Thread: Embraced the 2nd amendment today
I am a weird one. Found a FN Five-Seven and was about to pull the trigger at 899 then realized it has 20 dollar shipping plus the FFL and background fees and I got so turned off by it I decided against it.

If it makes you feel better I had like a 4 day window where I could actually buy ammo online in the hellhole that is California and I ended up being unable to pull the trigger (harhar) because of shipping. So now I'm going to have to pay more and drive at least 30 minutes to buy ammo because Los Angeles has muscled out most gun stores.

Trust your gut. For what it's worth, I think the FN 57 is the ugliest variant out there. It just looks funky.
I got to hold the Rugsr, PSA, S&W, and FN MKIII all side by side. The FN looks and feels the best to me actually. Ruger looks slightly more Robocopy but I do not like the feel at all. PSA and S&W just feel way too thin in my way hand.

I know that feel. I drive to a store that's 1.5 hours away sometimes cause I prefer to pick something up in person than pay shipping.

I caved and bought the FN Five-Seven mk3 MRD. I got it for 940 after taxes, shipping, FFL transfer, background check, etc. It was too good of a deal to pass up. I am sorry I am a boujee bitch.

Learning for that stupid exam in two months. Over 450 questions to learn, over 80 will be asked during the exam. Including quiting whole paragraphs from law books.

It's insanity. It's a remote study leading up the the two day exam where you have to log in at least 25h of training the exam and answering questions online.

I have the Ruger 57, and it shoots great, shares mags with the carbine, and is priced much better than the FN. you should consider it.

Thats wild. And that only allows you to own a gun right?

Man I remember when I got my first Carry License in Florida 20 years ago. Was a 2 hour course AT a gun show. Was like an hour of info/lecture then you took a short test. Maybe 25 questions (MAYBE). Then if you passed the written test you had to go to the range and 'qualify'...which was something like loading the gun and getting 5 shots on target at 7yds with a pistol. No speed requirement. And BOOM I was legal to carry. Of course now its not even needed with Constitutional Carry in half the US. But an LTC is still good to have as it allows you to carry some places otherwise forbidden AND it means not waiting on background checks when transferring/buying a fire arm (which usually equated to cheaper transfer fees!).

That's only one part of it. You have to join a gun club and be active, meaning shooting there at least once a month. Then you of course need an extensive background check, a certified safe at home, and for each weapon purchase, you have to go through a whole process of documents and chores, then registering it in person at the local police station etc.

Oh and you can only purchase a gun after being in a gun club for one year, and to keep it you need to stay active or they revoke your ability to buy guns.

I spent a lot of money on this puppy.

This is my woods gun incase any bears decide to get froggy.

Took my Rock 5.7 to the range again. I have to say. WHEN 5.7 ammo does finally come down a bit more it will be one of my most shot round. Having 23 (centerfire) rounds with almost no recoil is a beautiful thing. About 400 rds through the Rock and have had zero issues.

Have you ever used targetsportsusa.com? Usually good prices and Ammo+ membership is worth it for even better deals.

Have not. I usually just get my ammo from PSA when I see something on sale. But now that you have suggested targetsportsusa I will have to check them out. Muchas gracias!

Anyone interested in cloning military rifles as close as you can get without requiring a tax stamp for full auto?

I am talking about buying/building rifles based on the AR-15 platform:

I have a Windham Weaponry AR-15 in carbine length, my first purchase for my gun safe and AR-15 years ago. I dig it. It is my go to civilian defense rifle along side my M4 Benelli.

The Windham and Springfiled are not using pencil barrels, something I am angling for as I want to get as close as I can.

Also there are other clones I am interested in doing like the USMC M27 IAR or a 14 inch barrel with pinned muzzle to get as close to a Ranger, SEAL, or Delta style carbine.

Just curious what anyone's opinions are if they have gone down this rabbit hole. I have been itching for a new rifle and have wanted a 20 inch AR-15 for quite a long time.

YUP! Have M4A1 (BCM) and M16A1 (PSA) clones. The M16A1 usually gets some looks at the range since most ARs are 14.5"-16" and have a million tactically add ons. Only thing I ever get asked with the M4A1 clone is why I am running such a long vertical foregrip (Its the old Knights Armament one!)

