Games that look disappointing as fuck? I'm listing Dragon Age Veilguard here and I hate that I have to say it for one of my favorite franchises in all gaming.

Looking forward to in 2024:
Dragon Quest Trilogy HD-2D Remake
Visions of Mana
Fantiasan NEO Dimension
Fantasy Life I: The Girl Who Steals Time
Metaphor
Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven
SMT V/Vengeance
Grim Dawn: Fangs of Askerten
Age of Mythology Retold
Ys X: Nordics
Diablo IV: Vessel of Hatred
Earth Defense Force 6
Kingdom Come Deliverance II

Maybe:
The Legend of Zelda: Echos of Wisdom - Need to see more and better stuff before I get hyped.
Frostpunk 2
Avowed

Would be my most outright anticipated games but little to no word on them in years:
Dragon Quest XII: Flames of Fate

And to a much lesser but still interested extent-
Titan Quest II

Would need very high reception from Dpad for me to even consider it:
Star Wars: Outlaws
Assassins Creed: Shadows

Looks like absolute fucking garbage:
Dragon Age: The Veilguard

Early Access looks promising but needs to show better:
Manor Lords
Greedfall II: The Dying World
Hades II
Furthest Frontier

Early Access looks good but dailies and time mechanics make me very weary of this becoming a Wolcen Lords of Mayham situation where an amazing looking early access game ends up a shell of its potental.
No Rest for the Wicked

2025 is starting to shape up:
Expedition 33
Fable (Yes I am surprised but I actually want to give it a try.)
Civilization VII
Path of Exile 2
Monster Hunter: Wilds
Metroid Prime 4: Beyond
Grand Theft Auto VI possibly (never got into the series, prefer Red Dead Redemption but this does look absolutely incredible.)
Likely Anno 117 since no release date.
Ditto Phantom Blade 0.

Not really looking forward to anything at the moment.

I started playing Sons of the Forest now that it looks like it's out of early access. Having a great time with this one.

Before SotF I was playing Manor Lords, and that one does need more time. It's in early access, though, and already it's a very solid game that's just missing features.

I'm likely to pick up Seleco.

There's nothing that's been announced that I'm really looking forward to, though. I've got my eye on Cities 2 and Starfield as they continue to receive updates -- these two games can only get better, right?

I heard Cities 2 was an absolute disaster? They had 1 to build on, but they still completely fucked 2 up?

I've only played 2 to a very limited extent. It looks like a great foundation to build on. The thing about Cities is that there was virtually no chance that Cities 2 was going to release and be better than its predecessor. There's simply way too much content in the first, and there was no monetary benefit to attempting to release everything from Cities 1 in a $60 or even $70 package in Cities 2. This is essentially Sims 3 -> Sims 4 again. From what I can see re: Cities 2 that is really nice is that they've totally reworked the the game clock to allow for seasons, and in doing this the game engine is all new. It's just going to take time and effort for them to rebuild the good will they had with Cities 1.

I fully believe they can do it, and I hope that the developers and publisher are willing to stay on board with this and play the long game, because I've dropped a couple of messages to them in social media reminding them that many of us (Cities fans) bought that game several times. I own Cities 1 for PS4, PC, and Switch. I'm prepared to buy Cities 2 3-4 times if they will simply stick with it! These games are wonderfully deep and worth the $60 + DLC's.

Nothing really. Fuckers don't announce what I want

This, seriously, except change "don't announce" to "don't design."

Plenty of great IPs with a lot of potential have been announced, none of them are improving or changing things up enough to interest me. Just the same old, tired systems/mechanics/engines covered with fresh coats of paint.

CoD Black Ops 6 did more to win me over than anything else in recent years with this video segment:

I want to see more studios focusing their energy on content like that. People that look at high sales numbers tend to say "If it ain't broke don't fix it." The wheel ain't broke either, it was designed thousands of years ago, but how many of you want these bad boys on your planes, trains and automobiles:

Because that's exactly how I see modern gaming, eye-catching graphics rolling on outdated wheels. They ain't broke, but they could sure use an update or two.

I'm interested in all of these and hope they all end up being great. Some of them I KNOW will be great, like Astro Bot. There's probably some games I'm forgetting about, but these are all the ones that came to mind.

Astro Bot - Rescue Mission is honestly one of my favorite games of all time.
Lollipop Chainsaw RePop - It may end up being terrible, but as a fan of the original I'm trying to be optimistic
Ninja Five-O - I was reading a post by Schrödinger's Cat about Ninja Five-O getting a new release. I'm very excited about that.
Metal Slug Tactics - I like the Metal Slug series but generally find the games to be a bit too hard, this looks like something more my speed
Mario & Luigi: Brotherhood - I like Mario RPGs, though I never seem to finish them for some reason
The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom - I generally am more interested in Zelda games that are in 2d for the old school, simplicity of the gameplay.
Beyond Good and Evil - I love this game and am happy to see it getting a new release.
Luigi's Mansion 2 - I find these games really interesting. A little Mario, a little survival horror, and a little Ghostbusters. Luigi's my favorite Mario character too.
Volgarr the Viking II - First game was brutally hard but awesome. It got easier the more you played it as you memorized levels and discovered new strategies
Nikoderiko: The Magical World - Mascot platformer with music by David Wise? Sign me up
Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Rita's Rewind - Love old school beat 'em ups and fondly remember this era of Power Rangers
Shadow of the Ninja - Reborn - I love side scrollers and I love ninjas.
Dynasty Warriors: Origins - I like musou games and hope that this is good
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Splintered Fate - I love many of the old school TMNT games
Sky Oceans: Wings for Hire - Skies of Arcadia vibes
Squirrel with a Gun - This could end up being a terrible game, but I love the stupid concept.

Mario & Luigi: Brothership
Slitterhead
Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake
Metal Slug Tactics

2025:
Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake
Grand Theft Auto VI

2026:
Dragon Quest XII: The Flames of Fate (40th anniversary)

And to a much lesser but still interested extent-
Titan Quest II

I will add more to the thread when I'm able to gather my thoughts but I too am looking forward to TQ2.

I'm new to TQ, I bought it the other month because I heard good things about it's overall legacy and I wanted to check out the DLC that Pieces Interactive did for it (Alone in the Dark devs, RIP).

TQ is a fun game, nowhere near being able to play the DLC but the main game is fun, dumped some serious hours into it and still have a ways to go. I'll definitely get the sequel when it releases. THQ Nordic is probably my favorite publisher right now and I'm at the point where I'm willing to buy their action/adventure games blindly. I'm even interested in South Park: Snow Day, lol.

I'll also add the Gothic remake, never played the OG but I'm excited to see what it'll be like. Should be out this year.

I joked with my buddy that he willed that game into existence because he 1CC'd The Punisher the other week. 🔥🔥 We've had so many conversations hoping that game would make it to consoles.

He's been on a roll. The Punisher, then Final Fight with Hagar, now he's working on Aliens vs Predator but that game has some nasty negative edge (input window is too long) that keeps messing his runs up. He's 1CCd other games but never focused so hard on it like he is now. Dude is really good at games.
