Techland takes the Internet’s burning questions about the upcoming survival, horror, action game, Dying Light 2 in their first episode of an “Ask Me Anything.” The eight-question revelations from Lead Game Designer Tymon Smektala include, most notably, that there will be no modern firearms that can be equipped in the game nor will there be drivable vehicles.

Lead Game Designer Tymon Smektala

It’s a World War, the civilization is destroyed. It’s gone so actually no one is able to create, like, professional firearms.

However, besides possessing bows and other ranged weapons, the closest thing to equipping a bullet-filled metal is through a handmade, craft-able shotgun. The shotgun can be equipped with the left hand, while also being able to equip a melee weapon on the right, making for unique combat combinations. The shotgun is not permanent and can be destroyed after multiple use.

Drivable vehicles will also be non-existent, solidifying the theme of a destroyed civilization, as travel and parkour will be the game’s main points of adventuring throughout a map that was mentioned to be twice as large.

Man, i’d say even 100 years from now there will be guns that work somehow. I call that bollocks. Especially when necessity is the mother of all inventions. I bet people will make cars move in such environment. Highly limited of course.

Cars actually need a lot of very complicated equipment, heavy, long winded manufacturing and interconnected supply chains to even maintain, let alone make new parts for.

Petrol alone would have gone off and become unusable within a year. Without massive refineries, and a fleet of vehicles to distribute it, there'd be no easy way to fuel vehicles, even before wear and tear had time to destroy delicate parts that need a global supply chain and expert assistance to replace.

Guns are indeed a bit more of a stretch though.

A well cared for gun from the first world War will still work today, and guns like the AK47 were designed to be easy to make and hard to break. Bullets would be harder to get a hold of, but still relatively easy to assemble, as long as you have the tools and materials, even if they would be very basic.

I mean, when you have to run away from motherfucking zombies, we’ll find a way.

Even if we have to make 10 donkeys pull a carriage, we’ll find a way.