Also have a Mk 18 CQBR clone....but that is a registered SBR.

Having military weapon clones is fun!

I was debating on getting the Windham Weaponry, due to the triangle furniture and swapping out to a Faxon pencil barrel (I hear the OG furniture is hard to source and are skyrocketing in price). I would probably also change out the buffer spring for nicer mechanics during shooting and a LaRue trigger group for the very same. I know that deviates it from being an exact clone, but I don't mind hidden upgrades if it also makes the platform better than what Stoner had offered for contracts. I'm sure he would approve.

Internals can be what you want IMO. If you do not want to build one, FN use to have some fantastic M4/M16 clones called like the Collectors Series or some shit. Which is awesome as they were one of the main suppliers during the Iraq/Afgan wars. Of course, FN does charge a bit of a premium for them.

Edit: Looks like they still have that line: https://fnamerica.com/rifles/military-collector/
Damn I wish I had money to piss away on that M249!!!!

I wish I was in the states. Even airsoft guns are not allowed to be imported anymore, bought 3 new of them before inventory dries up.

Got the new job I was pursuing. Going to celebrate by buying my first ever ar15 next week.

What are you looking to get? As I am in the planning stages of my next AR-15 purchase, I am curious as to what brand you are going with, what configuration or if you are going to build one up from parts/assemblies.

There is a semi local store that assembles them. Really not sure what their parts are. My uncle ran into them at a gun show and got a great price from them, and basically every other man in the family bought one from them at that price and loved it. I'm by no means an AR expert but it felt really nice to shoot.

This is the company.

Edit: We have to have fins on our "assault weapons" in California because here the government can just keep infringing on our rights because they know it takes years to overturn.

I looked at the website. Are they a reseller for other manufactures or do they manufacture their own parts? I am curious what length barrel you are going to get, any gucci parts, what optics, any lights, so on and so forth.

For a first AR, you really can't beat the M&P Sport III. $600-ish and it comes with all extras you might want and it's backed by S&W. If you want to spend a little more, I'd recommend Bravo Company, they are absolutely badass and punch way, way above their weight.

For some reason Sport III aren't available in CA. Only Sport II. I was thinking about one of those instead of the grizzly one but I've never fired one.

It's new, so they may not have shipped them to CA yet, I don't see why it wouldn't be.

Sport 3 is still hard to find and north of 800 here before adding sights. Went with grizzly today. Now I have my 10 day waiting period because fuck this state. Excited to finally own a rifle and can't wait to take it to a range.

Finally got my AR-15. I'm not a rifle expert but I'm very happy with it. Only changes I might want to make would be to move the read iron sight up one or two so I have a cleaner access to the charging handle and change the strap to a two point.

Other then that I'm just waiting until the courts strike down the assault weapon bullshit here so I can get rid of that fucking fin.

Also anyone know if I would have do re-zero the iron sights or something if I move them up a spot or two? I've never had to zero a rifle and I don't trust my aim enough to do it.

Congrats, brother! Looks like an 18"? Nice barrel length for putting some shit out a ways if you want to. You will want to play around with a bit. You might need to move the optic forward depending on its eye relief. Play around and find a spot for the iron and the optic and yes you will have to zero the iron again. You'll also have to zero the optic. Sighting in an optic/iron is super easy though, tons of good vids on YouTube on it. In the old days, we used to co-witness our optics with the irons and in the event the optic died, you could just sight your irons staring through dead optic if that makes any sense. There's two different kinds of co-witness: 1/3 and Absolute. Looks like you got a good sling too — maybe a Magpul MS4?

Have fun with it!

LaRue Tactical has re-released their battle knife again. The only way to get one of these were in the used market place and they were PRICEY.

Ordered mine just now. Oh, and LaRue makes awesome products in Texas. I use their mounts on a couple of rifles.

Larue makes great shit, but they always sell out of it. Maybe they'll make another run. I still say LaRue has the best value aftermarket trigger out there — I have three of them and they compare favorably to Geisseles for half or even a third the money.

Their triggers are my go to as well. I am looking at their Stealth Barrels for a new build, currently.

Once a year (in the past anyway, not sure about now due to Bidenflation) they used to have an MBT sale for $79. Almost too good to pass up at that price.
