Thread: Earth Defense Force 6 announced; first trailer!! (no platforms confirmed, but looks PS4/X1 visually)

Bridge Burn Man

EDF!

EDF!

To save our mother Earth from any alien attack
From vicious giant insects who have once again come back
We'll unleash all our forces, we won't cut them any slack
The EDF deploys!

Our soldiers are prepared for any alien threats
The navy launches ships, the air force send their jets
And nothing can withstand our fixed bayonets
The EDF deploys!

Our forces have now dwindled and we pull back to regroup
The enemy has multiplied and formed a massive group
We better beat these bugs before we're all turned to soup
The EDF deploys!

If you watch further into the trailer, it appears to take place in a post-apocalyptic setting, or at least in a setting where major cities have been demolished by the aliens (and probably moreso by your own stray rockets). Definitely looks cool but I hope it doesn't only take place in demolished cities.

EDF always looks a gen behind for the most part. The last one I played was on the 360 and I loved it despite it being an embarrassing visual mess, so I'll probably check this out too.

Yeah the graphics have always been... serviceable.

I mean, if you stack EDF 4.1 (early PS4 release) against EDF5, Iron Rain, or this trailer for EDF6 you can see an obvious improvement in visuals, but like you said it's not like fans are playing these games for the glitzy graphics.

I like EDF a lot, especially in coop. But man, I started to get annoyed at the technical aspects of the game. Framerate was always shit, I guess PC master race is the only solution currently.

Was hoping for true next gen visuals. Bummer. Will still follow it and see if it'll be worth it upon release.

Oh yeah, it's definitely an improvement. Plus it's got giant frogzillas with bazooka lasers! I mean, that's reason alone right there.

I will say that out of all the games I played back during the achievement craze, EDF seemed such a natural fit for them. It was pretty hard to get all of them, but it drove us to keep playing and experimenting with different ways to play the game and that was cool. I'm kinda burnt out on achievements/trophies now, but in some cases, they work really well.

I'm relatively new to the series. 4.1 was my first proper EDF game. I'm not going to count the dabbling in the PSP and Vita ports.

EDF always felt like (early) Monster Hunter, or a Nippon Ichi strategy RPG, or Mount & Blade, or some other PS2-era game that was ambitious but didn't stretch outside of its own limits. I don't know if that makes sense or sounds like babbling. Anyway, there's a charm to the ambition + jankiness of a game that I don't think I'll ever tire of.

I literally can't see the difference between this and the EDF2-trailer that released earlier today for Switch, lol.

No announced platforms, but I will say this: It's not a PS5-game ;>

Absolutely, I think it's that it doesn't rely on flash to sell itself. It's a pretty honest series in what it is, and it's so decidedly Japanese that I can't help love it.

There have been many gameplay videos released already 7 months ago. Anyway all the info you want is on the wiki, it is a direct sequel to 5 so a few years after the war.

Also:

Oh we are the valiant infantry,
we are the Alpha team with passion and camaraderie...

There is also a voxel side-project in the works. I am a big fan of the EDF franchise so feel free to ask me anything.
