I've been out of shape for about 7 years or so. Basically when my first daughter was born whatever free time I had would go to her.
We now have the 7 year old, a 1 1/2 year old, and a 3 month old.

I have no real time for exercise between work and being a dad.

I'm looking for some sort of casual exercise routine to end my day. Something that will kickstart my fast, and start getting my body ready to start working out again in the summer.

Any have any recommendations as to what that type of exercise should be? Ideally not push ups because my right elbow doesn't play nice with that motion. Just looking for something to get the heart rate up a bit and maybe start letting my muscles know they are going to be called upon soon.

Cardio. Something like jump rope would be ideal because it conditions your ankles, calves, wrists, and shoulders (all trouble-spots for the typical athlete).

instaEDIT you read my mind @Dreamlord lol

Back on the weight loss journey at long last. 3rd day. To boost-start, I went for a 3 day-fast where I eat almost nothing. Had nothing on Tuesday, a pack of chips yesterday (controlled 1000kcal) and half a portion seafood salad that my parents didn't eat themselves. Will weigh myself tomorrow and get the surely shocking result over with - it will be pretty shocking I'm sure :/ But I cannot properly lose weight without regular weighing (I won't post my weight, don't bother asking). Plan going forward is to follow portion-size that I had success with in the past, plus limit my own cooking to begin with.I get half a grilled chicken and a Doner Kebap at my parents per week, so that's two days I don't need anything else. Will try to keep focusing on soups. And the occasional cup of rice with a little something-sauce.

Once I feel slightly better, I'll try to start some actual exercises, probably dumbbell lifting.

Anyway, wish me luck :> Oh, and feels like I got another cold today, lol.

Good luck, dude. Perseverance is the key.

Get at it man. Good luck. Cut out those sugar and processed carbs, it's like smoking cigs while hoping to improve your lungs.

Since moving into the new house, I haven't been able to do a single bit of weight lifting, which is my preferred form of exercise. No garage or shop, and just a single un-walled lean-to. Weight set is under a tarp. *sad face* That said, I've been getting in a shit ton of digging, shoveling, raking, sawing, hammering, hauling lumber/bricks/cement, climbing ladders, etc., so I feel I'm in the best shape I've been in years. Going to be great once I get the walls up on the lean-to and can unpack my rack/bench/weights/etc. and can add all that into the mix. Do a couple hours of property maintenance, then throw on multiple sets of deadlifts before calling it a day? Yes, please. :D

My cardio is shit, so I went for a run. I'm not jogging, I'm running. Fuck me. We live on a hill, and I have to run some steep streets to get to a good running trail. That already killed me, I pulled a George Floyd. I pushed myself to continue, and ran 5km. To get back home, had to run uphill again. Had to motivate me hard, literally "I can't stop running or else I'm gay and my whole family dies" levels of mental pressure.

Will do it again every two days, have to push myself.

What's stopping you from doing some jump rope at home in between? Do the longer runs, that's fine, but jump rope (or heck, just walk 1-2 miles) on your off days to strengthen your ankles, calves, knees, and hamstrings

Three small kids, job, house to take care of and a crazy wife take up a lot of my time. I like to take runs to just get out and reset. When I'm at home, there's always some shit to do or someone needing me for something.

I get it. But your fitness makes all of those things easier (or needlessly more difficult). so maybes it's worth taking even more time out of your week — even for a temporary stint of 3-6 months — to give it extra time and focus

Ordered a squat rack to do barbell squats. I've been doing squats with dumbells, but find that a bit awkward and I only have 50lb dumbells as my heaviest. I am looking forward to learning barbell squats and adding those into my routine. I think that will complete my home gym setup aside for maybe not really needed things like a dumbell rack and a small smart TV for background noise.

