My take on this based on timing: Sony wanted to buy Square Enix, Square Enix named a price, Sony thought it was too high and felt they didnt actually need to buy them, Square decides to start adding fuel to the fire by day and date releasing future games on other system to get Sony back to the table at full price.

FF11 was on the 360.

It's likely because Squeenix is bleeding money and needs the income stream. That's why they brought over an MMO first instead one of the other dozen current gen games they've released on PS and Nintendo. Wouldn't be surprised to see an bunch of old Squeenix games land on Game Pass

The bleeding money thing is exactly why I think they WANT to be bought. There have already been rumors of it, but Sony would have alllll the leverage in such negotiations.

Well I'm no businessman but it seems like the desirable part is the pool of IPs which can be had during a fire sale. The expensive part is the current list of dev teams and "talent" (lol) so might as well let them keep bleeding

They won't sell or be allowed to be sold to a non-Japanese company, so that'll keep China and US hands off their IP's.
