Thinking out loud, I feel like the star and the coffee could go, from the current system.
I feel likeand
cover what the star is trying to do well, and the coffee is just inexplicable. I actually get irritated when people give me coffee, because I don't know what it means, lol.
Bacon and theare a wonderful addition though. Bacon because it's awesome, and why wouldn't we want a bacon react? The beers are basically a version of the old strength react, and I think, kind of awesome.
Surprised Pikachu for the shocked reaction.
D-pad symbol instead of thumbs up.
The Garfield and Odie react on discord for love/friendship/stregth/sympathy.
Can we get animated ones? The praise the sun animation I did for discord reacts?
A "tesseract"/cosmic cube. Cos why not!!
A trashcan with a Pac-man head.
We should definitely have some negative reactions.
Some might think they may be used for bullying, or may make people feel bad if they get negative reactions, but not if they are the right ones.
For exampleor
could be used for bullying, but something like
or
or
, couldn't.
We have snowflakes already? If @Mista can tolerate endless bacon reactions, the rest of these fools can handle some triggerings.
Avatar bet?And I'll guarantee you the standard ones will be used more often
We should consider what are the most common emotions you would feel or want to convey when reading a post, and then think about what best emojis represent that emotion.
We obviously don't want to copy GAF, so that rules out the Strength and Praise the Sun ones.
And you want to pick emotes that can convey multiple emotions so that they are more likely to be used.
You also want to pick reactions that will discourage one or two word reply posts (Eg. "This." or "WTF?" or "/thread").
These are my suggestions:
- Self explanatory
- Self explanatory
- Can convey empathy, friendship, deep agreement or acknowledgment,
THIS TBH - Arguably the most used emoji in discord. Conveys full agreement, and empowers a post with support. Same as, but THIS TBH is better.
- Shows that a post makes you think. And it's different to GAF's brain react.
- Shows that a post is either shocking or triggering.
or
- Shows that a post displeases you strongly. Discourages short one or two word reply posts such as "Wtf?".
And finally I'd add one more to convey the "strength" or "My nigel" type react. Something like, but something better.
Also you want emoticons that are clear and make sense to everyone. Simplicity makes for the best user experience. So the D-pad icon instead of a thumbs up is a nice idea, but it's not very clear what it means.
Some of the current ones have this problem.
Coffee makes no sense and is unlikely to be used often.
Cheers is like a weaker "strength" react. It could be much better.
And Bacon is just plain stupid. It makes absolutely no sense as a reaction. Just because bacon is awesome isn't a good reason to have it.
Tits are also awesome, but they'd make a shit react.
All of the above.Avatar bet?
Forum ban bet??
Name change?

I have to be very careful what I say, as I don't want it to sound like I'm promising stuff or this is official policy.
I'm curious if we'd generally prefer more reacts in general. Our old forum home kept it to just a handful, but the time many of us have spent in modern chat, kind of proved a lot of react choices to be kind of delightful.
Already, you've got coffee weirdos advocating for that to be kept. I want to bacon and 100 everyone. Just about everyone wants a triggered react. Perhaps, if technically feasible, more would be better than less.
I'm not saying we necessarily do 50 reacts, which sounds... troublesome, but perhaps just a little more than a handful.
Aye, you're dead right. The big thing is they need to be readable obviously which necessitates line art rather than photo, but I would repeat my earlier issue if we have too many - past a certain point you need search which takes away the instant-ness of it and adds UI work which I think would need to be done custom.
Aye, you're dead right.
Honestly, I think what we have now works great, we just need something negative to put across disagreement, without wanting to start an argument.
What abstract, easy to recognise things are the opposite of beer and bacon?
With animations I'd say they have to work both as still and animated - ie they can be animated when selecting, but on the page at reat they need to be static [usually picking a suitable frame] or they'll quickly get annoying by drawing the eye away from content.Ideas for negative reacts: arms crossed, wagging finger (minimal animations possible?), head shake, palm on face
I just want some negative reacts.
Really miss the amount of reacts from discord.