I have been struggling with losing the last bit of fat I wanted to lose, but cut some more calories and seem to be losing at a steady pace now. I wasted a lot of time stalled out at the same spot since life has been busy. In another week or two I should be done. Then I want to slowly gain weight for a few months until I am somewhere in the 180s. The last year I have lifted I have been doing 2 days upper body 1 day lower as a newbie. Now I am doing 3 days full body. I am still doing 2 days kickboxing also for cardio/entertainment.

for any of you home gym bros:

A month ago I got a cheap $15 Amazon version with wood handles and have been using it with 2 out of 5 springs. Definitely a must have tool. It has quickly replaced a variety of chin-up assistance band and elastic wall mounted bands that I have been using for 2+ years to build back/shoulders and to compliment my gymnastic ring training. @VlaudTheImpaler if you don't already have one, I'm pretty sure this tool would be up your alley

Time to get back on the horse.
Been doing a lot gym last few months so last 2 weeks I took a small break to recharge. Starting a 6 week 20 reps per set routine.

Nice bouncing tits

What's your set look like? High rep stuff is exceptional for the joints and stabilizer muscles. Hope you see some gains

My dad used to be obsessed with a version of that when I was a kid called the bullworker. I just checked and apparently they still make it.

Yeah, I kinda got a bit fucked up the last few months with heavy weights, because I don't stretch enough on a daily basis, so I pulled my left shoulder and also got golfer elbow on my right arm which is extremely annoying, because I can't do pull ups and it hurts during deadlifts.

So I want to spend 6 weeks with light weights and 15-20 reps per set, 4 to 6 sets. Full body, nothing out of the ordinary. Hoping that this will help both with joints and muscle injuries.

Heck yeah! I actually something like this that uses bands and flexible rods. Think something like the bull worker but built like a bowflex. I use it for antagonistic conditioning.

I'm still kicking it btw. Stronger than ever. Won 3rd place at the Blueberry Festival against some top ranked people.

Just the other day my buddies and I traveled 6 hours to test our might against one of the best in the world. The legendary Todzilla.

qQibYO0.jpg

No, I didn't win, haha. He wasn't hitting in on me. He was just trying to hold everyone. I honestly thought I'd have absolutely nothing for him. But I was actually able to peel through his fingers a bit. Which is huge. I just wish I was a bit more fresh when he was ready. But a guy had come up to me and asked if I wanted to pull him and so I was in the middle of that when someone came up to me and told me Todd was free to pull.

Anyway, that entire meetup was awesome. We got to pull with his team, the Muddy River Boys. It really helped us gauge where we're at. Every time I pinned someone it gave me the warm fuzzies when I heard someone say, "is that another one of them Indiana boys?". I was pinning a lot of guys who immediately after told me that they were ranked in the top 10 or 5 in Ohio or nationally. I was able to hold a guy for a bit above the pin pad (before he pinned me) who's in the top 10 in the nation 2 weight classes ahead of me.

That day our team finally understood that we're actually at a pretty high level and should be getting out there more. So we're gonna take more trips and hit up more tournaments and see if we can get ourselves ranked.

glad you're still improving and competing. You scared me a bit there with your health issues months ago so it's a blessing to hear you haven't slowed down. Keep at it my man

Haven't had any issues with my heart since then and honestly, I just keep feeling better and better as I get older. Like, all the way around. It's weird, but I'm just gonna keep thanking God and not let it go to waste.

Well my weight and numbers are way up since I regularly posted in the NeoGAF fitness thread a few years back. I think I weighed like 155 lbs at my lowest in 2020/2021 when I was actively trying to get my body fat percentage down low.

Well this year I bought a house, and put a power rack in the basement. I went through about 6 months of bulking and I'm now at 195 pounds. I just started reducing calories, doing more cardio (and stopped going to Wendy's all the time), and planning to trim some of the fat. None of my old pants fit AT ALL. My main fall jacket doesn't even zipper.

Here's what I'm currently lifting (not super impressive I know, but considering that I'm somewhat lanky and don't have much muscle naturally, it's a huge improvement on where I was at before).

For reps-
Deadlift: 185 lbs.
Squat: 175 lbs.
Bench press: 115 lbs.
Overhead press: 75 lbs.

that's good, especially the overhead press (lots of people are weak there).

What are you doing for cardio? Even if your end goal is bulk, the inclusion of LISS will help your muscle growth a considerable amount. Plus you generally feel a lot better and less sore from week to week. My mainstays are jumproping and jogging. I do several miles each day and I'm definitely trimmer compared to a few years ago

Haven't done much, just the occasional bike ride and a walk a few times a week. I've been slowly ramping up and doing lower body stretches. I always get knee pain if I run/jog without working on my flexibility first. I'm aiming to start jogging in the next couple weeks.

