Electronic Arts has announced a long-term deal with Marvel Games to develop "at least three" new action adventure games for consoles and PC, each their own story set in the Marvel universe. The first title in this partnership is the September-announced Iron Man game developed by Motive.

"We have been long-time fans of Marvel and their impressive leadership, so this is a remarkable moment for our developers as well as our players and fans," said Electronic Arts COO Laura Miele in a press release. "We look forward to welcoming Marvel into the EA family of creators and know this collaboration will produce exceptional experiences for our players. We can't wait to see players' reactions when they suit up as Iron Man and do the extraordinary things this Super Hero is known for."

Marvel Games executive vice president Joy Ong added, "At Marvel, we strive to find best-in-class teams who can take our characters on heroic journeys in ways they haven't before and collaborating with Electronic Arts will help us achieve that. We pride ourselves on being enthusiastic, creative collaborators with developers so they have the freedom to create something deeply unique and truly remarkable. The team at Motive is getting started on that with their Iron Man video game and we can't wait for players to learn more in the far future."

The Iron Man game will feature an original story that, according to Electronic Arts, "taps into the rich history of the character, channeling the complexity, charisma, and creative genius of Tony Stark, and enabling players to feel what it's like to truly play as Iron Man." The development team is led by Olivier Proulx, whose past experience includes Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy. He is joined by industry veterans such as Ian Frazier, Maelenn Lumineau, and JF Poirier.

An Iron Man game made by the team remaking Dead Space? Huh. Could work. But I'd need to see gameplay before I can be convinced.

Also, give Respawn studios a Marvel game to develop. After Jedi Fallen Order and of course the upcoming Jedi Survivor, I'd like to see what they can do.

Ah, yes, because that Star Wars deal worked out so great with EA.

I hope that EA struck a sweeter deal with Marvel versus SE as regards the licensing fee because it seemed like the core reason why SE regard GoTG a failure was because Marvel charged them a non-negotiable arm and a leg for the licence, versus a percentage of the sales.

That's cool, but if they're announcing it now, does that mean we are 4 years away?

I don't care at all. Spider-Man is only good because his powers really fit really well on a video game and even then I think Insomniac will need to change up the formula with Spider-Man 2 since Miles Morals was a lot less impressive than the 2018 game.
