Thread: Hair in Video Games
Ratchet also has very good hair, although that is nonhuman. I'm interested in seeing if they have any character with longer hair and how that will play out. Their short hair, or fur is pretty dope.

Yeah there a video here of some of frostbites Hair tech in the Fifa Games

Pretty impressive (although everyone looks a little like they just walked got out of the Barbers shop and onto the pitch). The only thing that I think that is lacking somewhat is some asynchronous weight to the hair, in that it isn't all going to move uniformly like an entity, but for the most part, it's very good. I think also what helps is that, unlike an Uncharted or Tomb Raider, they're not going for that cinematic cutscene look versus that of the rawness of the TV sports Camera.

Witcher 3 and Resident Evil 8 are pretty good examples of how much this has come along. At the time Witcher 3 was like "zomg wow" despite it looking kinda meh. RE8 on the other hand looks super good for the most part, at least on PC!

Surprisingly, the new Horizon game has abysmal hair rendering. Floating, clipping, jelly hair that looks really bad.

I think it's impressive in terms of complexity, but I would agree that it looks a little ...buoyant to my mind.

Clearly the winner.

The fact that ea can manage to have more detailed faces in a game that has to render 22 players, a gigantic stadium etc but they can't do decent fighters model in ufc4 that has to render like 1/20 of fifa is infuriating...

It was the early to mid 2000s when physics started playing a much bigger role in videogames. It felt like we had this amazing future ahead of us where destructibility and object movement was going to keep improving to amazing and lifelike levels.

Instead we got 15 years of "here's the game running at a higher resolution with better textures."

Don't forget the cloud making destructible buildings even cooler in crackdown. That was hyped for a while and was a bit flatly received if I remember correctly.

lmao it used the "massive power of the cloud" to show destruction that looked like Red Faction on PS2

What an embarrassment that shit was. Microsoft used to go so far with their bullshit. Every E3 was some new fake shit like Kinect things that would never exist or Minecraft on Hololens that would never exist. Then it was this idea that their server farms would compute things for you in real time...and none of the very simple questions that came up could be answered.
