Article:
Joseph Staten, head of creative on Halo Infinite, and writer and cinematic director on Halo: Combat Evolved, Halo 2, and Halo 3, will leave Microsoft, he announced.

"Hey folks, I am indeed leaving Microsoft," Staten said in a tweet. "I'll have more info to share soon, but for now, I'd just like to thank all my Xbox colleagues for all their understanding and support as I embark on a new adventure."

In a statement, a Microsoft spokesperson said, "We're grateful for Joseph's contributions to the Halo franchise and Xbox as a whole. We wish him all the best in his new adventure."

Thanks, IGN.

It would be very surprising to see Microsoft fund another big budget Halo game.

Appropriate (quote's from one of Halo Infinite's grunts):

I SO hate that he's leaving. I hope Xbox has him under a contract that requires him to voice the grunts no matter what his circumstances and death does not relieve him of this obligation in any future Halo endeavors. Joe Staten as the voice and dialogue grunts is one of my favorite parts of Halo.

343 Halo is an unsalvageable mess, like Disney Star Wars or Kurtzman Trek. The only way to save Halo/Star Wars/Star Trek is to go all the way back to where it had fans and start from there. For Halo this means delete everything post Halo: Reach; no more stupid ret-cons, no more "I'm 12 and this is deep" retardation, no nonsensical explanations of things that need no explanation, just basic Covenant = bad, UNSC = good, Flood = scary, Forerunners = mysterious shoot-bang like it always was. Like NHL, FIFA and Call of Duty figured out, you can give people the same thing over and over and they'll buy it, that is why I have been playing practically the same Call of Duty for almost 15 years (CoD1 to Infinite Warfare) until they decided to "make it better" (Cold War has a great campaign though), now I can't give two shits about it, same with Halo, Star Wars (which we call Clown Wars now) and Star Trek.

I'm coming at this from the polar opposite point of view, 343 did salvage Halo with Infinite. Then they flushed it all away post-launch.

They handled the "soft reboot" well enough, one of my bigger gripes with its campaign being the huge discrepancy between the humor in the mission cut scenes/dialogue, if you can call it that, compared to the NPCs on the field. The only other game/series that had me that interested and entertained by what NPCs had to say was GTA.

343, like Nintendo with Breath of the Wild, built a very strong foundation in need of some post-launch attention. Nintendo went on to provide a bit of that with DLC and now has fans hyped up again for a sequel taking full advantage of that foundation. Microsoft, on the other hand, completely gave up on everything they built (in single-player anyway) and wants to start fresh. Again.

It's no surprise to me that MS is choosing to follow the herd like sheep (re: Unreal Engine) when people in leadership roles like Rob Semsey are retweeting political garbage like this:

They should do us all a favor and get out of the video game business, I'm sure there are plenty of jobs available at the thousands of NGOs partnered with the UN/WEF to push those [un]Sustainable Development Goals.

has been for years now.

Halo has been on life support since 2011.

Star Wars is the best its been since the dogshit PT came out. We just need Muscle Mommy back in Mandalorian. GTFO w/ that.

But yeah Star Trek and Halo really need to figure out what the fuck they're trying to do. Infinite acted like it was "going back to Halo's roots" but it was really just a sad and neutered fanservice attempt.

Also yes absolutely to Cold War being a good campaign. It's their best since OG Black Ops.
