Pretty interesting video talking about Hair in Videogames and how far the tech has come as well as how demanding it can be, and the amount of work that can go into it these days.
frostbite hair demo also shows potential for future games
That's the best Chloe Moretz has ever looked.Like this?

Surprisingly, the new Horizon game has abysmal hair rendering. Floating, clipping, jelly hair that looks really bad.
Yeah there a video here of some of frostbites Hair tech in the Fifa Games
Pretty impressive (although everyone looks a little like they just walked got out of the Barbers shop and onto the pitch). The only thing that I think that is lacking somewhat is some asynchronous weight to the hair, in that it isn't all going to move uniformly like an entity, but for the most part, it's very good. I think also what helps is that, unlike an Uncharted or Tomb Raider, they're not going for that cinematic cutscene look versus that of the rawness of the TV sports Camera.

I wonder how expensive it is. Could we handle a long hair animal with that kind of hair now? In any case within a generation we will probably have 5-6X the Teraflops, so all that excess performance can be used for hair too.Clearly the winner.

Don't forget the cloud making destructible buildings even cooler in crackdown. That was hyped for a while and was a bit flatly received if I remember correctly. It was the early to mid 2000s when physics started playing a much bigger role in videogames. It felt like we had this amazing future ahead of us where destructibility and object movement was going to keep improving to amazing and lifelike levels.
Instead we got 15 years of "here's the game running at a higher resolution with better textures."
lmao it used the "massive power of the cloud" to show destruction that looked like Red Faction on PS2Don't forget the cloud making destructible buildings even cooler in crackdown. That was hyped for a while and was a bit flatly received if I remember correctly.

What an embarrassment that shit was. Microsoft used to go so far with their bullshit. Every E3 was some new fake shit like Kinect things that would never exist or Minecraft on Hololens that would never exist. Then it was this idea that their server farms would compute things for you in real time...and none of the very simple questions that came up could be answered.
Uncharted 4 had some good looking hair and did many different styles well.
