On March 4, Grand Theft Auto V on PC is getting a free upgrade with sought-after features previously only available in the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S versions of GTA Online — including all the latest vehicles and performance upgrades available at Hao's Special Works, animal encounters, and access to purchase a GTA+ Membership — along with improved graphics options, faster loading times, and more.

All players who currently own GTAV on PC will be able to upgrade to this new version for free, with the ability to migrate your Story Mode and Online progress.

Once upgraded, current PC players — along with anyone playing the game for the first time — will have access to a full suite of much-requested GTA Online upgrades previously only available on the latest consoles:
 • Enjoy a range of new vehicles and upgrades at Hao's Special Works (HSW) that push automotive performance to new heights, and test your driving skills with Premium Test Rides, HSW Races, and HSW Time Trials.
 • Encounter Ambient Animals all across Southern San Andreas and take pictures of them to participate in the daily Wildlife Photography Challenge for new rewards.
 • PC players can sign up for GTA+ Membership to get special benefits in the upgraded version of GTA Online and beyond.
 • Track your criminal movements across all of GTA Online's updates with the Career Progress feature as you build your empire.
 • Navigate a refreshed Landing Page as your starting destination to get straight into the action. Plus, take advantage of an improved introductory flow for newer players with a GTA$4,000,000 windfall to buy property, vehicles, and other items when you start off as an Executive, Gunrunner, Nightclub Owner, or Biker in the Career Builder.
This upgraded version of GTAV on PC also features all of our recent player experience improvements for GTA Online, including kernel-based anti-cheat protections and proactive voice chat moderation to help keep GTA Online fun for everyone.
Technical Enhancements
Depending on hardware support, GTAV players on PC who upgrade will be able to enjoy:

 • Ray tracing features only available on PC such as ambient occlusion and global illumination — plus ray traced shadows and reflections first debuted on consoles
 • Support for AMD FSR1 and FSR3, and NVIDIA DLSS 3
 • Faster loading times using SSD and DirectStorage on supported devices and configurations
 • Enhanced support for higher resolutions, higher aspect ratios, and higher framerates
 • DualSense® controller support, with adaptive triggers
 • Enhanced audio with support for Dolby Atmos and improved fidelity of speech, cinematics, and music

Cool I guess, and surprisingly free. I look forward to seeing the comparison videos as to what's changed.

Deffo. Does make you wonder if they will release on PC as well this year. However, I would have thought that the Double Dip market was huge for them as a money spinner and the game must have cost an absurd amount of money at this juncture, so they will want it to be as profitable as possible.

Maybe I'll finally try to give this a proper playthrough. I just hated all of the characters and could not get into it every time I've tried in the past.

I don't think they're meant to be liked Zef. From a technical perspective, it's an impressive title. However, outside of the open-world the mission design is on rails and any deviation beyond a couple of choices regarding the heist set-ups just isn't that fun.

I'm quite curious to see whether with VI they changed up that approach or whether it's just going to be more of the same, but with a much-improved game engine. A lot of people are already talking about it as GoTY, despite the fact that beyond the trailer and the early build leaks we don't know jack as to how it plays, and how it is tonally, esp given the departure of a lot of the Key figures behind the previous titles.

Rockstar hates PC gamers. The RT features have been in the current gen versions forever now but they never bothered to implement it on PC.

Better late than never I guess.

Have tried it out for a bit, the massive performance hit of ray tracing barely makes the graphical improvement worth it, it still looks like vanilla GTA5 most of the time. Never was going to expect miracles, but they definitely could have done more.

The main noticeable improvement is the anti aliasing and thus image quality, that one is substantial. I used to run GTA5 at 6k resolution and that would still have an eye gouging amount of shimmering/pixel crawling. 4k with RT and DLSS balanced is getting the same frame rates as the legacy version at 6k, but it is much cleaner to look at.

What card, and how much a hit did you take?

I'd be willing to go through the campaign again for it if it's reasonable.

That was on my old rig with a RTX 3070, haven't tried it on my newer one yet.

It almost chops the frame rate in half for the 3070. If I'm in an area getting 90-100 fps without RT, it's drops to 50-55fps when I switch RT on and to max settings.

The new GI looking good.

I'm going to disagree and say this is another Rockstar minimal effort. When there is ray tracing happening, the quality of it is ass, it's either very low resolution or very grainy.

After more than a decade of endlessly milking this cash cow, delaying the PC port and it's updates, they could have at least done more than a half a job and applied RT properly. It just isn't applied at all to so many areas, or most objects, props or light sources. Max settings below:
