TL;DW - Avoid Intel CPUs for the time being. If you own an Intel 13th or 14th gen CPU, Intel is now stating that they do not know if CPUs that might have already been degraded will be fixed by the upcoming microcode update, and even 65w parts are potentially impacted. They have also admitted to an oxidation issue with an unknown number of CPUs, though they are frustratingly not sharing anything more than this.

Damn. I've got a 13900K. Haven't noticed any performance degradation after a little over a year of use. Hopefully I'm good for a while.

Good news for future Intel buyers, now Intel will have to be exceptionally careful if they want to maintain dominance in the market. My current CPU is 9th gen so I'm fine and I plan to get a new PC this year or early next one.

The blow to their reputation is the least of their problems. Wait until the government gives them the ultimatum that they unfuck this situation, or that the government will unfuck it for them.

Intel has extremely strong lobbyist and tons and tons of major government contracts. Expect some kitten mittens to be used on them by the gov.

Intel Corp. plans to eliminate thousands of jobs to reduce costs and fund an ambitious effort to rebound from an earnings slump and market share losses.

The workforce reduction may be announced as early as this week, according to people familiar with the company's plans, who asked not to be identified because the information isn't public. Intel, which is scheduled to report second-quarter earnings Thursday, has about 110,000 employees, excluding workers at units that are being spun out.

Chief Executive Officer Pat Gelsinger is spending heavily on research and development aimed at improving Intel's technology and helping it return to prominence in the semiconductor industry. The company's once-dominant position eroded under Gelsinger's predecessors as rivals, such as Advanced Micro Devices Inc., have caught up and taken market share. An Intel spokesperson declined to comment.

Intel not having a good year

You have to update your BIOS in the motherboard settings.

Be aware that it will only fix the voltage problem.

The separate oxidisation problem cannot be updated away and is simply a ticking time bomb, that will either go off eventually or it won't.

Intel not having a good year

I wonder if the geniuses who say things like "Again, workers getting sacrificed at the altar of the shareholder profits" will ever realize the reason those 10000 jobs were created in the first place was because of the prospect of shareholder profits?

These delusional people want the benefits of a market economy while decrying the foundation of a market economy. It's all good when standards of living go up, wages go up, employment goes up , all because investors pour in their cash. God forbid you then try to please Evil Selfish Investors. After all, investors risked their dough because of your lovely blue eyes.

Why don't you try to run a chip foundry from your garage and tell me how that worked out. I want to hera all about the miracle jobs you created and how you paid them royally and how you didn't even need investors money.

These people are incapable of solving 2 + 2. Too much of a ask. They are socialists. Not that they would ever admit it. They will bitch and moan about woke , incapable of acknowledging they have so much, too much, in common with them.

This is what happens when there's no competition due to AMD being so much behind that the majority of gamers won't leave Intel anyway

AMD is actually doing fine in the CPU market. GPU yes that is true nothing they can do can beat Nvudia

AMD is doing great onthe CPU side. I'd take them over intel right now in a no-expense rig, especially the 3d cache chips

Part of the reason this disaster is occurring is because Intel has such strong competition from AMD.

Ever since Ryzen AMD have been rapidly expanding their market share and now are overwhelmingly favoured by the enthusiast market. Intel really only maintain a lead due to the established business contracts meaning most office and prebuilt computers use them, but that is also beginning to crumble in recent years (this is also part of the reason Nvidia still has such a stranglehold over the GPU market incidentally, despite disappointing and overpriced releases ever since the 20 series cards).

The overvolting issue we're currently seeing is because it was the only way Intel could make their chips beat Ryzen ones. They're cooking themselves just to gain a minor advantage over Team Red, and even then they're not doing so across the board.

So too does the oxidisation issue seem to be due to their flooding the market with chips to keep costs low and supply their business partners with more than enough stock to try to keep AMD out of their value range. They cut corners and sub par goods are the result.

Basically all of this is because Intel are being out competed by AMD these days. It is only a matter of time before Ryzen becomes the market leader in sales as it has been in performance and quality, and this whole disaster will only accelerate that.

I don't see it like that at all. AMD is selling a lot of CPUs and has held an edge over Intel across multiple segments of the market. I just don't know where your opinion is coming from. Ryzen CPUs are very well known and selling well.

I think he either got things mixed up with their GPU side or he hasn't followed the industry since mid 2010s lol
