Development on Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is "progressing smoothly and according to plan," according to producer Yoshinori Kitase in a new developer comment posted on the game's official Twitter account.

"Development is progressing smoothly and according to plan," Kitase said. "We are currently working on nailing down a release date for the game."

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is due out for PlayStation 5 in winter 2023.

I would love it if Square Enix gave us the same quick update for Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake. Though I guess because Final Fantasy VII Rebirth already has a winter 2023 release window, they would communicate to fans the status of its development sooner.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth will feature a "wide and multifaceted world" explorable with "a high degree of freedom," according to director Naoki Hamaguchi in a new developer comment posted on the game's official Twitter account.

"Players will be able to journey across the wide and multifaceted world with a high degree of freedom, experiencing a myriad of different stories along the way," Hamaguchi said in response to a question asking how players will journey through the world outside of Midgar.

Eh, I thought it was pretty great, but I went in with really low expectations.

I thought it was great, and FF7 is my favorite game of all time. I went in with high expectations and it blew them out of the water, especially when I recalibrated myself to look at this as a sequel instead of an exact remake. It actually made me like it even more, as it makes the original game still 100% relevant (and I still continue to replay the original once a year, its perfect on the vita).

I think too many people wanted a 1:1 remake. I'm very glad that didn't happen as the new experiance keeps its interesting, and makes rebirth even more exciting to wait for given we don't know where its going to go.