Daily jumprope really helped me build up my ankles and knees when I was way too fat to jog for any reasonable distance (doesn't sound like you're actually fat, just put on some weight) so that's why I always recommend it for cardio.

Tooth hurty? Go to a dentist. If it's an infection you want that handled quick.

My health insurance starts in October so i'm holding on until then but for now, i'm using floss pics, waterpiks, oregel mouthwash then brushing 2 times a day. :)

Life advice for everyone don't slack on your flossing. You will regret it later on!

I'm an unhealthy piece of shit but finally getting back into a routine of walking 5-7 miles after work and have already lost nearly 20lbs after a couple consecutive weeks at it. Feels great and I definitely have more energy than before and I'm craving the walk.

Hoping to lose another 20lbs!

I used to be an avid sport climber. Spent a month living at campsites while climbing all over Rifle, Colorado years ago during my prime.

I haven't climbed in 10+ years but went to a climbing gym for the first time two weeks ago. I bought a membership and I've been getting back into it. I'm just doing bouldering until I accumulate all the gear needed for sport climbing. Also, hoping to build my climbing stamina a lot more before I get outside.

I've started a training routine outside of the climbing gym which will help with climbing. I'm trying not to lose a bunch of size while still being massively strong while climbing. Not sure how well it will go but it sure is fun.

Very nice! I've done some indoor climbing and god damn is it tough! Love it, though.

You guys remember my arm-wrestling training partner I refer to as the Hulk? Well...

He just won 1'st on his left! Undefeated! And it looked freaking easy even though that other dude is some sort of giant, haha. He'll be doing his right arm tomorrow. I'd say his right is a bit weaker than his left so wish him luck!

The kickboxing place I go to is going out of business. That's been my cardio twice a week for the last two years and got me out of the house more. Now I need to find something new. There's a bunch of places around like Orange Theory, but I liked kickboxing being simple rather then a large list of changing exercises. Punching and kicking is fun. I could switch to combat oriented boxing instead of cardio.

Floss pick, Waterpick, Gum care mouthwash, and brushing with enamel toothpaste at least two times a day stopped the pain and bleeding for the most part. :D Just got to keep the habit of doing it every day

Challenging myself to do 50 pushups a day this month

3 Days down

150 push-ups in

I'm both weaker and heavier than ive been so i can barely do 10 in a go

I can do them in any increment i can, just has to be 50 a day

If i miss a day, i gotta do 100 the next

Heck yeah! Get after it brother. If I could recommend something... If you can barely do 10 regular pushups all at once, I'd suggest doing push offs as a warmup or even just to condition for a while without the normal pushups. I do at least 30 normal (The rest are 45degree inverted) pushups all at once every morning as I roll out of bed to start the day and I still start with push offs. At first all I could do was push offs because of my back shoulders. So I stuck with 30-50 of them every morning for about a month or two. Then instead of replacing them with pushups, I just worked the pushups in along with them. Same reps and all. I do them against my bathroom counter which is a good height for me. Just make sure you don't waist them because they're easy. If you focus properly and do them with proper form you'll definitely achieve a good pump as well as better mind body connection and muscle control. I like spacing my hands wide then with every pushup inching them in, without standing up, till I'm doing a diamond pushup. Then back out and so on and so forth till I'm done.

Its weird @VlaudTheImpaler because i used to at least be able to do like 20 or 30 in one go, just a couple years ago

Oh well

As long as you don't try diving head long back into it and do too much, you'll be surprised at how fast it'll come back. Think of the push-offs as sanding off the rust and doing maintenance on a car that has sat idle for a while. It'll take a bit of consistent boring/tedious prep work, but after you do and it's all smooth and greased up you'll be ready to get it back on the road and put it through it's paces. You're body remembers a lot and it won't take long for it to readapt.

My new gym :) going to workout at least 3 times a week

Those tiny dumbbells aren't going to do you much good. At least get some 20s. They look like the lady dumbbells Target sells.

I just looked at the prices for dumbbells on Amazon. They're crazy. I bought 30 pound dumbbells last October for $30 each, now it's $62 for a single one.
